Probably a combination of both. We have a solution for you if you are a customer and have a static IP, send an email to our support email with your IP and customer number asking for access.

How nice of you :) What is the email?

Why don't u guys at least make some kind of rerouted page if ip's get blocked?

The easiest way to solve these issues is to get everyone you know to patch their Windows computers, install a firewall and virus checker and not participate in the attacks themselves.

Exactly. And if you have a dedicated server, do keep it secure. A lot of hackers put trojans on unsecured dedicated servers to use them as zombies for DDOS attacks.

Man, someone needs to cut china off from the internet... who let them on anyhow?

So how could we send them our customer # if we don't know what it is? Oh yeah, I could look it up on vB.com... ummm.... *sigh*

If you send an email to support@vbulletin.com from the email address on your license, then we will know you're a licensed customer.

[rant] [sarcasm]So if I single handedly patch all the windows machines on the Internet, of all the people I know, can I then get access back to the support site for the software I paid for ? [/rant]

Oh wait - Thats exactly the kind of thing I do in my consulting business - Just think how many million customers more to patch/fix before I have done my part to solve VB's problems ? If I can get them all to pay the 2 hour minimum I'll be able to hire someone to +++++ at VB and fix the forum issues...[/sarcasm]

Seriously - I know you guys are frustrated but come on....

Doug

After my rant I have to be fair
2 Thumbs up to Steve M for responding withing 5 min or less to the support email ....

Maybe we should have 2 levels of the internet - The AOL level for the newbies and the hackers and a security clearanced "adult table " level for folks who know what they are doing ( or at least try ) - Then some way to ban the hackers to the AOL level "kids table "...

I know it would never work cause the troublemakers would only get their jollies off playing at the "adult table"
Oh well ... Time for a beer and a shot of corazon to celebrate the pending new year
Doug

If an IP is blocked it isn't even seeing the server, it is being deflected by a router upstream on a larger pipe into the ether. No server, no way to display a re-routed page.

If we rerouted the traffic from the machines doing the DDOS attack to another server to show you this page, then you wouldn't see it anyway since that pipe would be overwhelmed and the server wouldn't exist as far as your computer was concerned.

Hi Luke and Happy New Year!

I can't get on AT ALL. First, it takes forever for the version number at my host to load. Sometimes it times out with errors.

Then I have a DynamicIP through Cablevision and Optimum Online.
When I try to access vB.com, it ALWAYS crashes my browser.

I guess I need to send in a support ticket.

This just doesn't seem fair that those of us that are sponsored or pay directly CAN'T get on line!
