Yes. Right now I'm making all my component system code and content manager code less dependent on vbulletin by wrapping the components it uses is accessor classes.

umm, nope.

No for now but maybe one year later or less.. VB3 look awful... also I finally understand how hack work so I m going to stick with VB2 for while =P

JulianD 10-31-2002 05:34 PM

Too early to tell... But probably, yes (after hacking the board to fit my needs).

vB3 looks awful because the dev team is using a temporary template with ALL options enabled based on vB2. The final style should be a lot better. I agree at the moment it's ugly.

Yeah, showthread is slow for some reason - esp. if you use the hybrid mode. It's been mentioned to the dev team.

Erwin, thanks for "inside" information =D Actually there are more than looks.. I sometimes stop by at Bear Spot to get "unbiased" debates about any boards. It is good forum and rarely lock by mods/admin that which Sitepointforums.com usually do that whenever board vs board debates. Anyway I read thur many debates about VB3 and more. It is not excatly good move from Jelsoft lately about VB3..

I ll always be VB fan no matter what but seem that VB3 is going down? Erwin, I can see that you re logic guy so I wonder can you share your perspectives and thoughts about VB3 and Jelsoft's developments?

For example, go to vB3 Developement and see what Matt (IBF's developer) said... VB and VB's world is still new to me.. thanks in advance

Interesting thread there Goldknight, but IMO it just shows how little they know about vB.

To quote a long standing vB user (who shall remain nameless); vB3 looks like a bag of hacks barfed up on a vB2. Of course, this is probably because on of the lead developers was an active hack writer.
Anyone who knows anything about vB3 knows that what you see there isn't what it will look like when released.

i partly agree with matt's point of view. as anticipated as vb3 is, i this is a bit too over crowded with un-needed features, which most users will never use.

I believe they've lost significant market share which is beginning to show in what I would call desperation by the inclusion of such crammed features such as threaded view. Those types of things should always remain as hacks and they are not following the golden rule of development which is: it must benefit the masses. As a result, it cheapens the look and feel imo.
Again, people who know anything about vB3 will know that many options can be switch on/off via the Admin CP, removing all the features us Admins feel arn't needed on out boards. Features such as threaded view have lost Jelsoft many customers because that is somrthing that will benifit the masses.

I wouldn't say I have a particularly biased opinion towards vB3 as I know I won't be using it on my own board and will stick with vB3, but I think I've pointed out that these people don't have a clue about vB3.

Thanks NTLDR for share your experiences. Appreciated it alots. As I said, VB is still new to me. VB's politics and history is not excatly clear to me yet, it ll take a while to know where VB stand and where will it go from there. Thanks

I all I have to say is that I am upgrading my forum to vb3 today or tomorrow.

I will tell you that we aren't losing any market share and that sales are the same today as they were 6 months ago. vB3 will only continue to keep that pace as once you have it as an admin and can see what it really does, you will be happy.

NTLDR 11-01-2002 05:13 PM

That is another good point, untill we have seen the Admin side of vB3 I don't think we can can can honestly say one way or another as to wether or not we will be using it. The thing that puts me off is upgrading my style.

If freddie is upgrading his public board then they must be getting nearer to releasing a public beta then we can take a proper look :D
