Hell - I was just about to move a forum to a new domain. I saw the vbseo.com site was down and found this thread.

Presumably I won't be able to move the forum to a new domain, without vbseo giving a warning of being an unlicenced copy because the new domain is not in their records?

That would mean that vbseo has a link back system built in, so would that not give everyone errors?.

It lost a great deal of its relevance with the release of the much more SEO friendly vB version 4. I honestly don't know why v4 owners think they need VBSEO. They don't.

Proper use of keywords and thread titles is all you need. I get hit by google and other search engines like crazy and I am not having problems with SEO on my site at all.

If you have fresh content and manage to figure out how to get your forum's members involved in the discussions you don't need anything like vbseo.

Roger that, same here. In fact my pagerank is better than some competitors who HAVE VBSEO.

Just throwing this out there, but typically people who have never used it on a populated site tend to state comments just as yours but they would never know how much "more" traffic they would be getting.

I personally (from google analytics) saw an increase in organic traffic of 40% in the first month.

I see people talking about one or two options that vBSEO has but if you have it, then you know what I mean when I say "there are 30-40 options that can really help the SEO of your site"

If anyone is looking to get into SEO I suggest following WebmasterTools (Matt Cutts) on youtube, in the 500 videos he has you can see how many of the features vbseo provides is crucial to being optimized

Though.... This was with 3.8.7, now with 4.2 I do see it being needed less and less, but there are still some options that VB cannot provide that as an SEO I would not do without.

PageRank has nothing to do with vbseo

Young SEO's so cute

For those that do not know, whether you have vbseo or not or even content on your page, pagerank and vbseo have nothing to do with each other.

You'll not only get a warning, vBSEO just plain won't work at all if the new domain isn't in their records. I tried to use it on my site's test server (which isn't in their database) to try and test fixing of some of the PHP 5.5 issues that occur...no dice (though I was able to test and fix the lone PHP 5.4 issue that is present, since it triggers during the initialization process).

What If The URL in Vbseo's database Is Forwarded To The New Domain?

Yeah, it's a total pain - more because for some reason vbseo on the original domain will no longer work, and thinks it's on the new domain, even though I removed the content from there.

No idea why it's doing that - seems to have crashed - but no expectation of help from the vbseo team.

Am going to have to do an emergency upgrade of the forums to vb5, which I really wasn't planning to do until later.

I have a feeling that this comment suggested I was wrong, but now you realized I was right :)
