Changing something just for the sake of changing it is also pointless. Having a feedback forum does not mean every suggestion is going to get implemented. Its been considered, and rejected. Its sad that some cannot handle rejection very well.

Not really sure what this means - how are .rar files more (or less) secure than zip files ?

BTW, rar files have also been considered in the past, but it was decided that zips are the common compression method that everyone can handle - if people used rar they would have to provide a zip as well, which rather defeats the purpose.

Ive never seen it asked before than again ive never looked. I saw this thread and thought i would ask (as most of my files are Rar's)

I can handle rejection fine if it's based on logic. Give me a good reason not to do this-
A security issue (though this doesn't seem to be the case)
It would break something else (also not true)
It would make life harder for someone (again not true)
But if any of the above were true I would take it as a good reason and go about my day. Instead the only reason I'm given is 'because it's always been done that way' and that is NOT a reason at all.

Unless a new point is raised I'm done commenting on this, my position has been made known and I've given several reasons why it's a good idea and no one has given a good reason why it's a bad idea. Period.

As for .rar files I couldn't care less... zips are much more popular and do the same thing so I don't see a need but if you want to give the mod authors the choice, that's fine too- I'd never use it because there are lots of people who can unzip files (it's built into windows) who would need to have their hands held to unrar a file.
