I'd recommend it to designers or template coders... but not PHP programmers.

People are snooty about Dreamweaver because of wysiwyg editor. It just stupid though, its a brilliant program. Just because you can use it as an amature doesn't mean the pros can't use it too.

It has so many useful and time-saving features.

Yes, but it depends on what you are doing. If you are more of a programmer, doing work with php, python, .Net, etc it is a over priced piece of bloat-ware and there are all sorts of better options that are free.

If you are more of a designer then it is a good option as it lets you do things that you normally would have a much harder time doing without learning some scripting.

Programmers don't like it because it lets people get things done in a way that is generally looked at as "wrong" by programmers.

I like Winsyntax for quick dirty work.

Dreamweaver, not so much any more now that I use Firebug to inspect CSS. Yeah, Dreamweaver as of CS3 still did 'Layers' (I think that's what they called them) which looked great in design view but were totally wrong in code. Still, I updated my WebSuite to CS4 just to keep up. Now I use Fireworks a lot more than I did before, just because I paid for it and have it around.

I legally own DW8, but I didn't pay for it with my own money.. And I never ever ever use it. Ever.

Notepad++.. Why pay hundreds of dollars when you don't have to?

Has anyone tried NetBeans? It's one of Sun's open source applications, and runs on plenty of platforms.

I've personally been testing it out for a month now, and while it doesn't have many "out there" features, it is actually quite good.

I have used NetBeans, and I am ashamed you had to give a link. NetBeans is a well known program and it is good if you are doing any Java coding Enviroment project for the web. As for webpage designing, I have never used it as an web designer tool. I either use NotePad, or FrontPage 2003. :cool:

I've never used NetBeans. Not a big fan of Java myself so never saw a reason to use an application primarily developed as a Java IDE.

I use Notepad++, and I love it's features.
Again, I didn't know about FTP.. or the code hinting? :rolleyes:
It has syntax highlighting.. i've never seen it give me code hints though.
Must look into this!

There's a new version of Notepad++ (5.4.5) just in case nobody noticed :p They don't notify of updates.
