If you are going to bother doing something for the community, then bother to release the psds. Don't release the icons and then hope that it turns into a way of making money for you. You're creating a walled garden and that's not what these community sites are about.

Sigh, im getting sick of having to deal with this crap.

I do not release PSD's because of the copyright issues that suddenly appear when they are released. How else am i to prove a thing is my work without the original copy? If i were to release the PSD'd for my work, i have no way of proving it is my work.

Designers who release PSD's are fully aware of this fact and decide to do it anyway. They are well within their rights to, just as i am well within my rights to NOT RELEASE PSD'S according to the RULES OF THIS FORUM.

1. I am following the rules of this forum in regards to releases. I am well within my rights to withhold PSD's if i so choose, as long as i provide requests to the community.

2. By releasing button sets at all i am contributing to the community. I am also doing so for free, and am not asking for any money from anyone. I release button sets for fun as a hobby, FOR FREE. I earn enough money in my real job without having to resort to any supposed tactics on this forum. Even if you were to offer me money for the PSD, i would still refuse.

3. If you don't like it, i really, really don't care. If you have an issue, go and ask another designer to create a set of facebook look-alikes and make sure they release the PSD. Or better yet, get a copy of Gimp or Photoshop and learn yourself, then you can release as many PSD's as you like. Either way, I DON'T CARE.

4. As mentioned in the OP, if you require additional buttons for the set, all you need to do is ask. Many people have asked for additional buttons and have gotten their result within a number of days again, FOR FREE. All of those people are happy with the result.

Its a bit childish to think that you have any sort of copyright control over a button style that you copied from another site. Not only that, but the button is just a colored box with generic text on top of it, you have no ownership or rights to the content at all, its not significantly different than anything else out there and you can't claim any ownership.

All you're doing is slowing people down. What intellectual property do you have in the PSDs? The color of the layer or the size of the font? :rolleyes:

If you don't like it, don't install it.

Also, if you know anything about design, you would realise these buttons are not exact replicas of the facebook buttons, they are close copies created from the ground up by me.

If vBulletin.org does not have an issue with a button set released months ago and does not think it represents a copyright violation of facebook's intellectual property, then why do you have an issue with it?

Just because you might think that these buttons are simplistic in nature, does not mean that they were created in only a few minutes or that they are direct copies from the facebook website. It took many hours to get the right combination of font, color and size necessary to make them. Because i created these buttons i have the right to consider them my work, and according to the rules of this website, release them as i see fit.

If you don't like the way I release buttons, or anything else to do with my work, please feel free to create your own button sets, release then with no copyright and allow the many people that wish to download them to do so.

It's people like you that make designers hesitate when releasing FREE graphical items for the public. It's no wonder there are so few designers on this website when they have to deal with selfish people like you who consider their work to be a right of the public domain instead of a privilege.
