I think in the future, to avoid see such stupidity of mankind [a few less]

I would like to have been born in the mid 1950's, because then I would have been able to be a teenager in both the 1960 and 1970. That would have been really cool. To see some of the best Rock artists. Things were changing so quickly and anything seemed possible. Now, while anything does seem possible on the scientific frontier, much of the love, peace and togetherness seems somehow tainted with a certain amount of cynicism. The belief that love can change the world has worn pretty thin.
That's my take on it.

Have a brother? ;)

So glad about the thong issue. Somehow cowboy hats and thongs just doesn't do it for me. LOL

I am personally responsible for every action I take. I have only myself to blame or congratulate (as the case may be) on my lot in life. I also have less than $1000 credit card debt, no house payment, no car payment, pay all my bills on the 5th of the month, provide home cooked organic meals for my family except on Fridays, spend time with my kids doing silly stuff like playing Guitar Hero or watching reruns of Family Matters and so forth. When I need a job, no job is beneath me.

For your last two items, I don't wear a derby but I do wear a cowboy hat pretty religiously. I have never tried on a thong.

I am in the here and now. If you do not like the way your are or how you live, then change.
When your dead it's too late. " Don't dream it, be it"

I have touched 100's of thousands of lives so far in 1/3 of my life.
I plan to touch millions before it is over.

Also, chivalry is lame. I respect everyone, but feel that I am not indebted to women in anyway. Men and women are equal, get your own coat and hat.

I hate how people pretend the past is some how greater than the now.

Past:

Women, blacks, other minorities, etc could not vote.
Interracial marriage banned
No internet
Better health care
Higher standard of living
I could go on but you get the picture.

Read my first post, I did say without the racism. No doubt there are great things about the present , and thank god were moving past all the awfulness you mentioned but overall, humans are much more angry, cynical, greedy, and of course far more materialistic than years past. Most families don't sit down for dinner anymore or talk with one another because parents are two busy working, providing a two parent income, to uphold this gluttony. Gotta have two cars, big house, 300 cable channels, a boat and a pool ya know-no matter what. A gluttonous world we have become. I am a great producer of this gluttony myself.

Chivalry isn't about indebtedness in the least, it's about respect. Oh god I can see the post coming now with that one.:D In my personal experience, men who think as you are often very angy towards woman in general and often times angry at the world as well. Not to say that you are of course, but just my experience.

Getting back to the topic of this thread. It's always fun to reminisce about that past. There are days when I wish there was no internet, cell phones, cable and there are days when I'm glad I have it. Yet I do long for a time when things were built to last, the day lasted longer because we weren't so overly engrossed in instant communication, and when the intoxication of drama wasn't so prevailing. Perhaps a more simple time I suppose? Yet this simple time/mentality often bread some really stupid unrealistic ideals as well. If only I could pick and choose.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Gabby

Oh, come off of it. Do you have any proof of this? There are less wars, violent crime is decreasing, and science is starting to whittle away at people's belief in gods making them relish the moment more. Every generation says the next generation is becoming more amoral and evil and will be the downfall.

Another generalization. And why is it bad if people do not sit down for dinner?

I'm still not seeing what is wrong with liking stuff if you are not taking it from someone or using force. Its not gluttony, it is being productive.

I'm quite happy. I have a mother whom I like to talk to. Also, I have a girlfriend, I take her out to dinner at least once a week, open doors for her, and many other things. She doesn't expect me to though, and I don't do it out of some sense of respect for the female form, because women are weaker, I wish to get laid, or any other asinine stuff. I do it because I enjoy seeing her happy because I care about her. I also take my close friends out to lunch, give them rides in my car, etc. because I care about them. Expecting a guy to respect you because you were born with out a penis is ridiculous. I show people respect who deserve it, no one gets my respect instantly. No one is born any better than anyone else.

Bold.

That's good to hear truth.
