cold in NY

Here we go, preparing for a nice (not really), toasty 43?C day. :) Actually, I think the forecast has just been revised to 44?C. :(

It doesn't normally. According to reports it's the worst we've had for 18 years (which I believe to be true). in england, we normally get snow around feb-april time which lasts, at most, a day or two.

Still snowing heavily here. Forecast in the south east was for rain but it's still snowing heavily outside as I type this post.

I kid you not, in the summer we have temperatures up to 45? C... and it feels even hotter being a HUGE city, pavement everywhere... it feels hotter than in a desert.

And YES, winters can get very cold... and mostly because there's no snow anymore.
When it snows, it's just a few degrees below 0. But when it doesn't, it's A LOT below 0 :D

Weather changes here every few hours,last 12 hours were @2.5C and hard rain,4 miles away they had snow all night.

Now back to -2C and 2 inches of snow has fallen in the last hour or so.:confused::rolleyes:

Funny how much it has changed here in the UK, snow was a winter feature most years and 1963 was spectacular.People managed to get on with their lives and walked miles to work through the snow,shops opened,businesses ran and many schools were open in very short order once the roads were cleared.

Road/railway clearance was done manually as the modern machines simply did not exist and people looked after their neighbours and friends to make sure they had food and heating etc. there was no double glazing or insulation in homes and most had no central heating either.

Now into the 21st century and we get 2 -4 inches of snow and the entire country grinds to a halt,roads/buses/railways are incapable of running. Shops ,businesses and schools are shut and the newspapers/TV news are acting as if the end of the world has come.The amount of hype and exageration they spew out is truly amazing.

Couldn't agree with you more, (or stories I was told). It amazes me how alot of services are crying out and status is at a state of emergency. Take parcelforce (royalmail) for instance... It's because I expected 2 parcels on thursday and they have not delivered due to adverse weather conditions. Pathetic. Just my luck waiting over a month for the items to become in stock and then snow.

Sure, I can understand driving conditions can be dangerous but whatever happened to gritting the road, I was pondering today on the idea of under road heating. How good would that be to implement under the roads.

A question, Do parcelforce redeliver when they can't deliver due to adverse weather conditons? One of the items I am able to track but the other (because it fell a few pounds under the tracking policy I cannot track the item.

Anyhow, I agree. Not like the days where a little snow wouldn't hamper the british spirit of getting that delivery on time :D

It seems our region (northamptonshire) is one of the worst effected areas. It's still snowing heavily and looking out in the back garden it's approaching the 2ft mark.

Well while we're all chivering in the uk, remember summers only a few months away and whilst we are basking in glourious heatwaves, you'll be freezing ;)

Wayne Luke is correct it has been raining for the last 2 days here in the valley.
- It will make the grass ready for another fire or two later this summer.

Right now, it's 46 degrees Celsius, 45km/h NW winds, 13% humidity. Not comfortable at all. :p
