The question is, how did your coder decide to work around the lack of the hook (either he put the code before the last few validation steps using the hook in the visitor message script, he put it in another hook in one of the libraries with a couple of checks for new posts, or I missed something). If it works right that's what matters... it just would be a much simpler mod if there was a hook in both the ajax routine like there is for the non-ajax part.
