you get what you pay for ;)
sites don't "need" vbseo, but it's been shown that it helps in most cases

Like FRDS said, links are what will really help as far as SEO goes, but that's not even SEO.. it's marketing ;)

Not in the case of vBSEO. It does little or nothing that you can't get from four or five free mods.

It's highly overpriced, and I wonder about their marketing schemes, which also include a promise that if you buy a copy, and people click on the copyright link on your forum and order, you get a piece of the action if you sign up as an affiliate. That smacks of MLM to me.

Peace,
Gene

just a little fyi... you don't have to own vbseo to join their affiliate program ;)
Most script have an affiliate program,, even vBulletin itself has one ;)

This is very common

I know but adding it as an element of the copyright, and using that as one of the reasons to install the software shows me they are more interested in getting licenses than providing honest-to-goodness SEO optimization. Sure, making a profit is fine and dandy.

But that software is notoriously overpriced for a reason, and it's not value.

Peace,
Gene

And you are certainly entitled to your opinion :)

I have personal experience with vBSEO on two forums run by a colleague. I wanted to determine whether to install it on the three vBulletin forums that I own. I decided it wasn't worth the money, because most of the claimed benefits are fantasies rather than realities.

I actually removed vBSEO from my colleague's forums and substituted the four mods that replace and extend its real (rather than placebo) capabilities, and actually saw traffic increase.

This product is sold with the same snake oil promise that you see in the spam mail that touts great SEO enhancements for a price. They don't even respond to sales inquiries that contain basic, legitimate questions about multiple licenses and installation matters, and I tried. Maybe they answered some of your letters, but this was way before I voiced any public criticism of their stuff.

Peace,
Gene

again,, opinions ;)

vbseo support is notorious for being excellent
the only support that I've had that is better, is from my host

If you had a license, you can use their support ticket, which all my tickets haven't been answered within 24 hours, and usually within a few hours.

My questions were about buying a license in the first place, and about installation issues. Surely they want to sell their product.

No, I didn't use my colleague's license info for that, since I was considering buying my own. Surely a company that is interested in making a good impression to a potential customer and gaining what would have, in that case, been three licenses, should have been responsive. And yes, it was my standard email address, and there were no responses from them in the spam bin.

Peace,
Gene
