My users are also clamoring for some kind of notification for social groups...

100% correct. I cannot understand why there is no simple notification of any form. Even just one in the breadcrumb (with hypertext link) would suffice...

Looks like this will be a standard feature for VBulletin 3.8 which is available already but in Beta. I've kind of lost interest in this one. My members have decided that they don't like the social groups anyway and I have disabled them on my site.
