There's a reason we dug the channel...
As a Brit, I can honestly say that most of my country is fairly 'bleh' about Europe (or Yurp as I like to pronounce it). I consider it highly amusing that the name of the common currency sounds akin to someone vomiting. Will it make a difference to the person on the street? Apart from a few new measurements instead of what we're familiar with and, eventually, a new currency, not really. It will make a difference to big business, as they will be able to work the new system for their benefit, and the politicians will be like a child with a new toy (which is pretty much what it is), but for the ordinary person on the street? We won't feel any different, nor will we act different. Fortunately, we Brits still have opt-outs on many things (last I heard), so there will be more alleged drama over that. Rapscallion |
