Heres where you go on a tangiet.

You guys want it to look just like myspace, but myspace's layout is kinda crappy, but simple to duplicate. And there isn't anything special about it that you can't do with HTML. And if your users come along and change things, it won't look like myspace. The two things that would be hard are the buddy system, the blogs and the user comments.

I don't believe the messaging would need to be seprate from the PM system.

But you could take your memberinfo template and lay it out the same way.

Profile picture, a link to the gallery , link to add to buddy list, link to send message, then use profile fields to display all the other stuff, books, music, movies, hobbies, about, who'd you like to meet, status, everything I'm serious.

Then just start calling the additional profile fields in the template.

Danny is making his hack, which he claims is at 50%, but I don't see why you need a complete hack to replace your memberinfo when in realitity you simply want to SPICE it up.

An add-on for leaving comments in a profile, and an add-on for blogs would work wonders I think. If you already use something like vbgallery, which I do, then you have your resource for a members photo gallery, which you could make better than MYSPACE. Myspace allows you to upload 11 pictures. Big deal, how about letting your users upload more and create albums like on yahoo.

There really isn't anything amazing to my template mod. I will try my best to do a write up here, and maybe some of you cna play with it.

I didnt' get to detailed with the one that is on displayed becuase it's just a car site, not a singles site.

And some simple changes to your code would allow users to enter HTML into profile fields.

The big thing I am working on with that is the carrage return, you can't insert a return currently and start a new paragraph.

It seems to me a bunch of people want myspace without actually thinking about what it is they want.

Myspace isn't new, and its nothing different then a hundred other profile systems before it.

I liked the original idea you drew up :)

Blah! I'm just gonna release a do-it-yourself template hack to spice/jazz up your profile. And leave file edits to people who want headaches like Danny ;)

this i am fully aware of the thing is it does work, is easy for people to look through and doesnt require getting used to. you're the fourth person claiming it is really easy to do.

then why not help us out and do it?

the part of myspace i am actually interested in are the blog system, the comments system and the user customizable pages. that's what my site needs... i kind of already changed the way my buddy-system works and got a buddy-request working, similar to myspace. everything else on myspace gallery and so on, i've got working as well, all that i dont need just those 3 things. which seemingly everybody who thinks about it claims is so easy, but regular people like me cant get into and wouldn't even know where to start.

so why is nobody willing to make this happen?

supposedly using the vbadvanced system and changing that around to work as user profiles shouldnt be that hard, or even take that long... but nobody is willing or interested in doing it.

just danny and he's been... well taking his time with things. plus no screenshort or nothing, so people dont know whether its going to look like anything they are wishing for.

I am going to do a write up but don't except anything other than a template mod from me. I don't want to get into the answering of questions when it comes to hacks becuase I am not that experinced. I trust myself enough to write php for my use, but not enough to count on my ablitiy to help everyone else or possibly crash their site.

It's been done on vbadvanced, I pointed it out a few times, tampaforums.com but he won't budge on giving out his source code. I orginally thought the owner coded it himself, but in a few threads he has made references to the possiblity of 2 other parties helping him write it paid or unpaid, I don't know, I claim nothing.

Needless to say, Danny is where it is right now. But I still don't know why you think editing the memberinfo template is so hard?

It's called DREAMWEAVER. Or Notepad.

MR-2ZZ 11-12-2005 04:55 AM

or textedit for the Mac people :D

Wordplay 11-12-2005 11:59 AM

called dreamweaver... hehe... yeah but i'd call it lack of php knowledge... i'd need a book for what i want, and learning all that much without any real php knowledge... would just take too many months.

but hey thanks for looking into editing the template and making it look like myspace... i'll be sure to check that out. thanks alot!
