go to Forum Permissions
put your mouse over the forum name
it will say http://www.yoururl.com/.....................forumid=#

# = your forum ID

and want do you mean by 'group'?

pitt2424 10-07-2002 02:41 AM

the group id

bouncer18 10-07-2002 02:47 AM

Admin CP
------------

Go to --> User Groups --> Modify --> Put your mouse over the EDIT button. --> Right Click --> Copy Shortcut.

open note pad --> click paste button (ctrl - v)

you get something like.........

http://www.url.com/forum/admin/userg...&usergroupid=6

And the 6 signifies the usergroup

i am sure there is an easier way, but this way works for me

pitt2424 10-07-2002 02:50 AM

thanks i appreciate the help

TECK, thanks for the help, but that edit made it where I could not login at all. I had to login through my admin CP. My board has alot of hacks on it, maybe that has something to do with it, altho there does not seem to be a conflict. I am going to uninstall and start over and see if I missed anything, altho Idon't see how I could have (I have been over it so much.......LOL) I will let you know.

pitt2424 10-07-2002 03:11 AM

tech if i put a post in the news forum it doesn't show on the home page. all that shows is the post subject

bouncer18 10-07-2002 03:25 AM

then you missed a step

re-read it all and dble check your work

TECK 10-07-2002 03:30 AM

upgrade script completed, guys.
redownload the package and read the info included.

the file is vbhl34up.php. dont forget to upload the vbHL files to your server. they are different now.

the upgrade will set again to default all your options, dont forget to configure them again.

POST BELOW and REPLACE are 2 different things :)

bouncer18 10-07-2002 04:40 AM

the latest 3.4 Script is 100% functional

I have installed it and have 0 problems.

be sure you READ guys..!!!!!!

Smoothie 10-07-2002 04:48 AM

Teck- I don't see any instructions for the upgrade process in the new download. Can someone that has used the upgrade script post them here?

No custom home templates get overwritten in the upgrade, right?

hypedave 10-07-2002 04:54 AM

Hey Teck if we already installed 3.4 below you released the upgrade script, will it still be best for us you use the upgrade script??? Jus wondering, thanks

TECK 10-07-2002 04:57 AM

ty bouncer. the problem everyone have is the rush.
let me tell you this guys. you will never get it working if you dont read every single WORD listed in the readmefirst file.

honestly i'm getting tired to hear people complaining. every single time i did an install with someone, it worked perfectly. so if it's not working is because you think you know the step, so you dont read it carefully.
sometimes there are minor changes, like a dot or comma... and you think "ahh is ok, i did this". well here it is the result. your script is not working properly and you complain.

READ ALL CAREFULLY. double check every single step 3, 4, 10 times, if needed.
vbHome (lite) is not a hack. is a piece of software, like vBulletin. so if you think you simply do a hushhhh hushhhh through all of it to install it better look to someone else's "hack".
i had people dont even bother to see the diference between "BELOW ADD" and "REPLACE WITH". when i tell them to read the step, they say "ahhhhhhh BELOWWWW ADD..., not REPLACEEEEEE...". this is inadmissible.
and i want you to get used to ask proper questions, not like "it's not working, how do it fix it??". check my signature for guidelines on how to submit a question. from now on i'm not going to bother answering to people who dont even bother to read properly a readme file.

all the best,
TECK.

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:00 AM

no teck thank you...

i think i officially know how to fix the mistake i had...

Do NOT upgrade without using the update php file.

there is more to it then just that...

dont make the mistake i did.

If you have questions, feel free to ask me.. lets give teck a break.. ill try to help as much as i can since i have a pretty good understanding now.. again, thanks teck

cant wait to see whats next.

no. just download again the package upload index.php file only. it's only a dot in there changed but that dot is important.

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:04 AM

btw, what did you decide about Topic Avatars?

You gonna stick with this or you gonna attempt to modify vb even more?

last i knew you said it was to much work but knowing the way you code it left me wondering

TECK 10-07-2002 05:10 AM

i would love to see more people involved helping newcommers to vbHL.
i really want to finish my forums and go online with it. there are quite a few hackers now that have a good grip on vbHL and they could help others. in this way i can do other thinks and also develop new options for vbHL.
also, feel free to recommned new things to be added, what features you would love to see in the next version.

please get involved. people will love to receive your help. remember that once, i was helping you to get it right. visit often this thread and post here your experience. be a real vbHomer.

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:12 AM

oh ill be here..

:)

Smoothie 10-07-2002 05:16 AM

bouncer-

You upgraded, using the upgrade script, right? Can you post the instructions, please?

KingsFan 10-07-2002 05:20 AM

Teck,
I don't know if you saw my suggestion or not but it was to have an attached image display embedded in the text on the vbhl home page. Just like your journalist avatar instead of at the end with "user has attached the following image." Thanks again for your "hack"!

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:21 AM

Actually, i did it from scratch.

I messed up my database so we had to go back, delete them all.

had to delete all the home_XXXX template's
and killed the Vb Home in AdminCP

according to Teck, all you should have to do is run the update.
This will add the according items to the SQL DB and add templates that are new

Go ahead and run the upgrade script. It shouldnt hurt anything. Let us know how it goes

smoothie, the readmefirst file it is for upgrade also. it doesnt hurt if you double check. :)

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:23 AM

For an other working example of Tecks Hack, your welcome to view my site.

Forum itself has some additional hacks. View my profile if interested.

Also, i modd'ed the home templates a bit to make them look more like how my forum looks (background images rather then color)

Every option is on except the search.

Any questions, let me know

http://www.purposebuilt.org/index2.php
or
http://www.teckwizards.com/home.php (tecks official website)

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:34 AM

Question was asked how i added the logout button on the main VBHL page.

If your using the vbulletin.org standard buttons (small square shape buttons) you can uncomment the logout button under

Find (home_header *template*)

Code:

<!-- <a href="$bburl/member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=logout"><img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/top_logout.gif" alt="Logout" border="0"></a> -->
replace it with
Code:

<a href="$bburl/member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=logout"><img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/top_logout.gif" alt="Logout" border="0"></a>
or as i did it

find (home_welcomeuser *template*)
Code:

<normalfont>Hello, <b>$username</b>.<br></normalfont>
REPLACE IT WITH
Code:

<normalfont>Hello, <b>$username</b>.</normalfont> <smallfont><a href="$bburl/member.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=logout"><u>Log Out</u></a></smallfont>
Teck, if there is a problem w/ me posting this since this is a "private" hack let me know and will remove it

TECK 10-07-2002 05:36 AM

np, as long as is not actual php code that is part of the files. :)

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:37 AM

hehe yea i mentioned that

but i guess others are like me and dont like those linkbuttons on the main page

;)

GO TO BED lol

Ok, I read thru it about 10 times. Maybe I'm not seeing it. I upload all the files to the right directories, then I run the vbhl34up.php file in my browser, right? What about the 2 other files; vbhlindex.php, and vbhlinstall.php? I'm sorry, but no where do I see any info on the actual upgrade, besides the .php/template edits.

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:44 AM

upload index.php after you specify your chdir('blah')

upload the upgrade php file and vbhlindex (this recovers posts on the articlebit on main index.php page)
upload all remaining files and images

Edit according to the readme
then run the update

he is correct teck, there is no explanation in plain text for users wanting to upgrade. No reference to update file

TECK 10-07-2002 05:46 AM

only the upgrade is fine. no need to index the articles again.
for the rest follow bouncer's tips. :)

i didnt included a readme file for upgrade because the actual readmefirst file applies for upgrade also.

bouncer18 10-07-2002 05:47 AM

Smoothie.. i would recommend upgrading Vbulletin also... new version fixs alot of bugs and a few 'underground' exploits

but your site is nicely designed. GJ

Smoothie 10-07-2002 05:54 AM

Just upgraded to 2.2.7 1 week before they released 2.2.8 :(

Smoothie 10-07-2002 05:56 AM

cool, thanks for the info!! Could have been less space used here if there were just a slight mention for upgraders in the readme......

TECK 10-07-2002 06:06 AM

quote from the upgrade script, welcome page:
Quote:

Once the upgrade completed, you will need to reupload all vbHome (lite) files onto your server and set again your vbHome Options, since they are reset to default values.
Also, double-check the new steps you MUST perform, in readmefirst.htm file.
i was tired of writing code, so i thought a note on the first page of the upgrader will be enough. i will add the info in the readmefirst file tomorrow. thanks smoothie.

LeeCHeSSS 10-07-2002 06:20 AM

I'll help aspiring vbHomers as much as I can. I'm European, so I'm on at different times than TECK.

But right now I'm going to try and get my polls to work :)

Alas: I didn't get it to work and unless there is anything related to the poll that was changed in 3.4 I won't update to 3.4 (since I have no need for the other new features - I would turn 'm off anyway). Nonetheless, I'm extremely happy having left vbPortal.

Goldknight 10-07-2002 06:45 AM

Upgrade from 3.3 to 3.4 and work perfect

I usually solve many problems but this one, I reread and redo everything. Maybe I miss something so how can I get avatar appear on vbhl?? it beyond me. I did everything and nothing.
So how?

Thanks in advance
