my first install was the 1.3.0 beta 2 and then I upgraded to the 1.3.1 and it all looks the same.

As for usergroup permissions, I only have it set for the administrators right now to be able to add products. If it's something different you're asking then I'm not sure.

thanks for the help

Not usergroup settings, custom rating settings. What options did you add? Can you share a screenshot of one of the product rating pages?

Great. And how about a screenshot of your write a review page?

RPSmedia 07-23-2012 06:01 PM

OK I see now. I need to ask a better question then. How do I add more details for the person to enter when adding a new product to be reviewed.

My example is I'm going to put in a gun, I don't need SKU, etc. but I do need model, caliber, etc.

thanks for your patience

There's no built in support for that.

You could of course add a database field, query element and for field. [and I'm pretty sure all major gun brands use SKUs to identify products].

Anyone have any luck porting this modification to 3.8 or know a trusted developer that could do it?

Given the way this mod works it would be a pain, although certainly possible, to port it down to 3.8. For reasons that aren't worth diving too far into we've elected to move to 4.x only but would certainly support anyone's desire to build out a ported version.

Ted,
Nice mod first off. I wanted to ask where you have the photos is it possible to embed a video in place of that image? The reason I ask is I want to use this mod as a way to review our communities live stream broadcasts. Each person has their own embed code which I think would work well if it were embeded in the photo area. Let me know what you think and if this is possible.

Sure...

Basically you'd ignore the thumbnail image fields and rename the input for the main image to video url then change the detail template to call that as an embed link. The script checks that field for a valid url so you'd either have to change that to allow HTML or just use a youtube style link [or such].

Basically you're looking at template edits with the possibility of one or two small code changes depending on where videos are stored.

Looks like I lost the prefixes. I'm getting the same error as last time. I tried to add a product today for review and it's not letting me as a user.

I do not have an option to select a prefix anymore.

Did you upgrade your version or change any prefix settings?

imported_dfmafia 07-28-2012 12:29 AM

I updated it. Guess I'll revert to the one that was working.

upgraded to latest. i just disabled require prefix to post and it works. though cant add a prefix to reivew or product. can select a category but I'd have to make new categories to match the prefixes already established. categories are useless to me as I am unable to use them to sort through a mass of products or reviews. whereas I can with the clickable prefixes mod

also i create product and it posts to forumid 88 as an inactive product. when i activate it via the admincp it disappears...now is in forumid 45
create a review and it posts to forumid 45

but when I activate the product it posts to the review forumid 45 and disappears from the forumid 88 for product displays.

I'd like to keep the products seperate from the reviews or reviews as reply posts under the product thread. at this time this is not happening. a review is made and creates a new thread.

my current settings are:

Review Thread Forum ID
Required only if "Create Thread On Review" is enabled. Specify which forum [by id] product reviews should be posted too. You may want to disable posting new threads to this forum. forumid 88

and
New Product Forum ID
The forum where user-created product threads are placed by default. forumid 45

88 is my product reviews forum topic
45 is my product display forum topic

the attached image may shed some light on what is happening. the prefixed threads are threads made before the mod. this was our old system and I haven't removed it...yet. Once this works I will remove these posts.

Ted S 07-29-2012 03:51 AM

Reviews will always make a post reply, there's no setting or function to disable this... the thread is the option which you can turn on or off.

Approving a product lets you change the forum [the first option] so be sure the area you want it to be in is the same as what's selected.

As far as prefixes, nothing should have changed but we'll figure it out.

Take a look at the screenshots or try the beta and let us know if this cuts it.

Thanks Ted, going to give this a whirl.

am I able to stick the products to top of thread display? I'd like to keep the thread display clean with products on top and reviews below if I am unable to have products in one forum and reviews in another.

currently I am only able to select one forum. the review forum. I tried to enter more than one forumid but that didnt take. ie. 45,88

Product threads can be created in multiple forums you want. Simply enable the option per forum and either create a product their in your ACP or move a user submitted product there also via your ACP.

Review threads can go in any one forum you want. If you chose to enable them at all.

Review replies always go into the product thread and are not an option.

You can do whatever you want with the threads themselves, just be sure product threads stay in a forum that's product review enabled.

An example structure can be found in the main post of this mod showing 4 different product areas and one review discussion area.

If you had just looked at the whiteboard in the conference room it's all mapped out and explained with flawless logic. Except I suppose you can't quite see that :D

Glad it's working out. Still digging into prefixes however...

Looks like I got beat to the answer but please be sure to review the install guide if you have not done so already. I know it's long but there's a few critical settings required to actually make this work.

mickknutson 08-01-2012 01:20 PM

Review item categories?

Is it possible to create separate categories such as:

Product Reviews
|--> Parachute gear
|--> Rock climbing gear
|--> Surfing gear

This way I can have some sort of organization...?

Sounds like I need to clean up the introduction a bit... Let's try this:

PRF has two elements: products and reviews. Products are the master to which reviews are made, thus there needs to be a product before there can be a review.

You can structure product forums literally however you want with 3 even levels
- Gear 1
- Gear 2
- Gear 3

Or you could nest levels to be even more specific

- Gear 1
--- Gear 1 subset a
--- Gear 1 subset b
- Gear 2
- Gear 3
--- Gear 3 subset a

Reviews will always be appended to product threads as posts plus you can optionally elect to have them create a new thread to just one forum.

Does that make sense? Does it accomplish your goal?

p.s. I'm an avid climber, diver, etc so if that's a real example shoot me over your forum url, I'd love to check it out. :D

Savinelli, the worlds No.1 selling pipe Ferrari have given the Italians a reasonable edge in the world of motoring but that?€™s not all they strive at. Since 1876 Savinelli have kept the Italians at the pinnacle of the pipe manufacturing game! Putting the Italian legacy behind us for a minute if you where to look at the Savinelli range you could be forgiven for thinking they are a classic high end British made pipe. We have received a number of comments over the years from our high end pipe customers who believe the quality of the briar and the finish of Savinelli pipes exceed what is strongly regarded as the epitome of the pipe world and they don?€™t demand the same price tag (No names mentioned as we are British through and through) Savinelli Tortuga 207 The Savinelli Tortuga 207 is a classic straight Apple 6mm smoking pipe with a stunning black, Sandblast finish on the bowl and contrasting tortoise shell effect, tapered, mouthpiece. The Apple shape is arguably the most comfortable bowl shape for most palms and the briar wall stays thickest where it is needed the most, which helps keep the pipe cool along with the smoke. Ash cap As soon as we saw the Savinelli Tortuga we had to have them. We?€™ve seen pipes with lids before but nothing this high end. Each Tortuga comes with a hand fitted lid, in a stunning tortoise shell effect to match the mouthpiece. The base of the lid is made from a fire proof rubber so you can plug the pipe mid smoke and bury your pipe in your pocket so the boss doesn?€™t catch you smoking. Balsa wood filter Unique to Savinelli is their Balsa wood filter system. The triangular shape does not form a seal in the bore of the pipe so allows an un-restricted full flavoured draw but the extremely porous and highly absorbent nature of the Balsa wood is very effective at removing moisture and impurities form the smoke. And for those who prefer a totally unfiltered smoke Savinelli provide a plug to block the system.

That's very, very strange.

Are you having any issues with the character count minimums not working?

What are your WYWIWYG settings?

Try this version of upload/productforums.php

Haven't had a chance to test this but if the code is valid it should remove the special characters on any new / updated product.

No, I haven't issues with the minimum character count.

I set to "yes" the WYSIWYG editor.

With your productforums.php version works! No more duplicates :D

Thank you so much!

Kirk Fitzgerald 08-03-2012 06:33 AM

Is there anything I can do for the existing listings with a query perhaps Ted, there's 395 of them right now, updating each one at a time would take too long and I don't have so much free time.

Additionally Ted, is there any way for us to add more than just the one Affiliate shop link for each listing, our members of course are Worldwide and having shops just from one country is of no use to our members in Sweden or America or Africa etcetera. Is there also any way of adding additional affiliate shop links to existing Product listings?
