Where is the .css file of this product located, or how can I customize the layout of this product?

Worked well up to and including 4.1.3, but unfortunately breaks in 4.1.4b1.

The box initial is stuck on "Loading..." until you enter some text and the rest appears. Also the layout is slightly broken as seen in the screenshot...

upgrade to newest vbshout version, solved the issue for me.

Did you remember to revert any customised templates and to flush any cache systems like vB Optimise or vBSEO you may be using?

It's working fine for everybody else on the latest version, including me :)

My forum just shows {$show[vbshout_instance1]} and not the shoutbox. The shoutbox will display if I select for it to show in footer or header, but if I disable that and add the above code, nothing happens. It just shows the code above.

Asking the same question multiple times is not likely to get it answered quicker :)


To put vBShout in a custom location, do the following:


Step 1: AdminCP -> DBTech - vBShout-> Instance Management -> [Edit].

Step 2: Change the Auto-Display Shoutbox setting to Disabled.

Step 3: Write down the the Varname setting. For the default shoutbox, it's instance1. The rest of this guide will assume you replace instance1 with the actual Varname if it is different.

Step 4: Enter the Style Manager and add either {vb:raw show.vbshout_instance1} (vB4) or {$show[vbshout_instance1]} (vB3) to the templates you wish the shoutbox to appear in.


Follow these steps as described and you will have total control over the position of the Shoutbox.
Please note that some locations may not work as intended on vBulletin 3.8, and also note that it is not designed to go in the Forum Blocks side-bar (vBulletin 4).

That wording is defunct and has been removed from the latest version, the "Notifications" menu under the vBShout group is all you need.

Sounds like you may be coming from an earlier version and may have forgotten to follow the instructions in the upgrade instructions txt file. Could you please check that you followed all the steps there?

Is 5.4.4 available in Pro version as yet? I just looked on the website and it says the latest is 5.3.2 which is broken on vB 4.1.4. Thanks.

Yeah it is, the version info in the description is outdated. All Lite versions have a corresponding Pro versions :)

Sorry, I meant to put 5.4.4 PL2 Pro, rather than just 5.4.4. I ask as another admin I know bought and installed 5.4.4 Pro but it was broken on vB 4.1.4 and looked like my screen shot above with the icons going down vertically. I presume there is a PL2 Pro?

Sometimes jumping on the latest vB releases isn't a good thing, but the CKEditor is a welcome addition!

I cannot hear the sound notification when someone shouts.
I have received confirmation that others can hear it.

I have tried Un-installing and Re-installing Quicktime and clearing my browser cache. Obviously my speakers are turned up :P.

My browser is currently: Firefox 4.0.1 and my Forum Software is VB 4.1.3.

If you are having problems with sound, please follow this check-list:


1) Did you select a sound to be played in the Instance Manager?
AdminCP -> DBTech - vBShout -> Instance Management -> [Edit] -> Shout Sound / Invite Sound / PM Sound

2) Are sounds turned on?
AdminCP -> DBTech - vBShout -> Settings -> Enable Sounds

3) !!!Pro Only!!! Are sounds turned on in the UserCP?
UserCP -> Shoutbox -> Shoutbox Settings -> Shout Sounds / Invite Sounds / PM Sounds

4) Is the QuickTime browser plugin installed?
QuickTime Plugin- Please note that you need to restart your browser after installing the plugin.

5) Does it work in other browsers?
If you only have one browser on your computer (Internet Explorer) you should try out Firefox.

6) Is the following text present in the source of the page: <embed ?
Right click -> View Source -> Ctrl+F -> <embed
If this is not found, and all the above steps are completed, then you may have an out of date template. Please revert any customisations to dbtech_vbshout_shoutbox
Alternatively, try removing , and from that same template.


If none of the above steps fix it for you, then it's a browser issue that we are unfortunately unable to assist with.

EDIT: I figured it out! You have to change the stylevar postbit_background and make sure background repeat is off!

Unfortunately "all messed up" doesn't give me much to work with ;)

If you run any cache systems like vB Optimise or vBSEO please try flushing those, and ensure you don't have any customised vBShout templates.

well i got a customised vbullitin skin . and with messed up i mean messed up lol . naa i mean with that . that i cant type becase i dont see the the box to type in . and i dont see the messages . only thng i see is the users online on it and i can only see 50% off that to .

Try creating a new unmodified style and see if it looks right in that.
