I noticed that your default forum folder is named "foro" and I am uncertain if that matters, as the mod options (in the AdminCP) allow for specifying two settings related to the forum folder. Unfortunately the instructions for this mod are too cryptic to understand, so I'll defer to the author.

Please point which instructions are difficult - I will improve it to make it easier :)

Thanks, NLP-er! That fixed the error!

I think where I had difficulty was in understanding the .htaccess and "SEO" instructions, as I am unsure what SEO and vBSEO are. Also, I was unsure of whether I had to alter any of my language settings. Our forum is only in English, as we've had issues before with language corruption when testing various language packs installs, so apparently I was okay again without needing anything done.

Many thanks for another wonderful and useful product! I'll confer with my forum board owner on the purchase of the v.3 multi-language product.

can this cause server resources to spike?

Yes, of course it can -- and so can a hundred other things.....

(Sometimes I am at a loss of why people post these type of goofy questions, sorry!)

dont be at a lost pal. this question is only asked because apparently since install my processes and services, resources in the DB has spiked, and its only due to this mod (apparently) so if anyone else is possible noticing their forum slow down or their resources actually increase a lot due to this mod, than there is a problem.

i have a LOT of mods on the forums i run, and 2 for 2 so far that i installed just this 1 mod on i am seeing a increase in the server resources...and its not a little.

Have you set the default language within the translator mod's options? That could be one reason.

Translations are not taken form heaven, so some additional resources will be needed, but it is highly optimized and many forums are using this product - even really huge. See here:
http://www.vbenterprisetranslator.co...rformance.html

Also it is highly configurable - so you can easily start from several languages and see how it works. Remember - you will also get additional traffic using this mod, so your server have to be able to handle it. More languages supported = more additional traffic (mod does nothing for not translated pages, so it works only when you have visitor on translated page).

You know - things are obvious when you know answers - just like with Columbus egg ;)
I assume that it was question about how many additional resources will be needed :)

So if anyone has question just ask :) I will gladly answer as fast as I will find time. Of course - it is best to read the manual first ;) So mod description and first post (FAQ) have lot of answers :)

Configure the mod :)

Also vBET 3.x has additional performance improvements and will have even more when 3.3.0 will be released :)

Here are some performance improvement hints for 3.x - some can be applied also for vBET 2.x so read it if you are interested:

I hope this gets upgraded to vb 4.0 soon.. because my site's other translated links are getting lower in rank index on google and other search engines.. :(

TheWhite 01-04-2010 04:14 AM

Hi, I've noticed that vBET236 is causing high cpu loads on big forums (vBET234 didn't), what can be done to fix this?

1. Have set it to clear the cache on a 24hr basis
2. I have selected only 6 languages

It has gotten better but the problem is still there.

This is one of the best mods out there and I would hate to have to uninstall it. :(

PS. I have a dedicated heavy duty server so that's not the problem.

Yes - many people are asking and asking about vB4 version so I decided to made it quicker that I was planning. I will not give any date right now, but I rescheduled my tasks and it will be faster than I was planning before :)

I will compare codes of booth those versions and check does it is not coincidence. About your resources - please note that vBET is taking actions only for translated pages, so you have more CPU load, because you have additional traffic to translated pages :)

vBET 2.x will not be more optimized - bug fixing, support and version for vB4 - those are plans about vBET2.x

If you want much optimized version with additional features then look here:
http://www.vbenterprisetranslator.co...lator-3-x.html

I made comparison - there are only 2 little changes which shouldn't have any impact on performance:
1 - referrer header is added when Google is asked for translation
2 - additional check is made for translation tracking

So the reason of your CPU usage changes is not between vBET versions. More likely you are getting more and more traffic because more pages are indexed. You can check it in statistics which you are using. Also Please go here for performance hints - those are for vBET 3.x, but many can be applied to vBET 2.x:

2.3.7 RELEASED

NOTE:
If you are using SEO translatin links with vBSEO please change your first vBET rule to:
Code:

RewriteRule ^/?(af|sq|ar|be|bg|ca|zh-CN|hr|cs|da|nl|en|et|tl|fi|fr|gl|de|el|iw|hi|hu|is|id|ga|it|ja|ko|lv|lt|mk|ms|mt|no|fa|pl|pt|ro|ru|sr|sk|sl|es|sw|sv|zh-TW|th|tr|uk|vi|cy|yi)/$ vbenterprisetranslator_seo.php?vbet_lang=$1&redirected=/ [L,QSA]
(remember to add your forum directory if used - details in mod first post)

In this release some bugs where fixed and enhanced support for existing functionalities. And one little improvement for vBSEO users - now it is available to use vBSEO settings Define Homepage Aliases and Force Forum Root as Homepage? - that is why first rule mus be changed :)

Bugs fixed:
- weird redirections with vbet_lang
- double language in URL
- changing text direction for specific languages (right now when translate i.e. to Arabic then everything is on right side)

Added support for:
- usernames not translated in who is online
- supported URL replacements for canonical URL

Also it is little faster because URLs are changed in better way (easier regex). Yes I know I wrote that performance improvements will be made only in vBET 3.x (that is why it is much faster than 2.x), but it was made to support canonical URL changes, so little speeding up is a bonus here ;)

NLP-er 01-04-2010 09:13 PM

Also - because of many voices today I start working on vBET 2.4.0 - it will be for vB4 :)

Can Macedonian language be added for choosing, as main forum language ??

Thanks !

NLP-er 01-04-2010 11:09 PM

Hi - 2 or 32 people wrote that get some error emails about mysql server gone away.

So this is official vBulletin solution for that:
Set variable wait_timeout for mysql server to higher value.

Here you will find more about this:

vBET supports only pages generated by vB so if your portal pages are generated by vB then see in options how to place flags in custom place (edit template and add variable there). But... You can have issues with translation tracking for pages outside forum and you have to put there additional .htaccess file (if using SEO links).

vBET 3.x have full support for such cases - including translation tracking outside forum directory - you can see it on this forum:
http://www.vbenterprisetranslator.com/

NLP-er 01-06-2010 04:23 AM

vBET 2.4.0 for vB4 will be released soon.

Hello. I'm almost ready. Translations are working. Just need to find out way for custom flags place (in vB templates are working in different way) and check does option for not translate usernames is working in all supported places :)

Delilahs 01-06-2010 07:51 AM

NLP-er

I've just had a quick peep at the test site, and it's looking ok at the moment and as you say, the translations are working.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this released so I can use it on my forum. ;)

NLP-er 01-06-2010 02:40 PM

Another step closer for vBET 2.4 :)

I need to check/make working not translation of usernames. When this will be done, then vBET will be ready for vB4 :D

And I need some test environment with vBSEO 3.5. So if somebody wants to have earlier vBET for vB4+vBSEO3.5 then please set me such environment with some testing content (just 2-3 threads). Anyone?... :)

Yes - great thanks for your testing environment :) See previous post - just one step to be ready :)

Delilahs 01-06-2010 04:17 PM

Michael, vbseo 3.5 has got loads of bugs in it at the moment, so you may want to hold on, or I can put vbseo 3.5 on the site you are currently testing on now. ;)

Michael, check your pm's ;)

OK - I will made first release without testing with vBSEO (so those who are not using it will be able to use vBET 2.4.0) and in next next release I will made it compatible with vBSEO 3.5

For vBET 2.4.0 usernames are not translated - at least in those places which was supported before.

There is new issue - I have to work on archive pages and then it will be ready.

2.3.8 Released

Small bug fixed - now all supported languages can be chosen as forum default language. So you don not need to update from 2.3.7 if you already have it working :)

Also - in minutes will be released version for vB4.0 :D

NLP-er 01-07-2010 02:04 PM

vBET 2.4.0 RELEASED

Besides - ENJOY! :D
You will find it here:
