I have no idea. The only time I've seen something like this was when a server upgrade didn't complete properly and all my PHP pages were displaying as text files until I fixed it.

someone please help me with my emails not sending. It just keeps saying there are no emails to be sent.

Maybe there aren't any emails to be sent?

Version 1.09? 1.11? If the latter, uninstall and reinstall 1.09.

Setting in vBulletin options | Inactive Users Reminder emails?

JustAskJulie 03-30-2008 10:59 PM

Just wanted to say that this is one of the best mods EVER. It in addition to the Welcome Header mod, I've had a ton of people come back and start posting again.

RichTJ99 04-05-2008 03:48 AM

Hi,

I have Vbulletin 3.6.9 & I installed Email Reminder 1.1.1.

I am in the process of setting it up & had a few questions.

1. If I want to add a specific web link, do I just pop it into the message section or do I need to do something special to make it a clickable hyperlink (same as the $homeurl)?

2. Show footer link? - Does this add a link to the main part of the forum giving credit to djbaxter?

3. Add credit to emails sent? - Does this add a credit within the "we miss you" email?

4. I set (for testing) usergroup 3 (admin's), set the script active, then went to Scheduled Task / Scheduled Task Manager & manually ran it (to see). Then I went to Scheduled task log & it says:

Code:

Emails sent to:runnerout budda10r gamblingstats Amateur_plf supervideosmen zx10rgeo kuleshkovital Saxgrgns empaphnew sexyass olleloockoerrss Regespinlen buyviagramen LSMITH5791 tenacious z PERMARDIMBUPEd cheque7697 drugimpotence ChedeSach Aideptike Nadin Maison ShallbetNat KentBrooktl infiptoutsous jojonik GoldAmyFell Abarricosta Adillaida Tfyhdwrt SRASADAN Chickflick PERMARDIMBUPEj Blackjacktrinid inhisresy Abarricoss boiliorse. We tried to email the following users, but their email address was invalid:
The list is much longer & I cut a ton of names out. Why did it send out all those emails if the usergroup 3 was the only one selected?

5. I set the Days of Inactivity to 14 & the Frequency to 100 (3 emails per year). Will that only send 3 emails per year?

6. This might be unrelated but... I did get a test message from one of my non admin accounts (an inactive one of mine). The message came from: Kawasaki ZX-10R.net ["Kawasaki ZX-10R.net"@123485-app2.xxxxxxx.com] (I removed some of it). Why does it look so funky (the email return address)?

7. I got an email from my site saying: This email shows that the product is installed and working as it should be. There were no inactive users at this time.. The strange thing is I did get an email (to a non admin test account). How can I tell if it sent emails or didnt?

Thanks,
Rich

You can use standard HTML as well as vBulletin variables. My personalized message looks like this:

No, to Chris (he wrote the add-on, I just help out with support), or more specifically it adds

Code:

Inactive Reminders By Mished.co.uk
Quote:

3. Add credit to emails sent? - Does this add a credit within the "we miss you" email?
It adds the link to Mished.co.uk to the bottom of the email instead of to the forum footer.

I'm not sure. As I said, version 1.11 is buggy.

Quote:

Your settings mean that after 2 weeks of no activity, an email will be sent out and that this will be repeated every 100 days for that member.

The return address is the one you've set for your forum. Anything else is a server issue.

You can check the cron (scheduled task) log for this add-on.

The strange thing is that my forum sends emails from the correct address (for password resets, thread notifications, etc). This program is the only thing that sends from that 123485 address.

The weird thing is I got a second one saying it sent out everything to the usergroup (#3) which is not my admin (like i thought) but it is actually my users awaiting confirmation (why it sent out all those things).

My other issues are resolved. Any ideas why this keeps sending out that funky email address? The other Vbulletin items (password reset, registration, etc) do not have that email. Only the reminder software.

Would the older version fix that? If so, how do I uninstall 1.1.1?

Thanks,
Rich

Setting in vBulletin options | Inactive Users Reminder emails?

I do have 1.09, I only installed that one because I've read the thread before installing this hack. As stated before I have it set to 1 day inactivity email 2 and usergroups is 2 for registered users still not working for me. According to my log it says there is no emails to send out.

RichTJ99 04-08-2008 02:57 AM

I have the same issue. No emails to send when I have plenty of users that are inactive. I also set it for 1 day & 1 email per day.

I also set on of my guest accounts to be inactive for more than a day (for testing).

BlueBulletRL 04-08-2008 11:04 AM

Same thing I have a ton of inactive accounts. I appreciate the help you can give as I would really LOVE to use this mod on my forum. Thanks

Is this the mode that kills servers? i have many members and regardless it'll send a billion emails saying "come back...we miss you" then your host says NO - STOP! - then you disable it

Not if you configure use version 1.09 and it correctly.

b6gm6n 04-10-2008 02:52 PM

Yes it is this one... i was just about to remove it, kills me every time... turned it on once 2 days ago and my email system used it's 1000 a day quota and tons of returned emails since because of this... I have 1.1.1, you would think instead of being retrogressive and going back a version it would have the ability not to jam your email system... I have a 1000 email limit per day, my host contacted me last time about this mod, then i wonder why normal emails are being returned today... (limit reached), I've set the thing for 6 months, whats it trying to do email everyone ? i have setup this thing correctly and I'm not too sure it's my error, i have a lot of members, you would hope it wouldn't kill your server... cron is set to 1 hour, setting correct, user groups correct, should i set my cron to every 2 days? at least when it tries to send out thousands and thousands of emails I'll have one day at least to play with...

ahh i dunno, don't think it's right some how

Try reading the damn thread. I'm not the creator of this add-on (Chris is) but I've said many times that you should consider version 1.11 a beta version and 1.09 as the stable version. Use 1.09 and you won't have that problem.

LoreleiWeb 04-10-2008 05:55 PM

thanks for the awesome mod, just installed it!

just a techniqal q, since my server limits the amount of emails i can send per hour / day - i installed it today and my forum has about 11k members, half of them are inactive. will it send emails to all the 6k at once now, or after 30 days on inactivity (these are my settings) to ALL the members that were not active over the past month, or just the ones that will be active and then leave?

if it;s one of the first 2 options, is there any way to throttle these emails somehow? thanks!

1. Make sure you installed version 1.09, NOT 1.11

2. Set the options in vBulletin Options | Inactive user reminder emails to reasonable values:

Quote:

Days of Inactivity = 90
How many days a user can go without posting before they are considered inactive.

Email Frequency = 30
How often to send a reminder email once a member has become inactive.

Email Quantity = 3
How many emails to send each time cron runs (Lower means faster board, but longer to send all emails. Higher, vice versa.)

MindstateNL 04-13-2008 03:33 PM

Sorry, i´m a total newbie to this. Just bought Vbulletin after working with other forums.

The readme is ok, but for a new one like me, it´s not descriptive enough.:
It says:

To install, upload remindermail.php to your ./includes/cron/ dir, and import the product xml

Options are in admincp options menu, where you should edit the settings.
------
So no, i uploaded remindermail.php to the directory but what to do with the product xml? And where is `Options`, i can´t find it!

1. go to Admin CP | Plugins & Products | Manage Products

2. scroll down to [Add/Import Product]

3. follow instructions in the next screen

Once you have imported the product XML file:

1. Admin CP | vBulletin Options | vBulletin Options

2. scroll down to Inactive User Reminder Emails

Oh thanks a lot! This sure helps me out!

TROLL 04-14-2008 12:05 AM

very useful mod...

one suggestion for the future: i'd love to have an option added to set a total number of times to email a user, just so its not sending them emails until the end of time which is unnecessary for the forum and annoying to the user. either that, or if its possible to include a link in the email that says "if you wish to stop receiving emails about this, please follow this link: __________" where they can unsubscribe.
i do want to try to get users back on the forum, but i don't want to aggravate anyone or invade their privacy without them being able to ever stop it.
thanks,
bryan

My question is is this going to be 3.7 compatible or will there be a new version released?

i have to admit that i've gotten a few disgruntled responses to this email and some of there are kind of amusing though, haha.

i think that's a great idea...i'll be you could pretty easily change the templates yourself to do that by looking at the phrases in the emails for susbcribed threads, which has an option to disable further site email if i'm not mistaken. that will also keep you more sypatico with established practices if a spam question comes up.

i also have the mod installed to manage bouncing email addys-lots of bounced emails does hurt your "email rep", so weeding them out as i go is part of my overall site email management plan...

TROLL 04-16-2008 04:49 PM

what email bouncing mod are you talking about?

and i have a question about how many emails it sends at a time and how often it sends... i have mine set up to send 10 at a time, but how often does it do this? after looking into it i see that it only takes my setup about 20 minutes to send 4000 emails
how can i go about slowing this down properly?

and the yahoo/hotmail spam thing concerns me... is there a way around this at all? for all i know i've already been flagged (have had this running for about a week now)

And you could have avoided all of that if you had:

1. read the thread

2. installed version 1.09, NOT 1.11

3. set the options using a bit of intelligence

4. added instructions for opting out of future emails in the options for the add-on

5. known what you were doing before randomly installing add-ons

But thanks for your very insightful and mature input.

note- you have to check for yahoo's soft bounces before you manage them, info in the thread about it.

look and see how often the cron is set to run in your "scheduled tasks" of the admincp. you can adjust the frequency there, i imagine.

anytime you send bulk email, you have to deal with this. do you have a dedicated server, i guess? it would be a good idea to get yourself signed on for the feedback loops for those places that have them to help monitor. (for example, i'm on the aol feedback loop, so if anybody reports any email coming from my server as spam, i get notified.) yahoo doesn't as far as i know; they have a terrible practice of "soft bouncing" messages with the thinking that spammers don't retry, but real mail transport agents will. and if you host clients on your box, that's another good reason to get signed up.

honestly, i think that staying informed, making sure your emails have clear unsub instructions, and using some common sense will go a long way. when you get reported as spam, that generally means a person looks at your email from my understanding. so make sure it doesn't look like spam. make sure it says who you are, that they have agreed to get admin emails, and how to stop them...

while managing your email rep is actually a valid concern, i consder the stuff b6gm6n wrote to be straight trolling. (also found it ironic that your username is "troll" but you ain't the biggest troll in the room.)

Yes. Uninstall version 1.11. Install version 1.09.

Unfortunately that seems to have made no difference.
Deleted the old cron file and uninstalled 1.1.1, uploaded and reinstalled 1.0.9, same error.

For some odd reason he is using short tags. Just go to the first line of remindermail.php and change <? to <?php and that will go away.
