Look at the install file :) It shows what tables it creates. But for the most part ... it has it's own tables.

I dont think so, because when I go to the groups/index.php file, I only get a white page there too :( I also got this problem when I tried installing vbStatistic preview...:(

Exitilus 01-26-2007 05:07 PM

Hm..... Do you happen to have a Template Caching Product installed ?

pkallberg21 01-26-2007 06:00 PM

Not that I know of. Here is a list of all the plugins I have installed just to be sure:
Bills PayPal Donate
Cyb - Prevent Newbies from Posting to Wrong Forum
DownloadsII
GRPS: Groups Commune
IpInfo
psiStats 2006
vB Ad Management
vBadvanced CMPS
Weekly Stats
Zoints SEO

Thanks a lot for your help:)!

Exitilus 01-26-2007 06:17 PM

If I remember the Groups isn't compatible with Zoints SEO. It is compatible with vbSEO though.

pkallberg21 01-26-2007 06:22 PM

Ok :( I tried disabling Zoints SEO, but still the same white page :( What could I do to further troubleshoot?

Exitilus 01-26-2007 06:24 PM

Well don't you have to also add some .htaccess lines as well for Zoints SEO ?

pkallberg21 01-27-2007 04:28 PM

Yes but I had not done that at the time. Now I have. I checked Zoints SEO mod site and it doesn't list GRPS as being problematic with it.

nlarnold 01-27-2007 07:08 PM

I'm getting really confused about the navigation links. I've scoured this thread and still don't understand how to fix this problem. Here we go:

vbulletin is in "forum" directory
groups is in "groups directory

When navigating the site I always end up back in the forum directory. The usercp is in forum, the faq is in forum, all the nav bar links go to forum, so once your there there is no way to go back to groups. How do I keep a visitor in the groups where they're supposed to be. If they end up on the forums index page, they will be totally lost.

It's my understanding that the groups runs as a separate little world using parts of the "forum" where necessary. The more I read the more confused I'm getting.

I have a couple of other minor issues, but I really need to get a handle on this navigation thing. Any help and explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Nicole
VB newbie

nul7 01-28-2007 02:56 PM

^^ same problem we're having. There's no breadcrumb back to the groups home. We just have to tell people to hit the groups link in the navbar until there is a solution.

EDIT: One more thing, is it not possible to allow Super Moderators to moderate the groups? I've set it in their permissions to allow moderation, but they cannot access it.

aacircle 01-29-2007 10:54 AM

I'm just curious is there a way that groups can be awarded points based on the actions of group members. Such good deeds as good posting etc., helpful advisce and so on.

FleaBag 01-29-2007 05:00 PM

Just tried the latest version and it appears it is missing some phrases in the ACP. I completely uninstalled and then re-installed to no avail.

Screenshot it attached.

Exitilus 01-29-2007 06:54 PM

Yup. That is a known issue as well :)

FleaBag 01-29-2007 07:51 PM

Ah sorry, I couldn't face reading every post lol! :)

Exitilus 01-29-2007 07:59 PM

No problem. I thought I would reply so you didn't feel alone :D

mescalin 01-29-2007 08:49 PM

i am looking for posts but i coulndt find the answer, its more than 70pages, sorry if asked before..

vbulletin in /forum
groups /group directories in the root..

In usercp etc , there is no link anywhere from forum to groups, i did the template edits but i dont know why its not working.. its working if i enter from /groups directly..

If yu have a group or you are a member, it still says is not a memeber of any group in orum profiles..

Exitilus 01-30-2007 01:04 AM

No Idea O.o Try Re-Installing the XML I guess

The install file doesn't show what tables are created. How would one go about uninstalling this product?

It would be so much better if this product didn't touch the vbulletin tables. I'm assuming from your above comments it does.

Does this product insert a copyright footer and if so, can it be removed?

mescalin 01-30-2007 07:47 AM

logout does not work in groups view, because there is no login.php in the groups folder.. also same for usercp.php

Exitilus 01-30-2007 12:40 PM

In your navbar template you have to specify the exact location of these URL's. GRPS does try to rewrite the URL's I believe and there is a setting to disable it (In the config_grps.php file) make sure it's set to true .. that doesn't work. just rewrite them manually :)

RobParker 01-30-2007 03:50 PM

Installed this and it looks good so far.

One problem that's probably been answered but I can't find it in this huge thread...

When I go into a group and "post new thread" at the top of the new thread text box it says what Group I am in but when clicking on the link it just links to /groups/forumdisplay.php?f= which obviously doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Does it work ok with the template cache system available on here?

Dunno :D I don't use that ... heh

I've asked about this too but no answers. :(

sabret00the 01-31-2007 10:34 PM

Just for the record i'm not ignoring anyone, just not working on this at all this week. I had planned to at the start of last week but the lack of feedback lead me to kill time on other projects that have spilled over.

on the above issue, if you mean by forum profile www.yoursite.com/forums/member.php?u=10 then of course groups wouldn't show there. that listing is for user groups and not GRPS groups. if you would like it to show other information such as GRPS groups then feel free to Request it in it's own thread.

Merriweather 01-31-2007 10:40 PM

That makes sense. I would love to see it show the GRPS groups a member is a part of in the profile.

My biggest needed request is to be able to set group moderators -- users who can see private groups. Right now, only Admins can do that and I don't have the time to monitor all of my groups, I need to be able to assign more people. :)

Merriweather 02-01-2007 12:07 AM

Ok, this is driving me mad! I was having issues with missing images, so I edited in my template to use the full image url instead of the relative path. That fixes the images like folder, etc, but then it breaks my smilies! If I put the images back to relative paths, the smilies work again. I can't figure out how to have both working.

Merriweather 02-01-2007 02:29 AM

Ok, it looks like I would have to go into my smilies and edit their filespaths one by one. I've got over 100 smilies -- it would be good to offer some option when installing GRPS to update all smilies paths to absolute to save the trouble after the fact.

Merriweather 02-01-2007 02:34 AM

Another glitch. I have Quick reply turned off in my forum, but it's still active in GRPS. Needs to be the same as the forum settings.

Also, if I click "Advanced" instead of using the Quick Reply, it shows a preview at the top that looks like this:

Quote:

Preview
Default
<br>
Seems even without using it, the QR box gets a hard return entered causing that to happen.

Merriweather 02-01-2007 02:38 AM

Another area that could be improved. When viewing a thread within a group, the breadcrumbs show:

Groups Home > Group Category > Group Name > Thread Title

But when you are posting a reply, the breadcrumbs are just

Groups Home > Thread Title

Breadcrumbs should keep the heirarchy even when posting, same as in the forums.

Merriweather 02-02-2007 04:12 AM

I just found what I believe is a somewhat serious bug... if on the groups page while logged in, the navbar links work fine (i.e. User CP, Memberlist, etc). However, if you are logged out and on the groups page, the navbar links are all directing to groups/page.php instead of forums/page.php and the login at the top right does not work from that page at all!

My groups are set to be not accessible if you are not logged in, so you get the vBulletin "Not logged i" error when you try to view the page as expected, but no links work properly. the main login on the page (in the center) works fine, but at the top, it does not.

Sabret00the ~ Will you be doing any more development of this mod?

I am indeed, just still not finished my other project. it is indeed earmarked as next on the agenda.

Exitilus 02-11-2007 08:58 PM

Did you happen to see my post about trying what you said for customizing the postbit btw Sabre?

Merriweather 02-11-2007 11:35 PM

Seems that the reporting feature does not work within Groups -- I tried to report a post and once I hit "Send Report" it just refreshed the page and no report was sent. :(

Merriweather 02-12-2007 03:10 AM

This is quickly becoming a nightmare, I'm afraid. :( Due to the mod being outside the forums directory, I am having issues with links, forms, etc not working. For instance, if a user is not logged in, the login form and navbar links on the groups page weren't working. I had to go into the templates and manually add in absolute URLs (i.e. put $vboptions[bburl]/ in front of all links) so it would link through the forums directory and not the groups directory.

I thought I was making progress, but then there is the same issue with forms, such as the report post form. I fixed one issue I found which was the link that is supposed to take you to the thread you are reporting was not working (I added &t=$reportinfo[threadid] to the URL so it would go back to the correect thread). I cannot, however, get it to do anything but refresh the page when the report is submitted. I notice also that it's (for some strange reason) posting the description of the private forum where reports are supposed to be sent at the top of the report page. Also, I had to edit newpost_usernamecode to fix the "Logged in as" link as it was again trying to pull a page from the groups directory.

The deeper I get into all these additional edits needed to make it work, the more I fear I should just be uninstalling it. Am I just missing something totally simple, or have others not tested it as much as I have been and that's why all of this stuff hasn't been mentioned yet? I feel like I'm losing my mind!

I LOVE the idea of this mod, but the implementation is difficult at best and I'm nowhere near working out all of these bugs I've found. No one has really posted to this thread in a week -- has everyone given up or are they just busy? Are these issues all just related to my template or is this how it is for everyone??

sabret00the, where are you? :(

ChurchMedia 02-12-2007 03:25 AM

I'm sorry -- I'm going to have to agree. I've tried to do some mods that would make this integrate better with VB to give it more presence (either an RSS feed or update post to the main forums), but it's just not happening. It's a wonderful concept, but without more attention from the programmer, I can't have a dead section in my community. They would love to do something like this, but at this point I may just have to set up regular forums for them.

And I invested $100US into this hack. :( I may come back to it when it's fully developed. I'm disappointed.

sabret00the 02-12-2007 09:27 AM

I can see that everyone is getting impatient and for that i apologise. I have no abandoned this project, this is something i assure you of.

As stated previously, when i was just about to go crazy putting in work, there was a lack of feedback in regards to some issues raised, that left me in no man's land in regards to what to do. That together with the fact my enthusiasm seriously wavered for the project. I just decided to put in some hard graft on another project (my peer review system) which as a result, has been largely overhauled.

I do realise that i have a couple PM's that went un-replied to. The reason being that once i started the project, i wanted to finish it before i committed to time-scales or deadlines. After all a lot of people are feeling quite disappointed by this at the moment.

I am committed to this project, after all it's my baby. however sadly i can only go as far as the slowest person in the chain and developing something like this requires a lot of time. At times i have had to dedicate whole weeks to this. Time is really an issue when you're unable to move forward due to wanting to legitimately improve this in a direction the community wants.

I have said, that i will improve this product and as such i've publicly committed to folding in the gallery add-on i've been playing with. However given that there were bugs i wanted to deal with first, it's not happened yet. We're approaching 1200 posts and i've tried to stay on top of every single one of them. The same can't be said for everyone and it's not expected to, so requests for feedback go missing and people (namely me) get frustrated. The break i've had, seems like it's been a good one, it's given me a chance to just have fun with my coding and that's important to any one putting into a community project like this.

Please note, that sometimes things are just super difficult for me to sort out. If i can't replicate a problem on the two systems i've got running; my development board and my live board. then i'm really unable to fix it adequately if at all.

I really do, really do apologise the people who have followed this thread diligently and have been slowed down or felt neglected. That has not my intention, however please understand releasing releasing potentially three releases a week is something very few can manage or sustain without going crazy.

I have an email with outstanding issues raised in this thread from Merriweather of which i'm unbelievably grateful for. It helped me immensely and as such i will repay that hard work by trying to release this in the best fashion possible.

I've had a lot of ideas on how to improve this and mod and get the best out of it. Some things are really quite exciting. As for an RSS feed as i can see is requested in the post above this. I made one up a while ago and so will be sure to include it in the next release. some of the other stuff that i'm hoping to put in here are; Subscriptions (not sure if pm based or email based yet), Favourite threads, Favourite photos and some other stuff i've forgotten. Oh and of course some AJAX here and there.

Please note however that vBulletin 3.6.4 was released towards the end of November and despite numerous bug fixes that has gone into 3.6.5 a new release has not been seen as of yet. Please use that to gauge some perspective, especially given that there's a team of developers doing a job there and i'm just one man trying to keep over 150 people happy in as much time as i can dedicate while trying to maintain an existence elsewhere.

I am personally a BIG, HUGE fan of GRPS, even when my enthusiasm is wavering, i do personally love to use it, especially as an end-user. As such, i will not allow it to fall by the waste side. I am hoping to to be finished with PRS this week and thus resume work GRPS the following day, or in the following days. Hopefully then, this project will redeem itself in everyone who's gotten very disappointed eyes. Of that i can only hope.

I do humbly apologise for the long delay in status reports or indeed updates and hope that by 2.1 you'll all be extremely happy or at least on your way to happiness.

Exitilus 02-12-2007 01:48 PM

there is some easy template edits I can suggest for those links that don't work. Just lemme know which ones and I can tell you guys what to do. I have a variety of things outside of the forums directory so I've learned how to adjust :)

Merriweather 02-13-2007 02:35 AM

sabret00the ~ My offer of cold, hard cash still stands (check your PMs) if it's the motivation you need to get some of the bugs out so it's public release worthy. ;) As I've said, I do love the idea and am jumping at the chance to implement it, but there are some major bugs in the functionality that do need addressed. I think as soon as you get those out of the way, it will be fun for you again and you can play with all of the cool additions you have in mind. :) I'm sure it's not easy to keep up with all of the comments here, and hard to sort out what's a bug and what's a user error, so kudos to you as well for your dedication.
