The screenshot above is not for BP-Brown mate, but a grey skin it seems.
BP-Brown does not have any problems with the search icon

Do you have any plugins installed that are effecting this?
I am not having this problem on my test board:

What is the URL to your board?

Also the vBulletin 4.1.7 package has been updated to fix some minor bugs and include the CMS and Blog XML files which are not separate since 4.1.7

Same problem as the Darkness vB4 theme.

Make sure if you have any 'ad' templates in red, revert them.
