Nam, it has nothing to do with his hack, it's a well established issue with the new version of vb and IE. Search the vbulletin.com site for more info.

The release includes a plugin for forumhome which patches any forums that are set up as redirects to LDM or LDM categories. For links to the base category, it shows the latest submission. For links to individidual categories, it shows also the number of entries. See image

DAMNED! Why didn't you tell us this will erase the database?! I did an upgrade from 2.0.5 and all 65 entries are gone! :speechless:

I didn't tell you this because it doesn't and should not have done so for you. Did you configure 2.0.5 to use a different table prefix?

I also warned everyone with every release to take a backup.

For the record, I've just tested an upgrade from 2.0.5 and it works just fine for me. Let me know if you can give some more information.

Andrew, instead of having LDM patch to a separate "LDM" forum on forumhome, (I have enough subforums), is there any way of just adding code that says how many new subbmissions there are to the LDM area? Kind of like how the welcome panel on forumhome tells you how many new posts and new threads there are??

I'll give this some thought - I think it should be straightforward.

Hi!

It is possible that Guest`s cannot see the links Database?

I`ve there click on Link Database, they become a message that says: You have not rights to entry.

Yes, this depends on the permissions you set on the LDM admin/permissions page. Take a look particularly at the can_access_link permission.

If I'm missing your question, send me more information (e.g. your web site and an account with admin privs) and I'll gladly take a look for you.

Great job on this program. I was wondering though how I would be able to show the new downloads using vbportal. I noticed it had the code for vbadvanced. Is there a way?

thanks

I'm sure there is - I don't know anything about vbportal - does it tie into VBulletin's plugin system or does it use a mdoule approach like VBadvanced?

I tried to extend this to vBPortal myself, but didn't get too far, my knowledge of php is too limited .. :(

I found that there were so many good hacks, mods and themes that had been adapted for vBAdvanced that reverting back to vBA was a far easier option than spending many long hours trying to adjust these mods/hacks for vBP!
Now got a redundant vBP license.

mariannet 01-26-2006 10:00 AM

This script has just killed my forum upon uninstalling!

I used uninstall product and then local_links_kill.php.

I now get:

Invalid SQL:
SELECT dateline, userid FROM customavatar WHERE userid =;

jaffy 01-26-2006 01:46 PM

It uses the module approach like vba. tried making one but limited on php.

I have never used vba so not sure of its capabilities. Plus this is for someone else.
But I thank you for your suggestion, it is worth looking into.

Andrew, would it be possible to make LDM auto delete uploaded files from a set category. I was thinking about adding a requests section for small files, obviously these files wouldn't be needed forever so if they were pruned after 7 days and deleted from the server by the script it would save me a bit of time and sever space as I know full well I'd forget to delete things.

I only updated to a version that allowed uploads a couple of days ago and it's great. Your efforts are appreciated, thanks.

Marianne, I'm at a bit of a loss to help you, since this hack doesn't touch the customavatar table, nor the list of userids. What else have you installed?

Another request: Could you look into integration with James' Redirect hack?

AmpSul 01-28-2006 03:49 AM

could someone please clarify the file/byte quota system:

if a usergroup is set to 2 files / 100mb - will it stop them at 2 files or 100mb? that is, will it take the lowest first?

currently, i host large files and small files. i want my users to be able to get two large files (100mb limit) or many small files (up to 100mb). should i just turn off the files and keep the 100mb byte limit?

any info most appreciated.
(i've said it before (and will probably say it again) this util is absolutely excellent... there is no other utils that does the job for vbulletin like this!!)

Yes, you should probably disable the files limit. LDM stops the user at the first limit to be hit. For the bytes limit, it prevents a hit if this will take the user over their limit.

Yes, there is another request to provide an intermediate page before redirecting, so I'll find a way to include this (or something like it)

Will do. Perhaps better than 'prune after N days' is 'prune after N days with no hits'?

Ian Emu-UK 01-28-2006 10:58 AM

That would be better your right:)

FIXED IT!!
Had both Honorable Member CMPS (only) and Honorable Member installed, removed one and all my problems went away :)

Hi!

I use this tool only for Linkdatabase. User can write links and comments.

Now i have a problem and i don`t know how i can do this.

I have a main categorie -> next kategories -> next kategories -> here users can put a Link.

The problem is, that Users can put links after the Main Categorie, thats not good. Users should only put links in the last Kategorie.

I hope you can understand what i mean :nervous:

My next Question is:

How can i make it that comments always show ?

Yes, I think I understand. I will experiment a little and will try to give you an answer tomorrow.

I'm afraid I don't understand this question - do you want all the comments to be visible in the main category display, so that users do not need to click on 'view comments' to see them?

mccollin 01-28-2006 09:51 PM

I'm looking for a links and downloads module, and this looks pretty good. One question I have on this. How hard would it be to import files from a download forum that we've been using for a while. The downloads are attachments in that forum, and the thread titles are the name of the downloads... body is the comments. Has anyone done this?

Very thanks for your experiment :classic:

With my second Question i mean:

If i open a Link, on right side stand: show rates and comments. so i must klick on it to see all rates and comments. Is it possible to can see rates and comments always under the link ? :nervous:

The easiest way to achieve this at the moment is to 'close' all the categories in which you do not want your users to add new entries. Leave open the categories where you want them to be able to add new entries. You do this with Administer/Categories/open and close. Closed categories will accept entries from the admin but not from other users.

The next release will provide separate 'add link' permissions for each category, making it easier to do what you want.

No, this is not possible at present, because a) it would probably make the display look a mess and b) it makes the database query more complicated and expensive to perform. I'll give it some thought.

I think it would be pretty straightfoward to write a short script to achieve this, if you are comfortable with php and sql. I suggest working through the csv import feature of this hack.

You would need to do the following:
a) shift your attachments out of the database into the filesystem
b) the script would then loop through a join of the attachment and post tables to create properly formatted csv records which this hack could read

You also need to work out the directory where VB is storing the attachments, which is formed by cutting up the userid into separate digits

Thanks , thats works good. Is it possible to put the text " closed" away from the Categoriename?

With rates and comments i can understand what you mean, thanks !

Sure - just edit the links_main template. Look for this string:

Code:

<if condition="$catclosed != 0"><span class="smallfont">[$vbphrase[ll_closed]]</span></if>
and remove it.

quick question on statistics: since upgrading to latest beta (or at least i had not n oticed this before)... it seems only one of my categories is showing in the statistics and not the other(s).
downloads from this category also do not appear in the users ldm hits.
apart from this, downloads display and work correctly for all categories.

is there a category-based setting to control what appears in stats??

thanks in advance....

Seems like a bug - there is no per-category setting - I'll check what's going on - but am going on vacation today for a couple of weeks. Thanks for letting me know.

Please replace align="right" with align="stylevar[right]" this is better. the same for left alignment too.

Imagine that you see an item that must be at the left but it is at right.

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread.

This will make your hack compatible with right-to-left forums.
I'll translate this hack into arabic and publish it here if you want.

Thanks

you know $stylevar[left] value becomes right in right-to-left forums.
