yep you are right =)

this was the problem

echo "End call of global.php: $aftertime\n";
echo "\n<hr />\n\n";
} <----- somehow i removed this so that gave me the permission problem lol now everything works fine :)

Kalakov 02-07-2004 01:47 PM

very nice h4x0r3 John :) it works uber fine on RC4 =)

lasto 02-07-2004 01:47 PM

can this not be made to work on vb2.* etc as its the best arcade system ive seen and not everyone wants to make the upgrade just yet for obvious reasons as VB2 still has some of the bests hacks for it.

BeyRevRa 02-07-2004 01:48 PM

OK, On my forums www.starcraftdream.com if you look at the high score board the links at the top all blend in with the background. Could someone tell me where this template is? I can't find it.

Natch 02-07-2004 02:07 PM

[high]* Natch clicks install :)
[/high]

Thanks John for the hack, and I find it works a treat on RC4 :) also I finally finished my addon :) Get yer drop-down menu's here ! demo @ www.mobileforces.org

Excellent hack and works like a dream! :)

John - given that it already supports 1-on-1 challenges, perhaps a knock-out tournament system could be implemented. Here's what I'm thinking - Set up tournaments with pre-set number of players (e.g. 8, 16 and 32), and also for each round, you could set the number of games to be played to determine the winner (e.g. best of 5 games). Setting up tournaments could also be set in the admin control panel to make it so that only admins can start tournaments to make them more 'official'. Once a tournament has been set up, players click a link to sign up, and once all slots are filled, then it randomly pairs everyone up for the actual tournament.

Too much work? Anyone else up for coding this add-on hack?

The 1-on-1 challenges are great, but nothing beats a proper tournament. :)

Already being coded.

Edit: Just to clarify, it's not just the a tournament system... but you're along the right lines. :)

John, i've seen a load of outstanding flash games that the developer of them would be willing to let me have the .fla codes for, for a small fee, if I bought them as a treat for everyone, would you possibly do the coding for them?

Glad to see RC4 working fine with the arcade, I might have to go ahead and upgade it now then. :)

It`s not really an arcade problem, just an issue with your style.

I didn't change it, It always show on all administrators posbit on my forum execpt members, mods or super mods.

When l don't have an acrade hack installed on my forum, all my users postbit looks perfect but when l installed the arcade hack on my forum and l have the error in all administrators posbits. I believe i didn't change the codes in the postbit template.

John 02-07-2004 04:23 PM

Detomah, sure - one thing to point out... I'm self employed so I don't get a lot of time off. It's difficult for me to release a game every day or two, but what I am able to do is to set aside days to release games en masse.

In a week or two I'll release a bumper pack of 20 games, so now I'm trying to collect the sources for those 20 titles. (Or the swfs, if the flas can't be found.) What are the games that you might be able to get the sources from? Any demos? :)

Martyjp 02-07-2004 04:27 PM

I have an admin on my site who is very much into flash stuff, he is looking at converting a few games but good fla files are hard to find so hopefuly there will be a lot more games for the arcade in the next couple of weeks :)

SWF's? Found a decent decompiler? :p

Give us Donkey Kong or give us death! :D

It's sort of decent, works most of the time. Some games have protection code which can't, and more importantly shouldn't be overridden.

Very cool. Mind telling us the name of the program? (in a PM if you want) :)

X-Sector 02-07-2004 04:40 PM

In my board, all my administrators have a werid error in their postbits execpt all my members, mod and super mods. If l didn't install an acrade hack on my board then l would have no problems in all my administrators postbits.

From the screenshot you posted earlier, it looks like a problem related to the fact that you use a heavily customised postbit.

If you're using a heavily customised postbit, don't expect standard code to work with it. You need to tweak things.

Cool! Got an estimated time of arrival for this add-on?

As for the 20 games or so you will be releasing. They should be games that have no ending. A few of the current games have definitive endings (e.g. Penguin Bashing), which makes them fairly useless when it comes to high scores, cos once someone reaches the maximum then nobody bothers playing that game anymore. They need to be seemingly never ending games like the 5 released with the arcade.

Release date to be announced... parts 2 and 3 will probably be released together. I don't want to give any ideas away, because I want them to stay in this Arcade only (as with challenges) - but tournaments are only a tiny part of what's coming.

John, I've just found a bug that may be my fault, but when I click the "Your Settings" link to goto the profile.php, it fails with a white page ... When I ran the installer, it gave no template import errors, so I can't think what else would be wrong ... ?

John 02-07-2004 05:02 PM

Natch, did settings ever work for you?
(Also, go over profile.php with a fine toothcomb)

Natch 02-07-2004 05:07 PM

Settings hasnt worked for me yet - but I only installed today ... I'm 100% the alterations I made were good ... I'll re-check, but why might the template not be being evaluated properly ?

Natch 02-07-2004 05:11 PM

/me is a dummy LOL

ROFL looks like I'd not uploaded the edited profile.php LOL

/me is really sorry !

John 02-07-2004 05:11 PM

Does your modifyarcade template exist?

Edit: Haha :p

Natch 02-07-2004 05:15 PM

/me needs sleep it being 6:15AM the morning after a night of no sleep and a day of upgrading/rehacking to RC4 ...

Thanks all and g'night LOL

I was hoping I could define which games are available to which usergroups. So that basic members have 5 games available, then the next level has 10, and so forth; with me being able to define what's what. I wasn't positive this was in the works (if not, that's cool, it's a great piece of work); if so, then I was curious to where this was on your ladder of things to do. Merely a curiousity question :)

Error 28 isn't anything to do with the coding of the Arcade, rather the server it's running on. (And more specifically, the state of the database)

I managed to get error 28s in the arcade before, it was on and off, but it eventually fixed itself.

It was odd when an error 28 poped up from SELECT but didn't pop up when adding a post.

[EDIT] I've contacted them, and it WAS a host error. thanks guys!:squareeyed:
