ok so that functionality works when google have the position string in the referral URL, thats normally when a user is searching using firefox, and on a version of google that passes the information. (not all countries do).

if its saying #2 then at some point, somewhere - your site was in P2 in google for that search term. the serps vary a lot by country, for instance, my site is #2 in the UK for the search term "seo forum" and in the US its #4, in canada its #3, in india its #1, and in russia its #14.

you can check international serps using a few tools online, like this one:

Just a short note.

As mentioned in a few posts here and over at vbseo.com I had some doubts about this mod and the risk of being banned from major SE for generating keywords. I installed this mod 3 weeks ago and had no significant visitor boosts by now. Quite a bit, but nothing really important. ´til Monday my site was listed in big G with over 200.000 pages. Since tuesday I´m at 13.000.

I can´t tell wether Google has identified my site as a keyword landing page cause of this mod or if there are other reasons for this. But I would recommend that you all keep that in mind. You never know.

I´ll keep the mod until end of the week to see if Google is just doing nasty things or kicking me for a looong time into the second cache. I´ll update this info as soon as I have some news to tell.

Anyone else experiencing something like that ?

as mentioned over at vbseo.com as well, this plugin is in use in over 5,000 websites - I personally run it on about 60 websites and have never had a problem.

The stats on my board are that long tail queries have increased by around 75% since I installed it.

All SEO strategies should be thought out, and a great example is the discussion about this plugin that I link to in my main MOD description area over at seoMoz, where there are nearly 100 comments about it, and its effectiveness.

Basically, I trust it, and I am a full time SEO (check my bio).

Ain?t say a word of distrust in your person and I don?t have to do a backgroundcheck on you. There?s no need to get curious. I only stated that something unusual happend to me and may be could have sthg to do with this mod. I never experienced before that Google has dropped my sites so dramaticly and surely I?m looking for some answers cause my site is generating a needed part of my monthly income. So please dont take this personnel. It?s not meant to be.

not a problem mate, Im not taking it personally - but this strategy has had its detractors, I personally have seen great things on all my sites where this type of thing is installed (wordpress and vbulletin).

there is no reason though for google to drop a large amount of pages because this plugin is installed, thats my only point!

if you want any help with specific diagnosis, post a thread over at http://seoforums.org ;)

cheers!
