I looked into fixing up this add-on an the code seems to to old to clean up, then how to release an update for someone else's stuff. I made a decent attempt an starting something new then burnt out struggling with css styling. One of the other things I struggled with was not having a default template for creating an add-on to know how to set one up. Would be nice to just start editing a blank mod than reinventing the wheel. Anyway I'll take some screenshots to share where I was headed with my design.

Link to my view garage design concept. Where I struggled to build the css to look like this. Didn't want to give in the HTML tables cause I hardly see that in anything new. I had to link the image it was to big for an attachment.

What you had looked pretty good.

I would just love to get an more updated garage system for VB, I'm surprised there hasn't been more attempts toward it.

What I would love it to allow users to do more than just upload pictures. I think it would be cool to almost allow them to start a history of the car, and add entries as they accomplish more things with their car, accompanied with images/text/date.

Action-N 12-24-2013 09:36 PM

Hey cdoyle, yeah I know, I hope there is enough demand for it still. I'm sure many people gave up, but between the two garage systems an those using photopost hope to finally give them what they want.

I started with christeris classified script rebuilding it, he already had plenty of features that work for a garage. Just some concerned now as he give his mods to another developer how that'll work out when I ask to introduce my product off his code.

That is my plan to support photos, video, audio files. As for history I'm gonna link to a blog category for "Build Progress" an use that for history/updates. Also gonna put in a maintenance log for work done.

Probably gonna post a thread for development to take this discussion out of this mods thread. Gonna want feedback and ideas on what it should have.

FYI made major progress since last post, had the weekend an now two day vacation to work on it.

I also want to know where this is going , very soon within 1-2 weeks i will need to have one of this on my forum, and wanted to know where @Action-N , in what stage is it and when will be ready.

Thanks.

Mark4865 01-06-2014 06:44 AM

heh guys

anyone know how to remove the total vehicle count from the main top block and replace it with an image in between the slideshow and random vehicle images

Action-N 01-06-2014 01:34 PM

Hey Mark, I'm sure mine is been modified so I can only give you what to try. First the template comments turned on view your page source via the web browser an search for (total vehicle) text. Look to see what template it is in between the nearest BEGIN END template comment tags. Most likely it is "garage_welcomebox". See if that has anything in there like total count, an that is where to remove that text. Leave "raw welcomemsg" at least. Then go to vb options look for "Garage General Settings" then near the top you'll see garage welcome message field. According to version 3.0.2 he added bbcode support "Added bbcode capabilities to welcome box on garage front page" so just post your center image like it was a forum post an it should work.

On another topic, notice your a porsche only website so you probably don't need a top category of porsche. Might help that front page look fuller if it started with the model categories.

Mark4865 01-09-2014 06:27 AM

Thanks for the advice and info Action-N sounds a bit beyond my skill level but I will tread carefully and check it out, appreciate the advice

Glad ya found the fix I posted. :)

Is there a way to make this tab show when you are not logged in? For just viewing, searching ect..

Action-N 01-18-2014 03:57 AM

Speed, there is a settings group option "Garage Basic Permission Settings", first option in there is "Can Unregistered View?". Is that set to yes or no?

here?

Action-N 01-18-2014 04:30 AM

yeah an still doesn't show up for unregistered? You are referring to the navigation tab at the top of the forum right?

Then try in the "VB Pro Garage" menu on the left, click "Usergroup Permissions", then the green gear thing for the Unregistered / Not Logged In. Should see a whole set of options for them an on my copy there mostly set to no.

Try that.

SPEEDKILLZ 01-18-2014 04:48 AM

Yes the tab in the navbar. I also set those settings different ways (even like admin settings) and as soon as i log out the tab is gone

Action-N 01-18-2014 05:08 AM

Ok well I tried it an yeah even for me the tab is hidden, however I can still view the garage pages. So it's a tab issue an not so much the pages are hidden as well. Tried making a new tab in the manager an even that one disappears. Hard to believe this bug hasn't been found before now.

I was able to make the tab show by going to the garage tab in the navigation manager. Edit the main tab setting url to "garage.php" an deleting the show permission name. So imagine anyone will see it doing this, but will get you something.

SPEEDKILLZ 01-18-2014 05:33 AM

That worked for me as well. Thanks

This great mod has not been updated in a long time and is not compatible with the new navigational manager. You would expect it to have navigational problems out of the box.

Devilbrad 01-19-2014 01:11 AM

Argh! Can anyone help me with an install of this? Basic rookie mistakes. We can PM it not to clutter up the thread

Action-N 01-19-2014 05:06 AM

Hey Devilbrad what'd you do man, your site is down. What's a rookie mistake, that can't be fixed by uninstalling.

Devilbrad 01-19-2014 05:51 AM

Crap, sorry. Didnt change my sig. Im using a new domain now but its still on 3.8.6. Im setting up a mirror site since im upgrading to 4.0.6 (for now.. thats all my license will let me do) but im fumbling thru all this. I uploaded the files then installed the "new install" xml but got errors before it even installed. Is it because im only on 4.0.x?

The test site is www.racemagnum.com/thefogpound

Action-N 01-19-2014 06:09 AM

Um Devilbrad, yeah that's pretty rookie move if your starting with the xml with "new install" in the name. Smack yourself upside the head an install the "vb_pro_garage.xml" first, second the "vb_pro_garage_language_english.xml", then last you install that one you tried. His poor choice in naming is confusing, but it is only for a fresh install an not for a garage that has categories or garages.

Devilbrad 01-19-2014 06:21 AM

AH! Yes I'll admit, this is all new to me. Done lots of other web stuff but never vb stuff so its a big learning curve! I'll double smack myself for that one, I did as you said and its been installing so far!

I did take a look at your vbRides and it looks VERY nice! Something I might want to have. But since I am upgrading an existing forum, i thought it was be considerate if I didnt lose all their vehicles. (my garage from 3.x will install into this one, right??) Will yours??

Action-N 01-19-2014 06:41 AM

Wasn't trying to beat you up, like I said the way he named it was misleading. I haven't started any import code yet no. Good luck with upgrade, this thread is full of error reports. Get backups of what you can associated with the garage, code wise an the images are in folders on your server, just in case.

Devilbrad 01-19-2014 06:45 AM

Haha, no worries. Im a good sport about my faults.

I now have the "Garage" menu button and even added a car but when I click on the button nothing happens. I DID set the button to ENABLED and made the garage active.

Your tab is just the text, no link. Try what I posted for a tab fix for Speedkills, in the nav manager. The garage is there, just need the tab fixed. http://www.racemagnum.com/thefogpound/garage.php

Devilbrad 01-19-2014 07:26 AM

After searching for a bit for my Navagation Manager, I discovered that it only is on 4.2+, im still back at 4.0x :mad

I did change my "Garage Files URL" under General Settings to the link you posted. No dice.

SPEEDKILLZ 01-19-2014 07:12 PM

Is there a way to get "Garage" or "my Garage" link in postbit below user info?

Action-N 01-19-2014 07:50 PM

Yeah should already have something there, must have to enable it from somewhere in the settings. I uninstalled mine so I can reinstall a default copy that I haven't messed with to understand how to help with this. Only I'm on 4.2.0 still so still have varied issues.

SPEEDKILLZ 01-19-2014 08:35 PM

postbit has noting. i will look thank you

SPEEDKILLZ 01-19-2014 09:07 PM

Having a few issues.

When i registered user clicks "add vehicle" it takes them back to forum home?

Action-N 01-19-2014 09:26 PM

Looks like a tab issue for you too, this mods tab is not compatible with the new manager stystem. The page is there, but the link for add vehicle is missing the garage.php.

http://gearbanging.com/garage.php?do=add_vehicle

Best advice I can offer is manually build a tab using the new manager. Will be able to go to the demo on the products website an view the source code of the tabs to get the url's to link to.

Any fix to make responsive on mobile?

SPEEDKILLZ 01-23-2014 05:06 AM

No one?

Action-N 01-23-2014 06:02 AM

No not from me, that's css issue. View page source code for that section to track down the style tag. Think it'll be something to do position tag. Other than that find some code that recognized a mobile device an uses a different template. What do you want it to do anyway? Push, pull, wrap or squeeze the other content?

Still working on my project an haven't started with the widgets an blocks yet so how to handle this might help me design mine. Maybe just a single photo with garages description to the size that refreshes. The text would squeeze no problem.

SPEEDKILLZ 01-23-2014 06:34 AM

Or If you could disable for mobile users.
