LESS than vbseo

superjeff 11-07-2009 10:34 AM

maybe i will relase a vb4 version of this. who would use it?

wottech 11-07-2009 12:35 PM

vb4 has built in SEO, so why would this be needed?

superjeff 11-07-2009 12:43 PM

vb4 do a few stupid things, like Caps-Word-In-Url and no category name in the thread urls. Maybe most people won't care about this.

I have active licence, but I don't think to use vb4.
I am using tfseo heavy mode on vb 3.7.3, but I don't have a sitemap system.
Vbseo sitemap generator is not working with tfseo. Vbseo sitemap generator is creating sitemap which includes old style URLs like showthread.php and forumdisplay.php. Nevertheless, I am very happy about tfseo.

superjeff 11-10-2009 04:18 PM

I'm happy for you :)

you can edit the vbseo's sitemap system to make it generate tfseo compatible sitemaps :)

i did it for my *.narkive.com wich don't use tfseo. (http://de.narkive.com/s/sitemap_index.xml.gz)

I don't have much vbulletin plug-in knowledge to edit vbseo's sitemap system. I don't know how can I edit it.

I remember this sitemap plug-in : https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=198369 but It is not working with "heavy mode"

Hi, i have been using TfSEO 2.1 for quite some time now, and it did the job for me :)

Now that I am testing the Beta 3 version I am wondering what my options are and especially which is the best considering SEO.

I have a lot of pages well indexed in google, when I switch to vbulletin 4.0 I will lose a lot of visitors.

Question 1:
I don't know what's better,
TfSEO 2.1 of the one vbulletin provides(what's the difference?). Since you're considering making a version for 4.0 explain me what's it you can offer that vbulletin 4.0 does not have?

Question 2:
Is there a way to maintain my links and use the "
Mod Rewrite Friendly URLs" from vbulletin?

It's quite an frustrating situation, just don't know what's best to do and how to do it.. Any help would be more then welcome! :)

nfy_markus 11-21-2009 04:52 PM

I would use tfseo for vb4 :D

Zorck 01-27-2010 10:24 AM

Thanks Jeff fot the support.
I already upgrade to vb4, using the url rewrite of vb, is not the same, but is something.
I'm still looking for a way to redirect the old urls of TFSEO to the new ones of VB4, becouse I lost a lot of traffic :( .

James Argo 05-06-2010 06:56 PM

Yes off course we would love to see it in vB 4.

Keep going Jeff ;)

Easy: take the htaccess of the tfseo plugin, put it above the htaccess rules of the vb4 system.

Example .htaccess file::

--TFSEO RULES

--VB 4 RULES

#end

;)

nfy_markus 05-06-2010 07:12 PM

an update for vb4 would be great

NeDra 05-06-2010 09:46 PM

I decided to not more to vb4 because of this plugin
All the old link would become invalid, thus loosing traffic.
I personally couldn't afford such a thing, all the google search result becoming invalid etc...
All the link from other forum to my forum becoming invalid, etc...

was waiting for people to post result // issue with this plugin on vb4.
I personally would like it, but i though that this plugin wasn't required since there was a build in feature.
I even fixed bug in this plugin related to search and highlight text from search not working with the url-rewrite...
Not sure how you can expect to upgrade it to vb4 and keep it fully working...

Unless you have a lot of free time

You could either upgrade the plugin to vb4
Or post the format of vb4 url-rewrite, so that we can do some redirect of your plugin to the vb4 url rewrite...
And use the vb4 url rewrite without old link to become invalid...
Or a mix of them, anyway, I am looking forward to any solution out there since i paid for vb4 and haven't upgraded yet.

Me to, the TFSEO urls were a pain in my but. I finaly managed to redirect mosts urls to the correct topic.. but google still index the old urls :(

I think when i remove the rewrite rules it will be ok, but still i will lose a lot of visitors.

cedivad 05-07-2010 04:28 PM

@ everyone about a compatible htaccess to upgrade to vb4 without losing google indexed pages:

I't reeeealy easy, use this htaccess:

HTML Code:

RewriteEngine on

#First of all, the tfSEO rewrite rules:
#tfseo start here
RewriteRule ^(.*)t([0-9]+)(.*)newpost(.*)$ showthread.php?t=$2&goto=newpost [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*)f(.*)/(.*)t([0-9]+)(.*)/post([0-9]+)(.*)$ showpost.php?p=$6 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*)f(.*)/(.*)t([0-9]+)(.*)/([a-z]+)([0-9]+)(.*)$ showthread.php?t=$4&page=$7 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*)f(.*)/(.*)t([0-9]+)(.*)$ showthread.php?t=$4 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*)f([0-9]+)/([a-z]+)([0-9]+)(.*)$ forumdisplay.php?f=$2&page=$4 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^f([0-9]+)(.*)$ forumdisplay.php?f=$1 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*)-f([0-9]+)(.*)$ forumdisplay.php?f=$2 [QSA,L]
#tfseo ends here

#than what follows is the standart vbulletin 4 .htaccess file:

# If you are having problems or are using VirtualDocumentRoot, uncomment this line and set it to your vBulletin directory.
# RewriteBase /forum/

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -s [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d

RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L]

# Forum
RewriteRule ^threads/.* showthread.php [QSA]
RewriteRule ^forums/.* forumdisplay.php [QSA]
RewriteRule ^members/.* member.php [QSA]
RewriteRule ^blogs/.* blog.php [QSA]
ReWriteRule ^entries/.* entry.php [QSA]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -s [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d

RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L]

# MVC
RewriteRule ^(?:(.*?)(?:/|$))(.*|$)$ $1.php?r=$2 [QSA]

Make sure that old urls are redirected on new ones, and you are done.

Easy, isn't?

--ah.. anyway i'm "superjeff", just with another account.

Zorck 05-10-2010 11:44 PM

Thanks Jeff!!!

NeDra 05-14-2010 02:21 AM

which is great. but if i go into the forum first

http://daydie.co.uk/download-movies-f364/

and highlight and click a thread, it shows this:

http://daydie.co.uk/edit-this-from-a...-2007-t523343/

Ive edited the admincp bit, but says i havent on the threads. any way around this please?

NeDra 05-23-2010 02:20 PM

Hum daydie, I posted how to fix this if you look at the previous post from me.
It was a stupid error and it has never really been fixed.
You can fix it yourself...

I only have about 10 post, just read all my post...
I had the issue and fixed it and I'm pretty sure i wrote how to fix it.

daydie 05-23-2010 07:31 PM

Does it work for VB 4.2

final kaoss 03-10-2013 02:48 PM

No, there are major code changes between vb3 & vb4 and it would be pure luck on your part if this mod did function even minimally on vb4. Anyways if all you're concerned with is FURLS (friendly urls), then either check out my article or vbseo to get that functionality (Look in sig).

Naijasite 03-23-2013 07:15 PM

please update the mod to vb 4.2.

I could write some htaccess codes by modifying Neo's codes @ Unix.com forum (http://www.unix.com/web-programming/...etin-urls.html)

Code:

#####################################
# TFSEO URLS FIXING http://www.unix.com/web-programming/238951-removing-vbseo-vbulletin-reverting-back-vbulletin-urls.html
#####################################
RewriteEngine on

RewriteRule [^/]+/[^/]+-f([0-9]+)/ http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=$1 [L,R=301]
