Well i should be more specific, the bots are setup as users - what i mean is you know how you set a username from which XML feeds are posted as on vb sites. Well i have different usernames for the 3 feeds, so when a new thread is posted it is the same as posting as a normal user such as myself. I have made a test account as a normal registered user however this also does not appear to be working when i create a thread.
Could this be because I have made a custom user group aside from the "regular users" default group. Any users in the regular users group are subject to Spam-O-Matic filtering, users who are trusted are placed in a custom user group with less restrictive spam filtering.... I completely understand not having RSS bots being able to post direct to twitter, as i don't want automatic rss feeds pouring into my forum either, hence the reason i filter the feeds and only validate interesting posts that are of interest to my users. |
I think it has to do with the way vb4 handles the posts. I know the Event Forums mod also fails to tweet new posts. When a live user clicks "Post" it goes a different direction than when a mod/bot does it.

Cant get ito to work at all :( It shortens links to bit.ly but no tweets at all. Don't know what else to do. I have all steps completed in above instructions. It only shares my bit links if i log in to bit.ly and share them manually. Any help here?

How long until it shows up on Twitter? Immediately? If not it's not working I guess? Anyway to see errors? I'm not seeing any errors.
|
Yeah, I don't think it's working and I'm not getting errors. Twitter never asked me to verify the forum. Any advice?
|
I solved the problem by deleting the Twitter application and adding a new one because originally I used "read" instead of read+write. Bug with twitter I suppose.

I don't recall being asked to verify anything either. But when I posted a new thread to a twitter enabled forum, and logged into my forum's Twitter account, there was the message waiting to be tweeted. I did so manually. All subsequent twits have gone out automatically.
I don't think there's a lot of delay twitting, but I bet most readers are set to only retrieve tweets every x minutes. In fact, I think Twitter puts a hard limit on updates of something like 150/hr. |
Really sucks it does not pick up the rss feeds!
That would be GOLD! |
