I'm waiting for the Hotspot Edition, when it's released and judging by your screen shots, it's just what I've been after. I'll make a donation then :laugh:

Keep up the good work

because of privacy reasons one that wants to show on the map has to set his location.

I always advice to put it on a nearby landmark.

Geocoding via address is not supported for the same reason.

If it doesn't show because of an error please insert a link

I think they have something custom made.

You'll find vbgooglemap member edition easy to use.

The hotspot edition will even go a lot further. This is planned for a seperate release soon here on vbulletin.org and will allow you to put unlimited categories, listings, detailspages, filters.

You can also use it for giving your users a small homepage as a full vbeditor is included.

There are some screenshots to be found in this thread

markers.xml is showing and still the code looks as if the file isn't there (this can be seen if you use firefox)
it says it cannot find the marker xml element in IE

http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/markers.xml in firefox is empty. IE is more fault tolerant but there is something wrong with the xml setting on your server. Is full xml support enabled?

It might be a server side issue with encoding or incomplete php setup

How did you reenable xml support?

There is probably something wrong with that or posibly with a definition for xml files in the .htaccess.

I just installed this beautiful plugin but i have a problem. I can't see the "your entry" button (yes i am logged in!) How is it possible? I tried logging with different usergroup but the problem is the same. The button doesnt show itself and nobody cant add their coordinates.

Make sure you upload all the files including the bitfield xml

Can you please post a link so I can check?

ramar 04-27-2006 02:04 PM

<a href="http://forum.quantumfoam.eu/vbgooglemap.php" target="_blank">Here is the link</a>, its under construction so there are only my accounts :P. I have uploaded all the files.

As you can see my marker is on there (belgium)

As you have a custom style you need to upload the buttons to that directory too. That should fix your problem.

Moreover I'll update the member edition this weekend so it uses the markers script I created for my hotspot edition which is a "click and forget" script.

Have fun !!

This is awesome, dude. Thanks a lot!

Also, can you please add a scale to the map?
All my users requested this many times. I figured it very easy to do

after all occurences of
Code:

map.addControl(new GMapTypeControl());
add
Code:

map.addControl(new GScaleControl());
Would be nice to have this in standart version, so I do not need to update it every time after upgrade.

Thanks!!!!

rinkrat 04-27-2006 07:31 PM

First time install and I love it! Great job.

So you expect a full integration of both??

That wasn't directly the plan as the goal of both is quite different.

I'll make sure it get's in both versions.

Did you know btw that the hotspot edition features a small overlay navigation map you can activate from the admincp. That's a nice new feature in V2 API

but see for small boards or boards with only a few events.....like me ;) all we need to be able to do is put one or two events pins on the map amongst all the members....plus it would show them how close they are ;)

Same for me as well small site not alot on the map to start with but, i do see the need to have two tho for the bigger sites.

Would it be possable to like add a button to each version then so, for example im on the members map and there are the 2 buttons one for Show Map and the second Your Entry, so add a 3rd Button that links to HSE map. and same for HSE add a button to go back to members map?

well my site is growing but atm i only have 56 members..i wil keep the hotspot for when we get really big...which i know i will...not in the 1000's or anything but the high 100's i am positive and then i will need the HSE. so i will keep it just remove the link to it until then.............if stonyarc kindly integrates for us little guys ;)

Maybe it's time for a lite version for small sites.

HSE is build for the big boys

Tyegurl 04-28-2006 12:22 PM

i was just coming back to say maybe a vbgoogle member map with up to 5 events or something like that? a lite version sounds great tytytytytyty if you are willing.

It should be simple.

HSE was build on the engine of member edition but improved it a lot now I can use the HSE to build a beter member edition

Perfect circle:banana:

PS don't forget to install HSE you all, I think it's a nice thing to have.

Lite Version would be really nice ya :).

HSE installed as well :)

This would be cool if it supported zip codes as most average users have no idea what L&L they are at.

forgive me....do they know what state or country or region? if they do it should be easy enough if they go to the hybrid mode and find their street....

That's why we have the small map to zoom on their location. The users doesn't have to know it.

I'm rebuilding the member edition so it uses the click and forget function the hotspot edition uses.

Stonyarc - great plugin. I am looking to hack it for my own site for a slightly different purpose.

I have a VB form that members can add lat & lon into 2 custom fields I have added. I want to use your map plugin to help them find their locations. I will only be using the main screen in a simplified format to do this. When the main map screen is loaded, what are the variable names that hold the dynamic X & Y co-ords that are displayed in the read only boxes at the top?

I have taken off all functionality apart from the ability to drag the map around and zoom in and out and have added a form button beside the latitude / longitude boxes using the following code:

Code:

<form method="get" action="http://www.mydomain/forums/newthread.php">
<input type=hidden text name="my_variable_lat" value=?>
<input type=hidden text name="my_variable_lng" value=?>
<input type=submit value="Submit">
</form>

I am missing the variables to add in for the values. I tried $dlat and $dlng and the form code works but these variable are the default values. Any help please?

Regards

stonyarc 04-29-2006 08:54 PM

Keep in mind that the vbgooglemap members edition will change a bit.

It will get more of the functions I created for the hotspot edition

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=114149 (the click and forget and the listing stuff)

besides that:

the actual lat/lng come from the googlemap table => written to XML and parsed client side. That's the way vbgooglemap currently works.

That will change too.

So the actual lat/lng is put in the xml by the CreateXML function. I you make your function write the needed values to that table you won't have to change a thing. Everything will work and will allow you to follow future upgrades too.

Quick feature request - to make the width of the map definable in the AdminCP.

At the moment it stretches my forum, so I have had to manually edit the templates to shrink it. Would be much nicer as an admin option though ;)

Great work!

That is indeed fully planned for the next release.

Just as the hotspot edition, the member edition will get a seperate settings table and admincp management page.
