This was it. I never thought about the permissions.

1 down 1 more to go, now if you could also solve the problem with the admin not being able to view private entries.

It's not a bug, it's a feature - and as it is this there is no problem.

Private entries should be private for everybody except those explicitly allowed.

TOTALLY agree... .. We use ours to support our mental health forum and somethings are just not meant to be seen by people. This was a great privacy control and we LOVE it... ;)

docvader 02-26-2006 04:06 AM

Andreas, any way of having a "x New Journal Entries" link in the forumhome template, much like the "New Posts" link that we already have? I'm not quite sure how to code that.

Sometimes it's hard to direct members to the Journal section of the site.

Thanks.

thanks for the clarafication. I asked this because previously it used to be a feature thats Admins had absolute rights to view any journal. Which was a useful feature for a site like mine. As we have had some issue's with journals where some moderation was needed, involving some inappropriate material posted in the journals.
In a few incidents people were keeping a whole archive of threads and posts which were removed but they had made copy and posted that in the journals. And then someone else made a screenshot of that material and posted that in the forums.

I think journals privacy is not that same, as PM and email privacy.

One should have the right to see what others are posting in the journals on their site. It's not like Admis go round checking every private journals.

Pcparts 02-26-2006 12:51 PM

I have another problem, now I think this is a bug and not a feature.

When someone tries to comment on a private entry in journals, they get this error message. Eventhough the person is in the journal buddylist.

cbr929rrerion 02-27-2006 03:36 AM

problem, if you do a search for members, it shows the link to the journal but its messed up and it dont put a thing at the top so it throws them all off..

Can someone help me figure out why I get the mood image on an entry, but then right next to it is also the name of the mood in text? So, as an example, I get the "aggressive" image, but then the actual word aggressive is right next to it in text.

cbr929rrerion 02-28-2006 08:50 PM

What I get for installing an unsupported hack.... :disappointed:

ocmca 02-28-2006 11:24 PM

I keep gettng
"Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_PRIVATE, expecting ']' in /home/ocmca/public_html/forums/journal.php(564) : eval()'d code on line 188"
When trying to to veiw the journal index; and
"Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_PRIVATE, expecting ']' in /home/ocmca/public_html/forums/journal.php(978) : eval()'d code on line 48"
when clicking my journal...

Anyone have this problem? When I first installed it I got the error when clicking the journal index, but I was able to go in and ALMOST make a journal entry... but now I can't even get that far....

Help please :(

sybarites 03-03-2006 06:51 AM

ok 3 different people asked these questions and got no answer:

1) Will vB Journal ever be upgraded to work on php 5??
2) will vB Journal ever be upgraded to work with mysql 4.1 + ??

Please?

Anyone have any advice on the above problem?

ALSO, is there a way to give a usergroup moderator priviledges in Journals (like to delete/edit someone's comments or entries)? If there is, I must be blind because I can't find it.

I am running 4.1.. Is that why I am getting this? (Sorry.. I cant bear to read through 1000+ posts :))

Code:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_PRIVATE, expecting ']' in path\journal.php(978) : eval()'d code on line 48

Ok.. Yea.. So I got impatient.. And looked through the entire thread.. Very painful.. Only to find one suggestion to fix this which was on page 39, post 578

Moonclamp.. Have any issues since doing this???

Quote:

I had this on a few templates

I fixed it by searching for this

"$journalinfo[private]=='1'"

and replaced it with

"$journalinfo['private']=='1'"

Might not be the right way to do it, but it sorted out the problems

Open up includes/config.php
Browse to the bottom and set the admin id number to that of your own admin number IF you are NOT number 1...or add number 1 in the missing areas if you are number 1. There are several diff options...do this for them all..
Save and upload...the journal admin appears!

Two days and it was that simple..ugh!

not sure anyone report this problem before...

when edit the entry and keep the original mood's name after edited the post about the
mood's name part double show?anyone know how to correct this?thanks...

Andreas,

Any plans of upgrading this to vB3.5.4?

Thanks!

Brandon Sheley 03-09-2006 06:44 AM

I'm using the mod_rewrite from DaniWeb for my forum (http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread35147.html).

Can anyone provide what rules I should use to make the journal pages search engine friendly? Would I need to place the hook into the same place (global_complete)?

Thanks,
Craig

I don't know hun... I just know that the hack creator strongly advises against using the journal on mysql 4.1 + and php 5.... both of which my host provides to us, and have no plans to change *sigh*
my members are practically begging me for this

AN-net 03-10-2006 07:05 PM

just an update on vB Journal 1.5, i have been very busy and unable to get much headway in Beta 4 but this weekend I will be working on it.

What is the problem with the latest versions of mysql and PHP????

I have PHP5, and the latest mysql and apache on my server, and I'm testing out a huge board hack, and now this ones broken unless you have old outdated versions of software?

Showing Last 5 Journal Entries In Members Profile Instead Of The Last Entry Beta Released

lazytown 03-13-2006 08:59 PM

It would really be nice if journal entries could be given rep. Sometimes they are more valuable than posts and users can't get a reputation boost from them. Comments could also use that as well, although I think that is less important.

It would be nice if this extention had a description on top of this page or at least a link to the original version. ;)

Hoang Tu Ao Den 03-19-2006 06:25 PM

Hey guys,
I really need help on this.
I installed vBjournal on 3.0.7. Now, I upgraded my forum to 3.5.4 .. and of course vBjournal doesn't anymore.
I tried the uninstall option in journalinstall.php but it doesn't work and shows:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/truong2/public_html/forum/admincp/journalinstall.php on line 440

How can I uninstall the old vBjournal on 3.5.4 ?
Thanks a bunch

DiscussNASCAR 03-20-2006 08:53 PM

I've installed this 2 times w/o problem, but on the third time, it didn't place the vbjournal block in the AdminCP... ie, I can edit any of the settings :(

I've uninstalled and redid it all again, still not there. It worked fine on my other 2 sites though :(
