Is there a reason why I don't have the "Connect With Facebook" button, but only a loading indicator?

Usually this is an indication of app settings done wrong. See this post for screenshots on how the app should be setup on the facebook end.

Finally got it working sort of.
I did all the edits...But nothing is showing up on peoples facebook account.
And when they join my site why can't I see their email instead it shows like this

And also when people sign in goto user Cp, click on email setting a white box saying "request for special permissons" just flashes up really quickly and then goes

Facebook do not let application developers see the actual email addresses of users. You get a proxy address that the application can email them using as long as they have 'granted special permissions" which is what the email settings link does for Facebook Connect users

Any idea why a box just flashes up really quick and goes then? what is that box? it stays long enough for me to see it's saying "request special permissions" but thats all

Been using this for a while and a new error just arrived (see attached image)

Very strange. Double checked my settings and everything still functions properly. Just getting a great deal of error reports. Any ideas on what may be the cause?

That's new. It's really not anything major though, because that's all handled through facebook anyways. The privacy settings are all handled on the facebook side of things.


If you didn't change anything on your end javascript wise, I'd say that the only thing that was causing that would be something on the facebook end. They DO change things from time to time, and this relies a lot on external content.

That's correct, I haven't made any changes in a month or so. Also, I've noticed the problem only exists with IE. I hate that browser but unfortunately I must support it.

I'm trying to see what could be the problem but I'm not seeing anything abnormal. Just a hang on that xd_receiver.htm and then the error follows after about 30 seconds.

can anyone tell me what is wrong? I have everything installed... I have the facebook button... but when I try to log in to for facebook it says "You have entered an invalid username or password. also I don't quite understand step 5 "Go to FB Connect Options > News-Feed Templates and register default templates. Then Go to FB Connect Options > Settings and save your settings (even if you don't change anything)."

When you use the facebook connect app to register your account, you must always use the facebook connect app to manage your account. Ignore the username/password buttons if you've registered via facebook. It really isn't that hard.

Exactly what it says! The instructions are very clear. If they were any clearer you wouldn't have been able to read them.

Go into fb connect -> news feed templates
Click on 'register default templates'
Go BACK into fb connect -> settings
Click 'save'. Even if you haven't changed a THING until that point, you need to click save.

I get a ton of spammers registering on my board to sell products, so I don't want people to be able to bypass the registration process (we screen all registrations manually). If they login with their facebook info instread of going through the registration process, will we still be able to manually screen each one?

There normally BOTS well from my experience.

I dob't you will get any bots signing in via facebook

It is possible to change the setup to not allow signups via facebook connect, but allow users to associate their facebook login with an existing account. This will solve that issue while allowing you to keep control over who's registered.

I can't redistribute the code, you'll need to look in the XML for how to do this, but it is possible to do.

alright I figured out why it wasnt working... I entered the secret key wrong... but now when I log in (for the first time) with my facebook it takes me to this screen:

and as you can see the format or what not is screwed up... how do I fix this?

All I can say is look through the XML. The answer is in there.
Like I said, I won't post the solution here, because that would be redistributing code.

I'm trying to install this mod on a fresh installation of the latest version of vBulletin. For whatever reason, when I try to import or upload the XML file I get an error message "invalid file specified." This is the first mod I've ever tried to install, is there something I'm missing?

edit: I went in and looked at the XML file, it looks fine. I reuploaded it a few times to make sure, as well. I can try either option on the import screen and I still get the same result. Any ideas?

If you disable this mod then people can't post on the forums.
I disabled it and went to try to post a message and it keeps saying

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 1 character

Your phrases didn't get imported. Try reimporting the XML

Your server isn't parsing the XML properly, the product XML itself is good.
Make sure you meet the requirements in the first post.


This has been answered a number of times in this thread. This is not a mod issue, but an editor issue. The 'enhanced editor' has known issues with multiple addons. Switch to the 'standard editor' in your profile, and you'll have no problem.

I have no idea why the advanced editor does this, but it does this with almost every single plugin that interacts with posts.

Just an update to my issue... I haven't done anything but the error is gone today. Maybe it was FB making some changes.

Well why isnt it a mod issue if it is the mod that has caused this?
It's strange as it has only started happening today and only on 1 user on the forum

The mod isn't causing this, the editor is.
Like I said, this happens with almost every mod that uses the posting interface, the exact same error, the exact same problem, yet if you switch editors, the error goes away.

Something, somehow, inside the advanced editor is messed up and causes this.

is there a way for the application to invite all your facebook friends to log into your website or to become a fan of the application?

i've had this mod working for a week, now it just stopped working, I didn't change any settings.

Now when i hover over the connect button it just shows the link http://mysite.com/index.php# (my site replaced with my actual site of course)

Update: It works if you log in with normal accoutn and then press "logout" the screen that says "go back to what you were doing" the button works there... but not on main page.

On mage page i get a script error:

Something is wrong here. When I have Facebook Connect enabled, and you visit my forum - the page finishes loading and it's nothing but a blank page. Why is this? =\

This web page has a redirect loop.

The web page at null has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.

I am getting this error now when posting on the forms, this comes up in the box that normally asks if you want to publich to facebook

This mod does not work with other mods using the Facebook api, including openinviter. You need to pick one, but you can't have both running.

Remember, a good deal of this comes from Facebook, and resides on their servers. Because of this, you will from time to time get a number of errors that will resolve themselves.

Installed and seems to be working. But I do have 1 thing I would like to see if we could change.

When I post a new thread, it will post to face book. But it will only show the thread title.
Is there a way we can have it post (on facebook) a small excerpt (so may words or letters) then a read more link?

old member who associate their account with facebook, should it post there threads on facebook? I'm sure it used to pop up and ask. Now it only does it if you sign in via the facebook button

I did notice another issue.

When I posted the link, It went to facebook. The title of the thread shows, but when you click the link it takes to you the forum. Not the actual thread.
Anyway to change that?

That's a server error, not a plugin error. Contact your server admin

An update to help you wolfstream: I did figure out the issue.

If you add a "Fan Page Block" to any page with facebook connect plugin you need to make sure to use your API, not the auto-generated API that facebook gives the "block".

This is crazy, I installed this earlier today and it worked perfectly. People were signing in from Facebook, but now it does let anyone sign in. Says they got the wrong login. After I cleared my cache it acts like its letting you log in but when it refreshes your not logged in. Help!

Again, remember that this is a plugin that relies on external content. I've seen strange behavior, from posts not being able to be made to popup errors. It will eventually clear itself out (usually within an hour or so).

If it worked, it will work again ;)
