In Banner Insertion plugin, replace all ocurrences, & --> &
This fix is only for output a valid w3c urls, i suspect that some clicks were not counted for this reason in some browsers. Sorry for my english! |
I don't believe this makes any difference. All browsers I know handle '&' correctly, and if any, it may be rather a server issue. However, I haven't had ever a failed click with a single '&' on IIS and Apache web servers, but a few with '&' :)
|
I don´t make the standards, it´s only a recomendation for more compatibility and for fix the output error in the w3c validator.
Thanks for your time. |
Ok seem to have noticed a small problem in where when you click on a banner it loads the URL that it is suppose to as indicated in the control panel setting for the banner. But at the same time it loads another page that displays just the banner on it's own.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this behavior? It does this same behavior in both FF 3.6 and IE 8. Installed on v4.0.3 Thanks. |
So I am trying to install this but I am having a very odd problem.
It keeps returning this message Quote:
Help!? v.3.8.6 |
Did you upload the upload directory to you forums home directory?
Or did you upload the contents of the upload folder to your forums home directory? As you have to upload the contents of the upload directory to your forums home directory. |
That may be my issue...
That worked! Thank you! |
Works this on 4.1.0 PL2 ? I cant see any banners show up

It works finally for me. So to show random two or more banners I must add every banner in a different position and then i should add the code e.g <!--@vbbanners:0@--><!--@vbbanners:2@--><!--@vbbanners:4@--> or is it possible to put the banners in a single position and to show them random?
Also how can I make the banners to change after x seconds? Thank you for this wonderfull mod |

Any idea as to what is going on with my issue posted on the previous page?

Hi and thanks for getting back to me.
No script or url is used in the banner itself. The only URL is the the one that is entered into the URL field in the banner configuration page. Ok I took out the URL listed in the banner configuration page and when you now click on the banner it goes to the following address. http://www.kawariders.com.au/rbs_banner.php?id=5 How is this possible when no URL is listed on the banner configuration page nor in the banner itself? Ok just edited a banner to include a URL so that when you click on it you are taken the URL. But for some unknown reason it doesn't open the URL it is still opening the rbs_banner.php?id=5 . I viewed the source code of the page and this is what it lists. Code:
<div class="ad_global_header"> The only time it doesn't link to this address is when I enter in a URL in the banner configuration page where it says. URL If you are using an Image banner, please insert here the destination URL. But then I have the problem of when you click on the banner it loads the banner in a new page as well as the URL in another new page. Thanks. |

From your code, I see you have flash banners enabled and also click tracking. But you haven't specified an image, and the landing page is your image. Thus it is absolutely clear a user jumps to the banner ;) Please disable for a moment all of your banners and create a new one. In the Image field, please paste an URL which goes directly to an image, such as: http://www.google.com/images/logos/ps_logo2.png In the URL field, please paste your landing page, such as: http://www.kawariders.com.au/ In the title, type something which makes sense to users while the mouse is over but not clicked yet. Also, assign a position, if you have more than one. And just save. You should now see the image in your banner location and when you click, go directly to the landing page. It should now look like (template ad_below_navbar): Attachment 124592 Attachment 124593 All the rest are extra features, which may replace or extend these basic features in one or another way, and are very similar. So now, if you have a flash banner and want to wrap it, the swf file URL goes into the Image/ Flash field, and the landing page is URL, and in addition you will click on Flash Banner: yes, and insert the flash dimensions. If you want click tracking, you enable it as well, which will direct the users to the phantomatic rbs_banner.php?id=xxx script on your site, which is then redirecting to your landing page. |

You see how this has to be setup with the two default banners coming with the product. |
How do you know where each template will show an ad?
ad_board_after_forums = ad_showthread_firstpost_start = Has any one compiled a list of the templates with there positions? |

When static images are used there is no issue with two browser windows opening at the same time. The two browser windows opening at the same time with one window showing the banner and the other window showing the website only happens when using a swf file. Here is what I have in the banner config page. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2010/12/40.jpg So is there something I am still missing here? As surely two browser windows are not suppose to open at the same time when clicking on a swf banner. Thanks. |

Please read the help files and eventually watch the help video in the first post to get an idea what you can do with this product. If you can't get it running, please reinstall the product and try the default banners first - they are guaranteed to work ;) |

Here is a direct link to the swf file. http://www.kawariders.com.au/images/banners/jds.swf There is no URL link added to this file. Thanks. |

At this point, it may be a browser issue ... Or do you iframe the banners? |
This is the plugin i've been waiting for. :)
Thanks But can i request some more features? Maybe like impressions cap per day per banner? And 1/24hours freg capping maybe? Would be great to have country filter too. Sorry if i am asking too much but just my suggestion. |
Finally I managed to understand how this mod works :).
I have one more question : I need to know if this mod will not affect my affiliate urls ? I right-clicked on the banner and then I click Copy Link Location and I saw my destination url is http://www.domain.com/forum/rbs_bann...id=12&userid=1, instead of my affiliate url. It's okay like this or will affect the tracking? |

If you don't trust your affiliates or you don't have remote click tracking, keep it on. If the landing page URL contains your affiliate code (normally it does), affiliates will not notice a difference. If your affiliates rely upon the referer and the web server does not redirect correctly referers, you may need to switch click tracking off. This is however a problem you rarely encounter. Please check with your affiliates. |
Ok thanks for all your answers :) and keep up the good work you do here. Cheers !

BTW can I ask I seem to have problem getting the ad show in first post content. But it works in all other locations. I am doing something wrong? I should downlaod the 2.3.1.rbs.zip but use 2.3.1-hotfix-product-rbs.xml to install it. isn't it? added install and added nominated motm Edit: Is it possible to track scripts click rate too or it's limited to just single flash and pictures? |

Hello and thank you very much for getting back to me and your continued support on this issue. I am running Firefox version 3.6 and Internet Explorer 8 and the two browsers opening at once happens in both of these browsers. I guess I can try other versions of Firefox by using the portable versions and see what happens. But seeing how the issue happens in both FF and IE I am assuming that the browser is not causing the problem. Sorry what do you mean by iframing the banners? Here is the code I use in the "ad_global_header1" under the "add Location Templates" of the skin. Code:
<br><br><br> Thanks. |
Quote:
The first post location is found in a specific template, but I can't remember which, maybe a designer can help you. ... and it is not possible to click track scripts, unless you are using a cyclic reference to the landing page inside the script to rbs_banner.php&id=N, where N is the banner ID and URL is defined as the landing page. However I haven't tested this extensively and it may not work under some conditions. |
Quote:
I copied the banner code from your site and tested it again on mine, at the same template location. The extensive testing results are: your swf banner does occasionally execute code which causes to open an additional browser window. While it happens on my site occasionally (1 out of 5), it appears to be constant on yours. I can't tell. However, it is definitively a flash banner issue, and probably related to the mouse click on a certain area or to an internally captured event, such as onLoad. I have no solution for this. |
Quote:
But if this issue is related to the banner wouldn't this behavior be present when using normal HTML code to display the banner? As I don't have an issue when using normal HTML code to display this banner or others I have created. In fact no browser window opens when I use normal HTML code to display the banner as there is no link built into the banner or implemented into the HTML code. Thanks. |
Quote:
At this point, you may still show your banner as HTML, pasting the code into the Text field, but of course, the landing page must be compiled into your banner in order to reply to a click. |
Quote:
Thanks for getting back to me and it's a strange one. I have been playing around with different settings and things to no avail :(. I even tried some different programs to create banners but the same thing still happens. I was thinking my next step would be to paste the code into the Text Field of the configuration page and put a landing page inside the banner. But if I do this is there anyway that the clicks can still be tracked? Thanks. |
