Upgrade to v1.1: You can now set the width and height of the Flash Movie or Game using the URL command line and parameters!

Good for those of you who run your site at HIGH resolutions. :D

If you don't enter any width or height parameters, the Flash movie or game will automatically default to 600 x 400.

Parameters:
--------------------

play = name of SWF file (without the .swf extension - make sure the capitals and small letters are the same!)
w = width of Flash movie or game
h = height of Flash movie or game

default width and height is 600 x 400

http://www.your-forum.com/forums/flash.php?play=filename

"filename" being the name of the SWF file (without the .SWF) - the name must be exact (including the capitals or small letters)

to set your own width or height:

http://www.your-forums.com/forums/flash.php?play=filename&w=1024&h=768

Upgrade to 1.1
------------------------

If you want to be able to manually set the width and height for different Flash movies and games using the parameters, upgrade from v1.0 to v1.1 - just replace the old "flash" template with the new one, and replace the old "flash.php" with the new file. :)

Enjoy!

hmm it's a little chuckleheaded all together, now we have two hacks, every hack has it's advantages and disadvantages, Erwin, yours with this new great parameters and with the possibility to play every flash game u want, but no highscore list.

on the other side, JohnWarwicks Hack, with a great highscore list but no ability to play different flash games, just tetris with only 10 short levels

nevertheless big thanks for your work Erwin and John

To add a highscore list to a Flash game, you need to manually edit the Flash game file to integrate it with the vB database - it's not easy, and not all Flash games allow you to do this because of copyright and licenses. :) Make sure you find out that you can hack other people's Flash games before you do it - otherwise their lawyers may call you! :)

I aimed to make my hack easy to use - once it's installed, it's just a matter of uploading the SWF file to your forums directory, and using the command line and parameters. No need to edit anything. It even plays movies.

I can even make it play remote SWF files - but I won't do it because it would be unethical to play games on your forums hosted on another person's server.

Well, he can only do it with Flash games that are in public domain, like the Tetris one he used from my original hack. He's done a good job with it. However, not many Flash games out there will allow you to edit the source code so you can save the high score into your database. You can still integrate it into your forums with this hack.

If anyone comes across a good SWF game, please post here so we can all share it. :)

Tell me about it, lol! I'm going to write pong myself, and I'm asking the copyright owners of some good flash games if they'll share their stuff.

The thing I love about the whole leaderboard concept is that you're introducing a competitive spirit into the forum, making things a whole lot more fun! Still, I like that you're doing with this hack :)

Well, here's a very basic Pong Flash Game I found - 1 player, you use the cursor keys to move the paddle. You can probably improve on it...

Unzip the ZIP file and upload pong.swf to your forums directory.

To run this integrated into your forum with my hack, use this command line (modifying the URL for your forums of course):

http://www.your-forums.com/forums/flash.php?play=pong

Alternatively, you can let your members watch this hilarious Pong movie integrated into your forums.

Unzip the ZIP file and upload pongmovie.swf to your forums directory.

To run this integrated into your forum with my hack, use this command line (modifying the URL for your forums of course):

http://www.your-forums.com/forums/flash.php?play=pongmovie

A cool Flash Pacman game from the site in my first post. It's a free download and free to use.

Unzip the ZIP file and upload flashman.swf to your forums directory.

To run this integrated into your forum with my hack, use this command line (modifying the URL for your forums of course):

http://www.your-forums.com/forums/flash.php?play=flashman

This is one of the better games from the same site. Again, it's a free download and free to use. It's a Samurai Fighting game, similar to the old style Karateka/ Budokan fighting (but with better graphics).

Unzip the ZIP file and upload samurai.swf to your forums directory.

To run this integrated into your forum with my hack, use this command line (modifying the URL for your forums of course):

http://www.your-forums.com/forums/flash.php?play=samurai

The ZIP file is fairly large, and your members will have to wait for the swf file to load in your forums, but it's not a bad game at all to be able to offer online at your forums! :)
