This is a pretty good hack. It requires a lot of editing before it can be posted on your site. It opens a persistent connection which I don't like so I changed that and it's in desperate need of getting all the html out of the php code and into a template. All in all it works well but took me about 4 hours to edit and test before I installed it.

there are a few errors like referencing variables before they're declared which have to be fixed (you'll see) and some other little items, but I would recommend this hack. My users love it.

I have it working with 2.2.9 but note this IS NOT a quick install.
