Is it true that you still shouldn't use this on mySQL 4.1+

I have it working with mysql 4.1. It doesn't work with php 5.1.2 or any version of php 5. In the bugtracker the php5 bug is marked as fixed, but, an updated version with the fix hasn't been posted yet.

ddrultramix 01-30-2006 07:59 PM

What is this? What can it do?

Milad 01-31-2006 12:43 PM

When will vBjournal go Gold?

thank you, I'd really like to add a journal to my forum, but not if it's going to screw up

I've added journal system to vb3.5.3 and php4.2.2 and so far its working fine :D for the most part, although I don't know what the compatibly is above for sws to put the 4.1+ .. I've hacked up the journal layout a bit to work better with my site, but haven't changed the core php much.

anyway its worth trying the journal system on your test board :D production I guess is use at your own risk and make backups the aka the general rules.

now my question for hack, is any change of adding RSS feed or personalized RSS feed system to the journals based on users name? or something to that nature?

thanks for all the hard work on this system :D

Andreas 01-31-2006 07:13 PM

Uuuh ... vB 4.2.2!
Where can I get that?
:D

thanks hun.... my host uses 4.1.14 standard. I'm going to give it a try...

Ohiosweetheart 02-01-2006 09:49 PM

ummmm... where do I upload the files to? the forums directory?

Snake 02-01-2006 09:53 PM

Yeah to the forum's ROOT directory. ;)

Ohiosweetheart 02-01-2006 09:55 PM

thanks Ohio neighbor ;)

Ohiosweetheart 02-02-2006 12:11 AM

grrrrrrrrrr... I read the directions up top on how to do a database query.. and it went right over my head. I'm not upgrading, but doing a fresh install.... is this necessary?

WhiteOx2 02-02-2006 07:04 PM

If you have phpMyAdmin:
Click on the SQL tab
copy and paste the code into the box and click 'Go'

OR

AdminCP >> Maintenance >>Execute SQL Querey
Paste code in box
Click Continue

???`S?LV?R???` 02-06-2006 12:05 AM

Is there a reason why the use of mySQL 4.1+ is not recommended?

and with that being said, what mysql version is recommeded of ideal results of this?

Andreas 02-06-2006 11:42 AM

4.1 not recommended -> You might run into problems with conflicting collations

I would really like a "Latest Journal Entries" on forum home.. maybe list the usernames of recent entries.....

that would get more people reading and writing in them...

And maybe a wat to display the latest entry in member profile..

mikeB 02-07-2006 05:47 PM

do new journal entries = new threads? is it possible to start a simultaneous thread and journal entry and have the comments be reflective?

StuartDH 02-11-2006 09:03 AM

Hi,

Will it be possible to run this with the new vBjournal 1.5 beta2 that's running on v3?

rrokdoka 02-11-2006 03:13 PM

This is an awesome hack! Just what i wanted to put on my forums!! The only thing that i cant get to work is my "close windows" when you click on a journal entry. When i click on it.... it just stays there nothing happens do any of you guys know how to fix that or whats wrong with that?

rrokdoka 02-11-2006 04:29 PM

hmmm... i have VbGallery on my website and when i click on the Journals page from the gallerys i get a blank sheeet.... anyone else having this problem?

snafuu 02-11-2006 08:18 PM

Okay, I have this installed. I just converted my old phpBB forum to vB, and the phpbb one had a 'blog' mod installed. I compared the databases from the vB one and the phpBB one, and they were very similar. My users really want their 'blog' posts on the new one. Is there a way I can import the phpbb one into the new vB one?

the phpbb one looks like this:

-- Table structure for table `phpbb_weblog_entries`
--

CREATE TABLE `phpbb_weblog_entries` (
`entry_id` mediumint(8) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`weblog_id` mediumint(8) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_access` tinyint(4) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_subject` varchar(60) NOT NULL default '',
`entry_text` text NOT NULL,
`bbcode_uid` varchar(10) NOT NULL default '',
`entry_mood` smallint(5) NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_currently` smallint(5) NOT NULL default '0',
`currently_text` varchar(60) NOT NULL default '',
`entry_time` int(11) NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_views` mediumint(8) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`enable_bbcode` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL default '1',
`enable_smilies` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL default '1',
`enable_html` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`memorable` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`no_replies` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_replies` mediumint(8) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_last_post_userid` mediumint(8) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_last_post_id` mediumint(8) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_poster_id` mediumint(8) NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_trackbacks` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_deleted` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
PRIMARY KEY (`entry_id`),
KEY `weblog_id` (`weblog_id`),
KEY `entry_last_post_userid` (`entry_last_post_userid`),
KEY `entry_last_post_id` (`entry_last_post_id`),
KEY `entry_poster_id` (`entry_poster_id`)
) TYPE=MyISAM;

--
-- Dumping data for table `phpbb_weblog_entries`
--

INSERT INTO `phpbb_weblog_entries` VALUES (1, 1, 1, 'SnafuMedia presents: BLOGS!', ':shock:', 'd1a5cbe5d1', -1, 5, 'Computer Screen', 1122085630, 182, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1, 48, 6, 2, 0, 0);

Here's what that one looks like: http://snafumedia.com/forum/phpBB2/weblog_entry.php?e=1

Now here's the vB Journal one just for comparison:

--
-- Table structure for table `snafo_journal_entries`
--

CREATE TABLE `snafo_journal_entries` (
`entry_id` int(10) NOT NULL auto_increment,
`journal_id` int(10) NOT NULL default '0',
`entrytitle` varchar(80) NOT NULL default '',
`entrytext` mediumtext NOT NULL,
`entrydate` int(10) NOT NULL default '0',
`ipaddress` varchar(15) NOT NULL default '',
`mood` int(10) NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_totalrating` int(15) NOT NULL default '0',
`entry_totalvotes` int(10) NOT NULL default '0',
`private` tinyint(4) NOT NULL default '0',
`allowbuddies` tinyint(4) NOT NULL default '0',
`whocanview` varchar(150) NOT NULL default '',
`entry_active` tinyint(4) NOT NULL default '0',
`allowedusers` mediumtext,
`np` text NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (`entry_id`),
KEY `journal_id` (`journal_id`)
) TYPE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=7 ;

--
-- Dumping data for table `snafo_journal_entries`
--

INSERT INTO `snafo_journal_entries` VALUES (1, 1, 'Way to go...', 'Three cheers for Snafu...\r\n\r\nHip-hip Horray!\r\nHip-hip Horray!\r\nHip-hip Horray!\r\n\r\nbsb', 1139504972, '68.197.152.61', 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, '', 1, '', '');

from: http://snafumedia.com/snafo/journal....howjournal&j=1

There's only a couple dozen people who actually use the blog/journal thing, so It would be easy for me to relate one blog ID to a user ID.

ideas?

Thanks.

Hey everyone, I tried installing this hack:

When I click on "Visit *My* Journal", i go to a new page and get this error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_PRIVATE, expecting ']' in /home/tnet/public_html/forum/journal.php(978) : eval()'d code on line 48

Sound familar to anyone? Suggestions, thanks. Either post back here or pm me.

I've been working on my profile page, getting it to go with that "myspace" theme" started lastnight and picking away at it

http://www.tunernetwork.com/forum/member.php?u=2

Barteken 02-12-2006 03:39 PM

what does this hack do?:s not quite sure about it... some screens?

TunerNetwork 02-12-2006 03:52 PM

If i get mine working, ill post some screens. Its a journal system for your site. You can set the permissions for who can post journeys etc. Kinda like a blog system. People can tell everyone how boring their life etc. Also you can set who is allowed to read your journal

That is a php5 bug that is marked as fixed in the bug tracker, but, an update has yet to be released.

TunerNetwork 02-12-2006 04:59 PM

so, pretty much, I cant do anything about it until an update is posted?

rrokdoka 02-12-2006 05:46 PM

anyone know how to fix my issue? i cant click on vbjournal from the vBGallery.... i keep getting a blank screen when i do

ChuckH 02-12-2006 05:52 PM

Man, I wish there was some support for this one. I want to install it so badly.

Any other blogs for the profile page?

TunerNetwork 02-12-2006 06:30 PM

Anyone know how to work around that issue I posted?

TunerNetwork 02-13-2006 01:25 AM

K, I am running php 5, any fix for this or can someone help me?

* Beta 1 does not work properly with PHP 5. Problems are to be expected if you try to run this Hack with PHP 5.

snafuu 02-13-2006 04:34 AM

Mine is working great. I installed it just like it says and it works fine.

rrokdoka 02-13-2006 04:47 AM

anyone that can tell me what i need to fix from the gallery page?

Snake 02-13-2006 12:26 PM

C'mon man, where's the final version?!
