According to this post by Chris:

And yes, the new, commercial version will have a form through which users can submit quizzes, and will be subject to approval from the admin.
Chris, I am soooo psyched for this! Quizzes have been very popular on my site, and I'm thrilled to see that vb3 will have its own version soon, especially by the original creator. I hope it's not too expensive, 'cause me = poor, but I'll be happy to support you for all the hard work you've been putting into it.

One thing I haven't noticed yet (it might be earlier in the thread, my apologies for not reading too far back): will you include the add-on where people can see the newest added quizzes and/or the top quiz winners on forumhome or a nonvb page? 'Cause that one rocks. :)

sabret00the 07-14-2004 05:34 AM

oops, sorry i got so excited :o

sabret00the 07-14-2004 12:49 PM

i just realised the only reason i been waiting on this is for the store integration, is that as standard and if not, would you be willing to add it for an additional fee?

any chances of this in the future thought chris?

Oh. I thought you'd meant something different. In that case, yeah, it can be done...but I imagine you'd need different templates not only for each result, but for each quiz, too. It's not quite as simple as that one statement, since the script supports more than one quiz.

I think I'd be available for that, yeah. If it's just a few queries to update a point total in a table upon completion of a quiz, it probably wouldn't cost much, either.

It won't cost too much, and I'm glad to hear you're excited. I'll add you to the list I'm going to notify once it's been properly tested (taking place as we speak).

Can you link me to that? I may or may not have seen it. Either way, it soundds like a relatively simple add-on.

Eh... you might as well put me on that list, too. :)

Ghostsuit 07-16-2004 02:25 PM

Yeah stick me on the list too :)

Many thanks! Can't wait. :)

Sure -- and yep, you even responded to the thread, heh. :D Here's the link to the addon by Martin64. I think I was the one who requested this way back when, actually!

sabret00the 07-19-2004 07:27 AM

any news yet?

TWTCommish 07-19-2004 04:13 PM

This is just about ready for release. I had a forum owner test it for me, spotted a few bugs, and have fixed almost all of them. There are a few minor formatting changes, and then it should be ready to go. I will post here and PM all of you as soon as it's ready; either tonight, or else Wednesday.

Thanks again for your patience, everyone.

kira 07-20-2004 06:35 AM

No, thank you for your fast work -- and for that matter, for creating this ingenious hack in the first place. Can't wait to see the new version!

sabret00the 07-20-2004 07:39 AM

i had a look at it on one of the test sites, it's droolworthy, can't wait to install it :D

TWTCommish 07-20-2004 02:41 PM

I've got another person quasi-testing this. I'm confident that any bugs left are minor, and mostly cosmetic. I should be releasing this tomorrow; I'll start a new thread and post the link to it here, as well as PM those who asked to be notified of updates.

In regards to kira's questions about that plugin; yes, I think I can whip something up. I'd like to release the hack first, though, and then release the add-on in that thread (no charge, of course...that'd be gouging). But it shouldn't be any problem to release something relatively simple to display a recent quiz or the hardest quiz on the forum main page.

<a href="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=44279" target="_blank">https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=44279</a> heres how easy it was for the last store point system and quiz hack (your one)

Erwin 07-22-2004 12:24 AM

When I was running this with vB2, I had this integrated with my own points system. :)

People had to use up points to play a quiz, and each answer they got right, they got points too.

I look forward to doing the same with the vB3 version. :)

TWTCommish 07-23-2004 12:28 PM

No, as I stated before (I believe), I won't be including integration with other hacks in the standard release; wouldn't really be "standard" if I did. I'm open to certain modifications after the hack's release (today, hopefully), and available for hire if the modifications are particularly significant or complicated, but at this point I'd really just like to get the basic script polished and released.

Areku 07-26-2004 09:15 PM

Waaaaahooo! Finally! Up 'n running on Vb3!! ;) Yeeeha!

I must admit both installation and upgrade were smooth as silk!!!

Cool new featurettes inside!!! ;) Go for it!

fechten 07-27-2004 12:29 PM

Got the Quiz up and running on VB3 today. Rocks! Thanks for a great hack Chris.

Yes it has.

It has some bugs i'm trying to determine if it's my board fault or hacks fault.

Fechten, can you check if you can create correctly QUIZZEs via the USER interface??

Thanks.

kaotic 07-27-2004 04:59 PM

There are a few minor bugs on 3.0.3 boards since the hack was seemingly tested on 3.0.1, but nothing disastrous. It's a most excellent hack and I do not regret the purchase. :)

TWTCommish 07-27-2004 04:59 PM

Actually, I did track down one of the bugs you mentioned Areku; did you get my message about the fix?

TWTCommish and I are bughunting it lately ;)

nineball 07-27-2004 09:16 PM

Pm received

AnhTuanCool 07-27-2004 09:37 PM

Really cool hacks, thx ;)

Erwin 07-29-2004 03:40 PM

A couple of major bugs:

1) A user submitting a quiz does not pass his or her description.

2) When editing a quiz, you erase the user's userid.

A couple of suggestions:

1) Ability to upload image by user.

2) Ability for user to set time limit.

Erwin 07-29-2004 03:52 PM

Okay, to fix the edit quiz username being deleted problem,

In admin_quiz.php,

Find:

PHP Code:

      if ($quiz[image] && $image_name && !$replaceconfirm) {

$author get_userid($author);

Replace with:

PHP Code:

        $author get_userid($author);
      if (
$quiz[image] && $image_name && !$replaceconfirm) {

Erwin 07-29-2004 03:53 PM

To add the standard editor templates to the cache, and saving many queries when a user submit a quiz, change the actiontemplate code to this in quiz.php:

PHP Code:

// pre-cache templates used by specific actions
$actiontemplates = array(
'addquiz' => array(

'editor_clientscript',

'editor_jsoptions_font',

'editor_jsoptions_size',

'editor_smilie_wysiwyg',

'editor_smilie_standard',

'editor_smiliebox',

'editor_smiliebox_category',

'editor_smiliebox_row',

'editor_smiliebox_straggler',

'editor_smiliemenu_category',

'editor_smiliemenu_smilie',

'editor_toolbar_wysiwyg',

'editor_toolbar_standard'
'newpost_disablesmiliesoption',
    ),
);

Erwin 07-29-2004 04:13 PM

Fixed the WYSIWYG description problem for user submit - before, all user submitted descriptions were blank.

In quiz.php.

Find:

PHP Code:

require_once('./includes/functions_editor.php');

Replace with:

PHP Code:

$vboptions['allowvbcodebuttons'] = '1';
require_once(
'./includes/functions_editor.php');

Then find:

PHP Code:

require_once('./includes/functions_wysiwyg.php');
$quiz_description convert_wysiwyg_html_to_bbcode($_POST['WYSIWYG_HTML']);

Replace with:

PHP Code:

// require_once('./includes/functions_wysiwyg.php');
$quiz_description $message

Erwin 07-29-2004 04:15 PM

By the way, my fixes are for the vB3 version, not the vB2 version. :)

Erwin 07-29-2004 05:10 PM

To allow members to submit time limit is easy to do too.

Only template mods needed, since the code is already in quiz.php

In quiz_add template,

Find:

HTML Code:

                $vbphrase[category]:<br />
                <select name="quiz_catid">
                  $catbits
                </select>
              </td>
            </tr>

Below add:

HTML Code:

            <tr>
              <td width="100%" class="smallfont"><br />
                  Time limit per question in seconds:<br />
                  <input type="text" class="bginput" name="quiz_timelimit" size="5" maxlength="5" tabindex="1" />
              </td>
            </tr>

Then in quiz_add_questions template, find:

HTML Code:

  <input type="hidden" name="quiz_description" value="$quiz_description">
Below add:

HTML Code:

  <input type="hidden" name="quiz_timelimit" value="$quiz_timelimit">
Done!

I used to run this hack in my vb2.x board, now I run vb3.01. is there a vb3.0 version of this hack?

An improved, vB 3.0-compatible version will be available for sale sometime in the next few weeks, however.

Nevermind. I would love it if someday I actually read the threads prior to posting message.

TWT, any luck on a due date for this?

NietzscheKid 07-29-2004 08:51 PM

Hello,

I am also interested in this quiz. I will send you a pm?

kaotic 07-29-2004 09:05 PM

Thanks for the fixes, Erwin.

PS:
bitg: There already is a vB3 version, but its not for free. Contact the author for more info.
