Tim aint got nothin to teach that allows the bot to learn, i have been along the ride with this mod for almost a year now, and he doesn't have anything for it..........seem's what he is doing is sparking interest on certian (easily built mods), then tries to redirect all of the vborg peeps to his site listed above, hoping to get you to buy his um, mods.....

I personally had given him access to my system and he tried messing around with code he said should work, and it didn't do anything...........All this bot does at this point is take up space..........

Everything seems to work great except when i post i get this error on the "Thank you for posting, this will redirect you soon" screen

OK i think i understand my problems now. It seems for that error you need "allow_url_fopen=on" some where...ive read both in .htaccess and php.ini

But on my website there are lot of .htaccess files and i cant find any php.ini file

As far as the "I cannot connect to the the database" thing, it seems that i need that allow_url_fopen=on added for it to work. Im talking to my provider to see if he can change that. Ill post back if i have any news.

The only way to make TalkerBot smarter is by more aiml files. They can be found at http://www.alicebot.org/downloads/sets.html

Then, you have to re-run alice\src\admin\botloader.php to update the database.

I don't get why so many people are complaining about the lack of ability for it to learn.

I installed this about 2 months ago and made absolutely no changes to any of the files, and it works exceptionally well. It now has the ability to associate my members with what vehicles they drive. I recently had a regular member just say hello to the bot and it replied by asking her about her cobra mustang. (which is what she drives)

I think what the problem is that you guys don't give it enough time to learn. It has to have frequent interaction with other members in order for it to learn. It learns very slowly, but it does learn quite well with no modifications made to any of the provided files. Also, if you isolate it to one forum it seems to work better.

cause' on my browser it said done
and when i try to talk to the bot, i got the error "can't not connect to the database"

Looks like you did'nt let it finish loading, takes about 30mins and runs through all the aiml files. @Having said that, i got a similar reply at first but it seems ok now..

Sorry , you are wrong. I run it on a 60,000 member site and it has had plenty of time to learn. It does learn , but not for long. You can come back the next day and it wont recognize you or anything you have taught it.

Support is zero and the author doesnt even have decency to make any further posts in this thread. I have seen him do the same thing with previous mods , so its my own fault for thinking he had changed his ways.

I am more interested in uninstalling this now , its a very much pointless addon that could have been very good. I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has uninstalled and removed it as to exactly how they went about it and what they removed.

no, it said done on the browser when that happened
i try it five times on 3 different comps and 3 different connection

I'm getting the following message running the botloader.php script:

that is interesting. it works just find for me on vb 3.6.5

it learns and retains the data from day to day. and you can see where it adds responses to it's file.

I tried to install the bot, but the Instruction / Howto, I do not understand, I tried the steps, but I guess Im to stupid to get it work.

So here is what I did :

1. Uploaded the files
2. CHMOD 777
3. Created a user "Sharon"
4. Run the /alice/src/admin/botloader.php
5. Got no errors

Then I made the test, but I get a BLANK screen.

Finally I do not understand where I have to configure the bot ?

Any help woul be appreciate, thanks guys :)

From what I've gathered, Tim is supposed to be working on a new version of this hack (to be released on HIS site) that will fix a number of such issues, as well as actually having a "learning" ability, which he mislead us into believing this one had....."This bot will learn overtime slowly from your users posts."- this is completely false!!.... However there is no knowing when, or even if, this new version will be completed. I've been waiting for 2 months for it now:(.

I've done a lot a research into the ALICE system since downloading this hack (never did get it to run on my server, but runs from my computer fine) The bot will learn, on a "short term" basis, by using cookies stored on each users computer. You can teach the bot on a more "long term" level, but you need to learn how the aiml files are set up, and how to create more. This is a fairly easy language to learn, and there is a lot of support on how to do so, available from the 'ALICE foundation' is self. I have successfully created several of my own aiml files, as well as located many through the foundation.

Would LOVE if some one would pick up this hack, and develop it more. I'm not very good at designing hacks, other wise I would do it myself hehe. If some one did decide to pick this up though, I'd be more than happy to help supply more AIML files, as well as custom ones I've done myself, including a VBulletin "how to/support" file, allowing the bot to run basically as a tech support personality for forum users (coping mostly the FAQ, and adding several more complicated questions as well) :)

Opps! It still work with 3.6.8, but I am not sure if this bot still be able to create a new thread (or did I misunderstand here?). Don't really know how this bot work. lol!

If I didnt already suggest it or ask about it, is there one straight text file we can go in to to set all the basics of the bot,like it's name, fav color, gender, fav food., etc, without having to edit tables in the database. Like just an aiml file we could later and upload

I think if your post sis too long it gives this answer. If you ask it one short question, like "How are you?" or "What is your name?" it will respond. (should - lol )

Unofficial Uninstallation Instructions: (first make a backup of your database!)

1. Uninstall the product in Product Manager (won't do much since no uninstall instructions are in the xml file, but still recommended)

2. Drop these tables from your database (for example using PhpMyAdmin):
  • bot
  • bots
  • conversationlog
  • dstore
  • gmcache
  • gossip
  • patterns
  • templates
  • thatindex
  • thatstack
3. Delete the "alice" folder from your forum root directory and the "ewt_talkerbot.php" file from your forum root directory.

4. Delete the user you created for the bot. You can also delete the bot's posts if you want to.

I have tried this on my own forum after making a backup and everything still works fine.

Great post OS Master, i wish vbulletin.org would lock this thread so other's will stop trying to use it. It doesn't learn and it take's alot of bandwidth from your server. This is just my .02 on closing this dead modification.

Those that insist on trying to use this mod, please follow OS Master's step's when you go to uninstall it from your site.
