(Hoping for update on the vb3 integration) :)

I am still offering you the money i mentioned earlier in this thread. Our site is called http://www.99mac.se/ and were dedicated to Mac (in Swedish...).

We use vb quiz for testing our members in Macintosh knowledge (how many USB-ports does the original imac have - what is the name of Steve Jobs' wife) :)

Sure thing. :)

Simply put, I've got a mostly-working vB3-compatible version up and running, admin integration included, with all the same features as the 2.x version, as well as a few more.

I'm going to be putting a fair amount of time into it over the next few days, and the coming weekend. I'll be surprised if I don't have a working, tested vB Quiz for vB3 completed within a few weeks, at most.

lmongello 05-27-2004 12:29 AM

Thanks, TWT!! I (we) appreciate the hard work and effort, as well as keeping us apprised of your status!

any update on this?

TWTCommish 06-09-2004 08:46 PM

Yes. After a brief break to attend to some other things, I've begun working on this again in the last couple of days. Most of the work has revolved around creating the new quiz templates, which are mostly finished, but still need some work. The basic core of the script is done, and has been for a couple of weeks; you can create quizzes, users can take them, and see their results. Most of rhe work left falls under the following headings:
  • Fine-tuning (and reworking parts of) the admin script
  • Modifying and eventually finalizing the default quiz templates
  • Making the final decision as to which features to include with the original, standard release of the hack
Two things that have not yet begun are the integration into the phrase system (shouldn't take long), and the installation script.

My plan is to sell this initially, given the fact that it has required a larger amount of work than most hacks, and a great deal of original coding. It is possible that, sometime down the line, a scaled-down free version will be released.

I'll be working on it more this week, and weekend, and likely contacting those interested in purchasing it sometime next week. Meanwhile, if anyone else is interested, please post in this thread, or PM me, and I'll update you personally when the script is ready for use.

lmongello 06-09-2004 10:55 PM

Add me to the list of interested people. Thanks!

Areku 06-17-2004 09:11 AM

^Me too :P

harman 06-17-2004 09:22 PM

I'm also interested.

Will users be able to post quizzes up for admin approval, or do mods/admins still have to do it?

lmongello 06-22-2004 05:58 PM

Any update on timetable? Thanks! :)

TWTCommish 06-22-2004 06:49 PM

Still tough to say. The templates are probably 90-95% done, the upgrade script is about 85% finished, and most of the new features are about done, too.

And yes, the new, commercial version will have a form through which users can submit quizzes, and will be subject to approval from the admin.

We're probably looking at another week or two.

sabret00the 06-24-2004 09:51 PM

i am most definately interested in purchasing this, btw is their a option in this where you can have the standard (vb2) show results screen and an enhance quiz +++++ results screen to quizzes (i.e. you got 80% that makes you a blah blah blah, post this code in your journal).

John Crichton 06-26-2004 08:16 AM

Does this work on the lastest version of VB??

latest vb2 or vb3?

John Crichton 06-27-2004 08:03 AM

version 3.0.1

sabret00the 06-27-2004 09:52 AM

then the answer would be no, this is for version 2.2.X

John Crichton 06-27-2004 12:12 PM

is there a quiz hack for 3.0.1?

TWTCommish 06-28-2004 03:20 AM

No, not yet. Which is what we've been discussing for the last several pages. :)

An improved, vB 3.0-compatible version will be available for sale sometime in the next few weeks, however.

Silverdawn222 06-28-2004 01:23 PM

For sale, bah... means I won't be able to get it. Ah well. I hope someone will make a free version. :)

lmongello 07-02-2004 03:50 AM

Any under-development screenshots to post??? :)

Areku 07-02-2004 08:04 AM

Yeah pleeeeeeeeeeez!

thedentist 07-02-2004 01:47 PM

I'm also interested.

I am interested in the (for pay) script as it was very popular on my forums before I moved to vB3.

Thanks for the work you're putting into this.

You guys have been wonderfully patient, so I'll grant your request, and give you a peek...

Erwin 07-05-2004 02:53 AM

Very very very cool. :)

I'd be interested in this when it is released. :) Let me know.

sabret00the 07-05-2004 07:06 AM

and also can i repeat this question

I'm not really sure what the question means, to be honest.

As for ETA...it depends on too many other things. If this were all I did with my time, it'd have been done a couple weeks ago. If my other responsibilities keep me busy, it could be another week and a half to two weeks. If not, maybe by the end of the week. I'm not sure yet. Sorry...that's as specific as I can accurately get.

sabret00the 07-05-2004 03:37 PM

that's ok and i'll re-ask the question clearer with another in addition

will there be quizzes where you can answer with a text box instead of an option?

and will we be able to make quizzes with personalised finishing screens. i.e. "you got 90% you are the one, you entered the internet and quickly renamed yourself neo" you know like most online quizzes.

No; way too complicated, for now. There'd be tons of issues to deal with...capitalization, spelling. Basically, to work realistically it'd have to give the admin the ability to list multiple answers which would be acceptable (IE: if the question was "Who was the 21st President of the United States?", it'd never do to have the answer be "Chester A. Arthur" -- you'd need to make Arthur, Chester Arthur, Chester A Arthur, and Chester A. Arthur all acceptable).

So, it's do-able, but that's more likely to be in a future release, along with a few other ambitious ideas.

No, not at this point. The results page is roughly the same as it was in 1.0; the changes have been in templates, settings and phrases, and in a few new features, which some of you may or may not have noticed from the screenshots I posted earlier. ;)

wouldn't it just be as simple as a search function, [high]if FIELDXX containts "XXXXX" then correct else wrong[/high] type thing

No, because, as I mentioned, almost any text-based user input will have many possible variations, all of which could conceivably be "right." Also, the answer table and temporary answer tables would have to be modified, and the function which grades the quiz would need to be reworked, too. Sadly, it's just not as simple as it sounds. If it was, I probably would've done it already.

sabret00the 07-05-2004 04:27 PM

sorry to hear that would've made an awesome feature, well if you plan do decide to add it to 3.0 then i'll definately be wnating to upgrade.

TWTCommish 07-05-2004 04:56 PM

I do hope to add it at some point, but the hack's taken awhile anyway and I'd hate to keep all these people waiting too much longer. Just gonna fix some of the bugs and try to go from there. But I'll definitely add it to the to-do list for future versions.

sabret00the 07-05-2004 05:08 PM

that's good to hear, i mean no one wants this more than me, it's the only thing i'm left waiting on in order to upgrade my site to vb3

Cool. I noticed a timer for a question. Will the hack only allow setting time by question, or will there be a feature to set a time limit for the entire quiz?

Craig

Not directly, but sort of. The hack will allow you to set a default limit with each quiz, and then a specific limit for each question. If you give the quiz a limit of 10, the user will have 10 seconds to answer each question...but if you enter a limit for a specific question, that time will override the quiz's limit.

Time limits for the entire quiz are a little trickier (I'm not the JavaScript maven I'd like to be), but among the possibilities for future versions.

sabret00the 07-13-2004 08:02 AM

for the results bit, this kinda shows you what i'm on about

Yeah, I see what you mean. That's beyond the scope of this particular hack. A pretty sizable portion of it would have to be re-written to work that way. As it stounds now many portions of the hack rely on set numbers and the like. If I were to create a hack like that, it'd probably be off on it's own.

Anyway, I've finished all the major issues I can think of with this hack, and have begun some light testing. Unless the testing uncovers some major problems (unlikely), it should be done by the end of the week.

sabret00the 07-13-2004 06:06 PM

see i'm a dreamer thought it could've been done as simply as
PHP Code:

if ($quizresultsstyle == new)
{
if (
$score 60% and $score 80%)
{
eval(
'$quizresults .= "' fetch_template('quiz_resultstwo') . '";');
}

any chances of this in the future thought chris?
