yeah i fixed that sunday night, i just haven't had time to upload 2.0.4. in fact, i'll do that now.

NEW ZIP/RELASE:
Groups v2.0.4.zip: bug fix regarding not being able to moderate group memberships.

deleted, reloaded all files. Tried to run the installer again, using default as path. /..forums/. This time i get this error.

Strange but good. Groups is now work with the exception of some images, other then that all seems to be working and linking perfectly despite the above error?.

LTaylor, sorry i haven't responded to your problems yet. i do plan to go through the thread and attack your problems personally, i've just been incredibly short on time. as of your last port, you didn't uninstall the tables so they're still in existence. if you leave it there, when i get home (i have to run out) i'll get onto your problems as they were last time and try and help you out.

Actually, LTaylor, what's your problem exactly, having just checked out your board, your images are working, your groups appears to be working (from a guests PoV). what's not working? (sorry if this sounds wrong, i'm i a rush and so my phrasing seems quite erratic and aggressive).

Finally, I was able to get the installer going and yes, all is working beautifully. However, my problem now is that when I am on the index just4parrots/groups and when on the index you go to click your usercp, or any of the other links on the navbar, they do not take me to the location they should. 404 Errors.

What do I need to do ?

Should be a option in the config grps file for rewrite links .. make sure it's set to TRUE .. unless you have the links manually defined like i did. Then set it to false

Sorry you lost me? I want to delete threads that have been created by groups how do I do that when there is no option to delete a chosen thread.

There is a Moderation option at the bottom of each thread with the option to delete.

Do the posts from these groups get indexed in the site's database?

When you click the 'view new posts' button, will you see posts from the groups included in the results?

For people who have installed it, how is it working with your members? Are they liking it? Using it frequently?

Does it slow down posting in the main boards? I worry that this might get members all posting in their own groups, and then the board in general suffers and doesn't get the posts or activity that it used to?

Has it created a problem with 'cliques' getting worse (because all boards have cliques to begin with)

Do you find yourself with more complaints from members re: the groups? (she kicked me out, they are saying mean things in group x, so and so wont let me into their group)

Any chance posts in the group system could count towards a user's total postcount?

in your admincp, where all the menu items are, you'll find one called "Groups". within that, you'll find these options

"General Settings
Category Editor (Edit)
Category Editor (Add)
Category Editor (Delete)
Groups Editor (Edit)
Groups Editor (Delete)".

you're looking for the second one down.

Just realized this thread is 61 pages long, it needs a forum in the premium mods :P

I've found that if I set a usergroup to where they can edit messages they actually don't get the edit button. Seems like it only works for administrators usergroups.

I have two problems and one question.

Problems are the gradiant is missing as seen in the attachment, I would also like to remove the nav bar also in the picture. I have no need for it in the groups how can I fix these?


Question:

1. Pictures, how many can I have? these aer the ones in the groups that rotate at the top.
2. Can I use a custom image for each group?
3. Can I use HTML or BB CODE in the group description?
4. Indexing, groups is that possibale?

gyankow, I have brought that to his attention. He said he is looking into it and I am looking into a fix for it so I can post it here for everyone till sabret00the can get an update released.

If you have custom images in your style then GRPS will not pick up on them correctly so you either gotta put the full url path to the image or download your images folder then upload to /groups/

Need to know how I can get the columns changed from 3 to 2 or make it so they are in a table instead of div tags.

This is a long thread and it's late, so please forgive me if my questions are already asked/answered...

(1) Can I make groups not allowed to be hidden and/or private?

(2) There is a typo on the main group page. In the left column, under the Group Leader info, instead of "Category" it says "Gateogory" -- where do I go to fix that?

(3) When an invite is sent, the screen with the confirmation message actually says "grps_invitesent" instead of the message it should say. I'm new to vB and don't know where I can edit language files (if that's what they are in vB) to correct this.

(4) Where/how do I change the images shown by default?

(5) Is there a way to control how many characters can be used in the intro?

That's all I have for now, but so far, great, and my members are very excited about it!

Couple of questions:

- Can I restrict who can start or join a group by using 'post count'? In other words, I'd like to restrict STARTING a group to members with at least 50 posts. Joining a group would be restricted to members with at least 20 posts. Is that possible?

- Can the GROUP ACTIVITY information be 'syndicated' onto non-vb pages? I would like to have a 'box' on a non-vb page on my domain which displays dynamic information about active groups.

I would like to see a nice add-on to list the newest and/or hottest groups listed for vbportal.

I'm baffled that you never mention that one has to manually edit the user group permissions after you've installed this. I mean, why not add a line that says as much? I thought I'd lost my mind trying to figure out why the proggy wasn't working.

A great hack. Some notes on problems/bugs I've noticed or which have been reported to me by users:

1) The navigation breadcrumbs don't work (broken links leading to non-existent pages). Note that groups is not level with the forum directory, but within it. I've tried changing that setting in the AdminCP to no effect.

2) When I click the Quote button to respond to a post, it brings up a blank reply form with no quoting. There's no normal reply button in group forums. When I try to quote, I get a blank reply page (so you could also say there's no quote function and the reply function has a quote button).

3) Same thing happens when you do a preview.

4) I started a thread and when I tried to post a new response in that thread and it simply appended it to the original post. I tested another thread and found that if you reply to someone elses post, it'll put a new response under theres. But if you reply and then reply again, with no other posts in between, it simply appends your reply to your previous post.

5) If I click on "Go Advanced" under the quick reply feature, then I get the following error message:

7) The sidebar telle me that "Type: Group Posts Are Private. Members Are Moderated. Only The Group Leader Can Make Threads.", yet a non-group leader can create threads.

And my thoughts on necessary changes/additions to make this a professional mod:

1) The default image in the group header needs to be sorted out and user-definable. Lots of people have suggested that in this thread, and there's a reason for that.

2) The wacky moderation/group leader powers setup needs to be straightened up. It's not only unintuitive, but it's impractical. As many have pointed out in this thread, the group leader should effectively be moderator of his/her own blog.

3) The ability to remove users is pretty fundamental. A woman created a private girls only group, and while she was struggling to figure out how to make it private, a man joined. Now he can't be removed.

I know that sounds all very critical, but I do think this is a very good hack and well on its way to being as professional as, say, vBlogetin.

Hi I am trying to make a search groups code to go on the groups home page.

I would like for it to be a drop down box where they can choose the catagory and then underneath a text box were they can refine their search with a search term.

So far this is the code I have, though, while the drop down is working the extra refining is not. Any help would be greatly appreciated....
