I set this up on my site, So if they come in with a proxy, I will be redirecting them to the regular site.
I dont think spiders would have trouble.. why would they? |
Well I hope your "regular site" isn't the one that was mentioned before the edit LMAO. Lucky for me I'd already heard of it, so no chance of going there!
Anyways, it does seem the hack was updated to take account of spiders - they do seem able to index my site. Unfortunately it appears to redirect all AOL users and I think there's a few other providers that use proxies as a matter of course. Personally I think this hack is a great idea, and it's the providers who use proxies that suck. If this could be set up only to catch people who use proxies by choice, then it would get a MOTM nomination from me! Sadly, isosdcftp who released this hasn't been online here since last October, so unless anyone else can establish exactly what it redirects and what it doesn't, then it isn't worth the risk of alienating the few genuine people who may have no choice but to accept a proxy IP from their service provider. Back to the bad old days of checking proxy listings whenever a new member signs up I guess. :erm: |
I've re-enabled this and (so far) it seems to working as intended (now marked as Installed). It redirects web proxies, but none of my members has reported any problems. The site is still being indexed, and my Google Adsense appears unaffected. (I'm still using 3.6.5 btw).
I found I only have to check or uncheck the plug-in to enable or disable it. |
I have this going after being trolled relentlessly of late, and so far so good. It's really creating a decent amount of work for the troublemakers trying to get in.

I never had any trouble with this hack till today, one guy cannot use the site. Its frustrating because I have to dump an otherwise great hack.... *sigh* It should have an "ignore IP" or something to let certain ppl in.

I ask because I've had no negative feedback (so far). The modification is catching web proxies, but I've had no reports of redirection from anyone using a genuine IP address. Although it blocks web proxies from using the site it doesn't prevent them sending Email if there's a problem with a genuine account. If a regular IP service is being blocked, would you mind telling me/us which it is? |
I dont know if this has been pointed out or not, I installed this worked nicely ez to install and everything. I checked a bunch of proxy sites and it works great. However if someone is searching for your website on google or stumbles upon an interesting post and wants to enter your site through google or any other search engine, it stopes them from viewing it saying proxies are not allowed on this site.... So i uninstalled it for that reason alone. Otherwise a great mod despite it blocking "honest" users using search engines and wherever else your site is linked.
hope that made sense :/ |
LOL, this mod rocks! Thank you!
