Most asked question:

Q:I've installed your sidebar mod and it works fine except on the forumhome! The sidebar is showing at the bottom of the page. Any idea how to fix it?

A:It is either due to one of these:
1. you are using a custom style that is changing the forumhome look.
2. You are using a nother mod that is changing the content of froumhome before this ESB.

ESB needs to see this in forumhome
PHP Code:

<div id="pagetitle"

So to tix this problem you either need to make sure that
PHP Code:

<div id="pagetitle"

exist in the correct location or change ESB forumhome plugin to search for a new phrase.

for the latest version 1.4.1+ it looks for
PHP Code:

{vb:raw navbar

so if you are setting new style make sure not to remove or change
PHP Code:

{vb:raw navbar

location to get sidebar in the proper location.

Again as I stated I only added a navigation bar to the header template. Of course if this were the case (because I modified the header template) then it would work in the default vb theme which has not been modified in any way, however it does not. I have gone ahead and allowed user selection to choose that theme so you can see for yourself that this has nothing to do with my styles which is what I have been trying to say, nor is it due to any mods as I disabled them all and the problem still existed (they have since been re-enabled).

It will not show on the first page of the profile as there is a default sidebar on that page and it will conflict with it. Other pages are ok.

I would gues it is due the size of the sidebar width it seems to be to much wide.

If you changed sidebar width before try to narrow it a bit.

Or it is due to one of the block that is forcing the sidebar to be wider.

txsbmw 01-11-2011 03:53 PM

So is this a bug because on all other pages it shows just fine. It is only forum home that it is doing this? Also if I disable your mod the sidebar shows just fine on forum home (granted it does not show anywhere else). And I am not sure what you mean by a block forcing the sidebar to be wider. If you are talking about the advertisments they are fluid and will stack on top of each other (it is dependant on how wide the sidebar is, so that would not be an issue).

I also did not have this problem before upgrading to the 1.4.1 version of this mod. Also, I did not change the default settings for the vbulletin default style so that should not be an issue.

But to just verify that it is neither of those issues. I changed the default vb style to show only a 150px sidebar and only default vb blocks are enabled. You can see for yourself that neither of those are the issue.

Damsella 01-11-2011 03:53 PM

My problem is that, having upgraded to VB 4.1, and the latest version of Everywhere Sidebar, in IE8 only Forum Home is showing the sidebar properly, all the other sections are showing it at the bottom beneath the content. But it shows fine in Firefox.

LOL me and you have our issues opposite. Mine shows everywhere else fine but on forum home it is at the bottom!

Damsella 01-11-2011 04:14 PM

Yes, completely the opposite! Lol.

I'd love to get it working, as it was working fine until I uninstalled, upgraded VB and then reinstalled the latest version of Everywhere Sidebar.

Your style not the default vb style

RichieBoy67 01-11-2011 04:25 PM

This has worked perfect for me..I believe many if not all of these problems are due to people not following the instructions completely or not reading the entire release where all of these things are mentioned.. There are steps to take occasionally if you have a custom page or style..

If you are upgrading you have to uninstall the previous version first or it will not display correctly..it is all there if you take 5 minutes and read it..

This is an outstanding mod..

Damsella 01-11-2011 04:28 PM

I realise my style has been adapted a bit, but it's the original default style and it was working fine until I uninstalled Sidebar Everywhere, upgraded to VB CMS and installed the latest Sidebar Everywhere.

If I revert all the styles, do you think it will display correctly? But other people are not using the default style and not having this problem!

You don't need to revert the styles, just reinstall the default vb style and look at your site with that style. If you still have the same issue it is not your style.

Trevor Matthews 01-11-2011 05:35 PM

Many thanks, that was just what I needed for my forum.
Worked perfectly!

You're right almannai. Thanks for the tip. One more thing, is it possible to remove that line of copyright "everywhere sidebar 1.4.1"?

I have changed to the default VB4 style, and it now works!!

Only issue I have is the sidebar is now higher than the main forum. Any fix for this?

PossumX 01-12-2011 12:42 AM

Why does line 25 of the product xml file have the reference to ./clientscript/vbulletin-sidebar2.js?

There is no vbulletin-sidebar2.js file, and this induces a behind the scenes 404 error, that is not visible in the browser.

Code:

<script type="text/javascript" src="{vb:raw vboptions.bburl}/clientscript/vbulletin-sidebar2.js?v={vb:raw vboptions.simpleversion}">

Good luck

I am having the same issue. I don't quite understand what you mean about the css file - what should I do, exactly?

Many thanks for all your help!

To Adjust sidebar top level:

form admincp

open forumhome.css in the style you want to change or use the master style to effect all styles

change the padding size for #sidebar_container as you wish
eg
padding:50px 0;

This doesn't work for me (4.1 PL2). I put this in the bottom of forumhome.css and I see the code show up in Firebug, but its crossed out and overridden by the same CSS that must be occuring later in the code stream. Any idea what other template it may occur in?

mccollin 01-12-2011 04:16 PM

Also, anyone using this with 4.1.1 yet?

Its the code in sidebar.css that is overriding what is in forumhome.css for #sidebar_container. Is sidebar.css part of vbulletin, or is that something from this add-on?

You don't have to add anything it is there you just need to change its value
Pls read the mod thread carefully all the information is in the main thread

Here is my forumhome.css. There is no "sidebar_container" in it. This is 4.1PL2 reverted template.

}
.forumbit_nopost .forumrowdata {

My problem is not the top level. My problem, as is shown in those shots, is that on the Forum Home page the text is next to the avatars, but on every other part of the site the text is under the avatars.

still you didn't read my directions above here is it again (see the last line):

To Adjust sidebar top level:

form admincp

open forumhome.css in the style you want to change or use the master style to effect all styles

change the padding size for #sidebar_container as you wish
eg
padding:50px 0;
Note:In the new vb versions sidebar css has been moved from forumhome.css to separate file called sidebar.css

smnet 01-15-2011 01:37 AM

almannai, editing the sidebar.css template works well for forumhome.... however, the alignment is breaking in other pages - this is an unmodded stock board.

the container will require different padding depending on the page you are viewing. Worse still, the padding required also varies between FF, IE and Safari

Hope this helps

Hello
I wanted to know how I change the width of the side bar
Upon entering the forum on small screens open side bar can not see well the forum

I decided that if I take off about 30 pixels to see the forum and the better side bar

I'd love to get an answer from where I reduced the width of the side bar

Thanks

It is what you have inside, the sideblock that has to be changed...not the sidebar.. I always use % for width of sideblocks instead of pixels.. That way they adjust to different size viewing..

You probably have to pay a fee to have the copyright info removed..Not sure though..anyhow, yeah, check your sideblocks and change the width there..

I believe this was in the instructions in the mod release.. It is in the admincp--forums/moderation--at the bottom you will see forumblocks I believe its called..

When I said the blocks though that could mean going into the templates and editing the specific forumblock template for that specific block, css or even the file depending on what kind of a block it is..some custom blocks may have the code right there in the menu but it is unlikely..

What is the block that is too wide?

demonfatal 01-15-2011 05:30 PM

almannai, your last product version 1.4.1_pl1 is not working with Lynne's product "Block - Users Online", please can you check why?

-> Error occurs within ALL releases of this mod, INCLUDING the latest release. I tested them one at a time today for verification.
-> Error Occurs in Multiple Browsers: tested in Chrome, IE7, IE8, FF 3.6.3, Opera 10.61
-> also tested on Ipod & Blackberry

Unfortunately, it's not happening to just 1 person, it's happening to MANY people.

It appears that this error occurs whenever anyone views the everywhere sidebar with a Screen Resolution of 800x600 or lower (which means that it screws with peoples ability to view the sites on mobile devices as well.)

I tried changing stylevar> Forum Sidebar Width> to a % rather than px - but changing that causes the sidebar not to display At All.
