Still love this mod,...

Just installed AME 2.5 on my new setup with vB3.8.

Noticed an error while doing the following,...

Database errors, when using (Tools - Rebuild) for vbBlogs, group messages, visitor messages or signatures.

Using this feature for posts seems to work good.

I have,..

vB Forum 3.8.0 G
Blogs 2.0 G

Basically I think the vB3.0 and BVlog2.0 seem to be the issue, as blogs, social groups are the big sql db error providers.

Thanks again.

Were Blogs, Visitor Messages and Social Groups a part of your forum prior to upgrading to 3.8? Because the only time you would run the rebuild tool for one of these functions is if you had AME installed first, and then you upgraded vB to those features. If AME is added after you already have these features, then the tables would have already been added during the initial installation.

I have had blogs installed while I succesfully used the 2.0 version of AME and using 3.7.5, and prior 3.7.4 vb.

I upgraded to blog2.0 when it became available, and it was still ok.

And social groups has been a built in feature of vb since before 3.4, but recently upgraded in 3.8.

It was with the install of AME 2.5 today, that I had to use the un-build rebuild feature of AME to re-embed the google urls properly for the ame2.5 upgrade, when I noticed this problem with the database, when using this tool on blogs and social groups.

Any help appreciated. Thanks again.

Why is not the name of all video

Only some video

If you already had Blogs and Social Groups prior to installing AME, then you shouldn't have needed to run either of those process. What was the problem with Google that you needed to run the rebuild tool?

I'd have to see the actual YouTube links to tell you why.

theothersully 01-16-2009 03:18 PM

Ok, I've installed this mod because I couldn't get custom BB code to work for YouTube videos.

I kept getting nothing - a blank when using the custom BB code.

Now, using this mod, I get the title of the video in a nice little title bar over... you guessed it!

NOTHING.

YouTube videos will not display on my 3.7 vBulletin installation.

What is up here?? Does anyone know why I can't show any videos on my site? Embedded images work just fine. Embedded videos don't.

Please help... my users are going to kill me! ha ha

Digital Jedi 01-16-2009 03:38 PM

Have you checked all your settings closely? Most common mistake folks make is to Disable New Items set to Yes in their AME CP Settings.

My mistake, I meant YouTube links.

1 - I installed the AME2.5 after everything else was up and running, but I noticed after the 2.5 install, that all the old AME links were now left in posts as just ame bbcode with urls.
They would work if I edited individual posts, but not on their own.

2 - Then I used the unbuild tool to remove the old ame links and revert them to url bbcode, and then rebuilt using same tool, which on its own process correctly made all youtube links properly render in the ame style. This was all good. Everything worked as expected.

3 - then because I had similar broken ame links in my blogs, I tried to do the same with blogs, but when I click on the rebuild tool in the ame cp, I get a database error instead, tried also with social groups, even though my social groups had no ame or youtube links to embed, but it didnt matter, same database error.

It worked as expected with just the regular forum posts, but only thing I could think of was the blogs and social groups were recently upgraded, but the ame code isnt setup to address the database of the new versions properly.

And yes, sorry, I meant youtube and not google in my prior post.

And yes, maybe I needent run the process with my social groups, but should the ame cp provde database errors anyway? I did need to run them for blogs though.

Thanks

That's what I'm saying, there is no individual setting for rebuilding links in blogs. Convert codes should do that for everything. Add Blog Support simply adds the missing colums to your database if you added your Blog AFTER you installed AME, which may be why your getting the database error (though I cant seem duplicate this).

It's possible maybe The Geek overlooked including the secondary areas when you run Convert, but I would think so. What you should try is reuploading all your files and making sure that when you upgraded you ticked the Allow overwrite to Yes. First, though, can you paste the exact database error your getting? It's in the source code.

In the AME admin cp > tools page,..this is what I have at the very top...

Hrm, looks like I didn't have that for some reason. I believe I had a development version The Geek had sent me a while back still installed. Okay, my fault. Let's see, did you run these in test and verbose mod first and not run into any problems?

Hrm, I would try reinstalling AME again, as you seem to be getting errors on the check to see if everything is installed. Re-upload the files and then reinstall AME the same way you would do as if doing an upgrade and see if it inserts the proper tables this time. Remember that your definitions will be reset to the default set.

smirkley 01-17-2009 06:36 PM

OK, did a full reinstall, and same end result.

I dont think the install is the issue atm.

Nadeemjp 01-19-2009 06:52 AM

this is a wonderful modification.
i was just wondering if it is possible to launch this officially in 3.8 as well so that i dont have to come in here again.

it is working though with 3.8 @ my forums.

I've seen this error once before, but it wasn't corrected publicly in this thread. So I'm not sure if they found a solution. The only thing I can think of at this point is that you've got a conflicting modification or the remnants of one. Have tried disabling all your modifications one by one to see if anything changes?

I hope to take time to learn the regex libs soon if it is in my grasp as I have found that the few sites I find or are sent to me are not suitable for it yet.

Let me first start by apologising for my sporadic attendance here, however my rl zaps most of my free time now and I have less time to code and/or support this project. Let me then follow up by again thanking DJ for his tireless support of this mod. If it wasn't for his support, I am sure most would agree that this mod would be as dead as a doornail (whatever the hell a dead doornail is).

Smirkley, I do seem to recall that the last 2.5 release had an issue with conversions of old blogs, social group and visitor messages. IIRC, I think I had it resolved on a local development build, however I am not keen to simply zip up what is on my dev server without really spending the time to comb back through the code to ensure there are not any loose ends left undone (its been months since I have worked on it).

The problem was that the tool would give a db error trying to do conversions of old data and no changes would be made. It in no way affected the underlying data (but of course it wouldn't convert old info into ame's either!). The rest of the system works hunky dory. New visitor messages, blog posts, etc... worked fine... (as well as edited ones) just not the conversions of old data using that particular tool.

I will try to set some time aside over the next week or so to comb back through the code and see if I can get a final release into the 3.8 forum (yes, this indeed works on 3.8). Until then, know that the system works fine - there just isn't a working tool to automatically convert old blogs, social messages and visitor messages.

Geek, I am also wishing to thank DJ and yourself and your devotion to life as well as this program. I wish to assure you for what it is worth that your work has added flavor to my life and even affored me a pleasurable day of music and a day off of RL just yesterday. It is a huge hit on our fledgling forum and getting better. I am listing to music as I type this in fact and am ever so appreciative.

I wish to add to the "usless knowledge base" for you. A door nail is that nail that is used in the top or door of an old time wooden coffin and thus the association of death.

While probably not originating in the original bird flu pandemic during WWI it certainly gained poplar usage there when often was the case in these parts that there was not enough living in communites to bury the dead. But I digress and yet again I wish to thank you for your finest code.

Should you decide at some point to drop it, I will likely hire help if possible to continue it.

Finster 01-19-2009 05:47 PM

If one has Goldbrick, and that hack is supposed to add media tags, and one switches over to AME which seems to be far more supported, will the old tags get converted? From what i read, it appears the answer is yes, but better to ask a dumb question.

Also, Highslide JS is an add-on requirement to Goldbrick, and it is a nice affect. If one disables Golbrick but keeps Highslide, I trust AME would be Highslided (or is that Highslid?) lol.

Lastly, Golbrick would allow one to upload a QT or Mov or WMV (yuck) video to their own server and paste the url to that video in a post and it would render it. I want to make surre AME does the same. Goldbrick rarely thumbnails, how good is AME?

Last dumb question, there seems to be two AME's floating around, thus confusing my pea brain.

Thanks!

Gladhatter 01-19-2009 06:00 PM

I have not seen any highslide working in my AME but it may be disabled or I may not understand. You can upload to your local server and AME will render the extentions I belive all are supported or can be with a simple edit in the cpanel. I can send you some of my cpanel what ever they are called and you can just edit them to your server info if that helps. It does not render blank spaces if render is the correct term and you need streaming names with _ or else put %20 in the blank space.

Hope this helps.

I've not personally worked with Goldbrick, but I can tell you what AME can do which might help you out. AME has a conversion tool built in, which will take existing BBCode you are using and convert the tags to it's own built in [AME] tags. So, for example, if you used to use [YOUTUBE] or [METACAFE] BBCode, you can have the conversion tool go through your posts and convert both of those tags to [AME] tags. Mind you, AME tags are not neccessary for new posts to embed, just older posts.

AME does not use Highslide and would not affect AME videos. They would all be embedded. There's a number of reaons why, such as AME embeds more then just videos where the Highlslide wouldn't really make much sense or be practical.

Yes, with the extended definitions in my thread (the add-on link in the main post), you can get AME to embed Local Hosted media, such as MOV, SWF, WMV, DIVX, RM, RAM and PDF.

Quote:

Depends on which threads your refering to. There's the older version originally made for 3.6. Then there's my two threads which support the extended definitions for AME: Third Time's the Charm are the definitions for AME 2.0 or older, and Delta are the definitions for AME 2.5.

anyways, dont wanna push you guys, but would really look forward for the update in 3.8 as well. practically it is working fine so far so i think there shouldnt be much work involved. But then again, it is the creator's decision:)

Is it possible to allow the listening of hosted .Mp3 files but prevent them from being downloaded.
Thanks James

Gladhatter 01-20-2009 01:55 AM

James, I think the answer is yes to this. You need to ask your server admin what to set the chmod ( I think it is 755 ) for sure not 777 on that directory at or maybe but not sure it can be pass protected but not the files. May be another chmod that will protect it as I am not that familiar with these but am sure there is a solution here. Another possible solution is a redirect code where the url is read from a fake location. Its a simple code for a competent coder to set up.

Makes sense!
I even know how to set the chmod, just not what to set it to.
I will try 755.
Thanks,
James

Gladhatter 01-20-2009 02:11 AM

I have tried all the chmods and I cannot stop it but there may be one that will work or the server help you restrict it or again pass protect not sure of and redirect, nearly positive would work with proper code.

Gladhatter 01-20-2009 02:13 AM

755 is not going to work and 710 711 will not allow you to connect. File a support ticket with your server admin and see if they will help.

awesome mod, easy install!~

james shadle 01-20-2009 03:54 AM

I installed AME 2.5 on VB 3.7.1 and I don't see the "admincp->AME CP->Settings"
There are some options for modifying code in the plug in area, but nothing in the Admin CP listing AME CP.
Any idea what I might have done wrong?
Thanks James

Digital Jedi 01-20-2009 04:49 AM

Your browser should have refreshed after install and the AME CP would be near the top. Try going back your ACP and refreshing to see if it's there now.

As for preventing downloading, the only thing you could really do is customize the player and don't include the download link. See this post and scroll down to the part about MP3s.

james shadle 01-20-2009 06:36 AM

That's not it!:)
I failed to transfer the XML files. All me, not you.
Thanks for the help.

Hi, thanks for this, it works great for me :)

Is it possible to have the videos left align by default? I can't seem to see a setting for that.

Anyone guide me in the right direction please? :)

Thanks.

Gladhatter 01-20-2009 01:34 PM

Dave I am not sure how to do it and not sure it is possible without some code lines written. Does not respond to any left align BB codes. If you are using Html you may have better luck with this but worse luck with hacker and code injections and other hacks.

Dave-M 01-20-2009 02:21 PM

Thanks, I don't use HTML :)

Seems odd that it won't left align when using the BB tags. Allowing this would be an excellent feature I think :)

In AME 2.0 you edit the Container HTML under Settings to change the alignment, and in 2.5 you would edit the container template.
