Still need help please.

bplinson 11-15-2005 03:21 AM

Sucessfully installed but crashed my server two nights in a row. Uninstalled.

apokphp 11-15-2005 03:23 AM

Along w/ the question of how much server load it causes...is there a way to slow down the shouts a member makes? Like x secs between shouts, sort of like the vb's search feature? That would probably prevent shout abuse.

I know it's possible to ban abusers...but I prefer to moderate the amount of shouts instead of just ban people.

el diablo 11-15-2005 05:22 AM

works great on my site... great hack ZT :)

nexus851 11-15-2005 06:20 AM

Anyone know how to add the smilies and font color/changes in the CMPS home VBSHOUT?

divided_by_fear 11-15-2005 10:28 PM

question if you type in http://www.yoursite.com/vbshout.php then you can see the shoutbox just in plain text how can that be stopped?

axiomotion 11-16-2005 03:57 AM

Is there any way to embed the shoutbox into an iframe/something so I can display it on a seperate page?

SuaveDebonaire 11-16-2005 04:01 AM

although a superior modification, there should be a warning to the HUGE HUGE HUGE amount of bandwidth (transfer) this script utilizes

divided_by_fear 11-16-2005 04:02 AM

why do you say that i havent seen it use to much? although i do see on my server it keeping connections open...

davidw 11-16-2005 10:37 AM

As for bandwidth, I've set this to all but unregistered users and banned.
I've had more people visit, more spiders, yet my bandwidth seems untouched compared to other months. Maybe I'm missing something. For me it doesn't use much bandwidth.

SuaveDebonaire 11-16-2005 06:41 PM

Just some information for those who board may be big or is continuing to grow

My board is only accessable by registered members, permissions set and therefore the only time the shoutbxo ever loads is when a registered member logs in.

I have a fairly active board, not to large, however I typically have between 30-60 members online at all times. I do not use that shoutbox on all pages mod, used it for one day and my bandwidth usage sored. I typically use 600-900 Megs of bandwidth each day (not that I only have a vbulletin board on my account, no other scripts, images, or files) and when I have the shoutbox enabled my bandwidth sores to around 4 to 5 gigs a day.

It's gotten so bad that this week I decided to only enable the chat from 5PM to Midnight. However the bandwidth still reaches 2.5 Gigs.

I'm not complaining about this mod, I think it's an excellent concept. I just need someway to decrease the bandwidth usage.

yea, but hte point was that guests and web crawlers are not depelting ANY bandwidth dealing with the shoutbox what do ever, it's only members. Puts a strain on the account so I'll hate to see how board with more then 100 members on at all times fair. They would have to be using at least 20 gigs a day, the bare least.

divided_by_fear 11-16-2005 07:00 PM

hmmm i have about 75 new members a day and my whole server with other accounts on it only has used 35 gbs to date which aint bad cause i get 2000 a month... but i dont see it using to much... just keeps alot of open connections thats all

kafi 11-16-2005 07:02 PM

PLEASE HELP!

I am going to upgrade to vb3.5 and would like to switch to this shoutbox instead installed BVShoutboxFull, but I do not want to loose history and specialy statistic (top shouterst etc.).

Is this any compatible? Can I /export/import shouts?
Thank you!!!

just to add above, appriciate the other side of the argument, my shoutbox is used all the time, nearly every minute there is a new comment, more then that, conversations typically occur in the shoutbox for extensive periods. Maby at least 10 LARGE scale conversations a day lasting at least 30 minutes each. Point is, my shoutbox is being used by many members, all the time, that can be one difference.

divided_by_fear 11-17-2005 06:15 AM

Zero Tolerance is there a way to stop users not logged in from opening that page?vbshout.php also would be nice if there was a way to clear shouts faster....

Dark Riku 11-18-2005 12:42 AM

How would i be able to install new fonts on the shoutbox? :P :P

whitetigergrowl 11-18-2005 12:59 AM

The last time he posted in this thread was August. Doesn't look like he's supporting this mod, so asking him directly in this thread for help or info is likely not to get answered. A shame too considering how good the shoutbox is and the potential it has/had. I suggest someone try and pick this up from him.

same here I was wondering why the most people are viewing the shoutbox,
another question, anybody know where I can change the phrase "viewing the shoutbox" into another language?
Thanks

SuaveDebonaire 11-18-2005 01:30 PM

I just decreased the size of hte vbshout.php file from around 16k to just under 4k
I also decreased the template a.. section by more then 60% by removing any instance of smilies.

So i'll see how this holds up for a day, if there is an extremly significant decrease in bandwidth usaged i'll post the resulting files up.

have you read the previous posts in this thread regarding that? I've posted about it, as well as others.

How do grant permission to a mod to moderate shouts?

No, it is no longer there as an "Installed Product", so it's now written to mysql, however I have no idea how to edit/remove it.

Madmp3zz 11-19-2005 11:43 AM

I have installed this along with the vbadvanced CMPS add-on..
How do I only show this in my CMPS but not anywhere in my forums.

unknowngiver 11-20-2005 03:47 AM

I ended up dropping the table in mysql, and then reinstalled the .xml file and it worked like a charm.

Hey guys, I just found this hack and LOVE it but I was wondering if there was any type of flood protection? Basically I dont want someone posting constantly like every second. I was hoping to set it to like 30 seconds or 45 seconds between shouts... is this possible? I read through most of the 50 plus pages but didnt see anything... Thanks in advance!
