Still need help please.
Sucessfully installed but crashed my server two nights in a row. Uninstalled.
Along w/ the question of how much server load it causes...is there a way to slow down the shouts a member makes? Like x secs between shouts, sort of like the vb's search feature? That would probably prevent shout abuse.
I know it's possible to ban abusers...but I prefer to moderate the amount of shouts instead of just ban people. |
works great on my site... great hack ZT :)
Anyone know how to add the smilies and font color/changes in the CMPS home VBSHOUT?
question if you type in http://www.yoursite.com/vbshout.php then you can see the shoutbox just in plain text how can that be stopped?
Is there any way to embed the shoutbox into an iframe/something so I can display it on a seperate page?
although a superior modification, there should be a warning to the HUGE HUGE HUGE amount of bandwidth (transfer) this script utilizes
why do you say that i havent seen it use to much? although i do see on my server it keeping connections open...
As for bandwidth, I've set this to all but unregistered users and banned.
I've had more people visit, more spiders, yet my bandwidth seems untouched compared to other months. Maybe I'm missing something. For me it doesn't use much bandwidth. |
Just some information for those who board may be big or is continuing to grow
My board is only accessable by registered members, permissions set and therefore the only time the shoutbxo ever loads is when a registered member logs in. I have a fairly active board, not to large, however I typically have between 30-60 members online at all times. I do not use that shoutbox on all pages mod, used it for one day and my bandwidth usage sored. I typically use 600-900 Megs of bandwidth each day (not that I only have a vbulletin board on my account, no other scripts, images, or files) and when I have the shoutbox enabled my bandwidth sores to around 4 to 5 gigs a day. It's gotten so bad that this week I decided to only enable the chat from 5PM to Midnight. However the bandwidth still reaches 2.5 Gigs. I'm not complaining about this mod, I think it's an excellent concept. I just need someway to decrease the bandwidth usage. |

Zero Tolerance is there a way to stop users not logged in from opening that page?vbshout.php also would be nice if there was a way to clear shouts faster....
How would i be able to install new fonts on the shoutbox? :P :P
The last time he posted in this thread was August. Doesn't look like he's supporting this mod, so asking him directly in this thread for help or info is likely not to get answered. A shame too considering how good the shoutbox is and the potential it has/had. I suggest someone try and pick this up from him.

another question, anybody know where I can change the phrase "viewing the shoutbox" into another language? Thanks |
I just decreased the size of hte vbshout.php file from around 16k to just under 4k
I also decreased the template a.. section by more then 60% by removing any instance of smilies. So i'll see how this holds up for a day, if there is an extremly significant decrease in bandwidth usaged i'll post the resulting files up. |

Hey guys, I just found this hack and LOVE it but I was wondering if there was any type of flood protection? Basically I dont want someone posting constantly like every second. I was hoping to set it to like 30 seconds or 45 seconds between shouts... is this possible? I read through most of the 50 plus pages but didnt see anything... Thanks in advance!
