varkjie,

try to remove sitemap files from forums folder, create .htaccess as described, regenerate sitemaps via vbseo_sitemap/ interface and try to open http://yourforumsroot/sitemap_index.xml.gz in browser.

Also, is your sitemap working for you when opened in browser?

Although I couldnt manage to get vbseositemap working, I can say with my previous sitemap creation experience, your sitemap file seems normal. sitemap_index is an index file as name says. it includes the location of sitemap files. and it really does, it points to sitemap_1 file.
I've seen some software or seo pros do that. an example sitemap_index file could include:
sitemap_forums.xml.gz
sitemap_threads.xml.gz
etc.

So yours seem normal. Did you try to open
sitemap_1.xml.gz
on your browser? try that.

in google webmaster tools:
1) click TOOLS to expand menu
2) click Analyze robots.txt
3) paste your robots.txt file there
4) click the check button

maybe it says where's the problem. also i'd try removing the sitemap: lines from the robots.txt and try that.

I assume you are able to open www.YourSite.com/robots.txt on your browser succesfully.

my guess for google not crawling;
google has, i dunno, maybe millions of sites to crawl, so it has its priorities. Even if you submit your site to google for indexing it may take long time. if your site has links from important, high ranked sites, i'm sure it will be crawled soon after it sees the links. And its always fast. If no links, than sitemap is one of the helpers. It's worth the effort. After that, it's up to your site's content update frequency.

I have the .htaccess folder, but I just deleted everything and reuploaded from scratch and this is what I see http://www.coupontradercentral.com/c...p_index.xml.gz
is that what the page is suppose to look like?

GoTTi 04-05-2008 07:02 PM

my site is already submitted to yahoo, do i have to submit the www.site.com again or should i submit the forum this time around, www.site.com/forums/ or should i submit a direct link to one of the xml.gz files that has been created?

thanks.

ps...

i do not have vbseo. do i need vbseo for this to work?

GoTTi 04-05-2008 07:05 PM

i am also seeing, like usual, a lot of these in my users online area:

crawl-66-249-67-184.googlebot.com

and

lj513278.crawl.yahoo.net

arent these now suppose to download or read the xml.gz file because i do not see any traffic under the "Sitemap Downloads Log" area.

Alfa1 04-05-2008 07:07 PM

http://myforumsroot/sitemap_index.xml.gz and http://www.mysitename.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz do not work for me or for google.
Yahoo faithfully downloads my sitemap every week. But other MSN, Google and Ask do not. Pings to all SE are successful. robots.txt is good.
I have followed installation instructions.
How do I fix this?

varkjie 04-05-2008 07:31 PM

i submitted the page to google and came back with errors for
http://www.coupontradercentral.com/ctc/sitemap_1.xml.gz
and
http://www.coupontradercentral.com/ctc/sitemap_2.xml.gz

I have no idea whats going wrong with this??
I took a look inside the .htaccess fold thats inside /data/ and that one said "deny from all" not sure if thats correct or if the may be playing a part in this??

No...robots.txt just controls spider activity.

* if what you submitted, the urllist file, differs from the one you create with vbseositemap, and vbseositemap one includes the old ones urls, then you better submit the new one.

1) googlebot may be indexing your site content (even if the site doesnt have sitemap)
2) if you have adsense ads on site's pages, then google media agent may be checking content for ad relevancy.
so it doesnt have to be sitemap related all the time. if you submit and it succesfully reads the sitemap file, you will surely see the activity in vbseositemap reports.

GoTTi 04-06-2008 02:51 AM

what am i suppose to submit to yahoo and google, if anything? direct link to the xml.gz file?

raagaswaram 04-06-2008 06:47 AM

is it worth it use sitemap without vbseo?

Super Jinni 04-07-2008 10:42 AM

I reinstalled vbseo generator and deleted the vbseo_sitemap folder form the forum root the uploaded a fresh copy that I downloaded just now from here.
when I went to the vBSEO Sitemap Reports I found that the url of (Your Google Sitemap Index) still there before I generate it. after I generated it it still the same as before. and the sitemap ends with .xml not
with .gz as in the other website...

I've done everything that mentioned... but the problem still there..
hopeless

ziahaq21 04-07-2008 12:59 PM

i'm having problem in getting sitemap. Here's what i did
uploaded all the files as per instructions in folder (forum) under my root folder i.e
www.mydomain/forums/
here i installed vbseo_sitemap,
i gave 777 permission to data folder
i also updated.htaccess file too
everything is done i think correctly.

but how to add sitemap
i visited www.google.com/sitemaps
there i don't know what to put, in this forum sometimes i see vbseo_sitemap.xml.gz
and sometimes different
do i have to put like this
www.mydomain.com/forums/vbseo_sitemap.xml.gz or
http://www.mydomain.com/forums/vbseo...sitemap.xml.gz

Can anyone just mention everything from start to end on how to install and what files have to change, and in which folder we have to install, whether root, or else. Please if anyone did installed correctly give me the step by step procedure. I will be very greatful to him

waiting for someone to help me out.

I second this. Google is giving me 404 errors and yahoo says the file doesn't exist. A decent walkthrough for those who don't have vBSEO installed would be much appreciated.

Anybody who use vBSEO Sitemap Generator 2.1 and DownlaodsII with vBSEO DownloadsII Extension, than you should read this Thread in vBSEO Forum:

dieselpowered 04-10-2008 03:45 PM

Can anyone confirm that this works correctly with 3.7??

Thanks!

Icy 04-10-2008 04:38 PM

Works fine for me & I'm on vBulletin 3.7 RC2

virb 04-10-2008 06:07 PM

Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to configure this add-on so that it saves its sitemaps to the forum root rather than the vbseo_sitemap directory?

raagaswaram 04-12-2008 11:28 PM

i installed sitemap but the sitemaps generating inside data folder but when looking inside vb_sitemap page it says our Google Sitemap Index URL /forum/sitemap.xml.gz do i have to move the site maps inside data folder manually to forum root?

or when generating site map getting this

[create sitemap file] filename: sitemap_12.xml.gz, number of urls: 20000 [4,145.8Kb mem used] [11s (+1s)]
[create sitemap in text format] part #13 [4,145.8Kb mem used] [11s (+0s)]

is that right?

ziahaq21 04-13-2008 06:15 AM

hi all,
need some help.
I installed vbseo sitemap as per the procedure given here. all generated sitemaps are created in data folder, whichis given 777 permission.
Another thing in the admin cp, under vbseo settings, url of sitemap was blank, and give it the path like this "http://www.mydomain.com/forums/vbseo_sitemap/data/

Under vbseo reports, i checked the generated sitemap links and clicked it and its working...
Hope i did everything correctly.

Next i went to google.com/sitemaps
and added a site like this " www.mydomain.com/forums/vbseo_sitemap/data"
because previously when i put www.mydomain.com/forums/ " its not accepting giving error like sitemap should be in homepage, or if you want to use www.mydomain.com/forums/vbseo_sitemap/data as the link for sitemap, use it as your website in your accounts.
after this i added the sitemap "sitemap_index.xml.gz" and got message ok.
and 3 other sitemaps too got updated and status is ok.

But still it shows, the total urls in sitemap is zero
indexed urls in sitemap is zero..
what does it mean. Because while in admin cp when sitemaps are generated it showed 1,42,000 urls and divided in to 3 parts...

Can anyone explain me why it shows zero urls, because i'm not getting any errors.

Or is there any problem with static or dynamic urls, i'm not an expert here so guide me. My forum is having more than 80k threads but not a single page is indexed in url.

Or is it important to have vbseo, i read in forum 'not'...
please help me out, today only...as its sunday and i'm free to put all my time in updating my forum...

thanks in advance
zia

iojam 04-13-2008 09:06 PM

virb, raagaswaram,

you should create .htaccess file as described in installation instructions, and you will be able to access sitemaps as if they were in forum folder, although files are stored in data/ folder.

ziahaq21,

you should submit http://www.mydomain.com/forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz to Google (not http://www.mydomain.com/forums/vbseo...p_index.xml.gz)

steveneff 04-14-2008 06:47 PM

I have my forum in a folder www.mysite.com/forums/ I already have a sitemap for the rest of my site in the site root.
Will I be able to use this mod to add the forums sitemap into my static root sitemap.xml or is there another mod that can do this?
My forum also uses rewrite urls like thread122.html (not vbseo or zoints) would this be compatable?

iojam 04-14-2008 07:59 PM

Hello,

you can submit both sitemaps to Google, one for forum and another one for non-forum pages.

Alfa1 04-14-2008 09:51 PM

Can you please help me with this:

Installed and working but it's listing my old php urls and not the rewrite's. they are not vbseo, is there a fix for this

http://www.mysite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15

they should be listed as

http://www.mysite.com/forums/forum15.html

Alfa1,

what exactly is the error you get from Google?

steveneff,

vBSEO Sitemap Generator supports only native vBulletin URLs or vBSEOed URLs.

Super Jinni,

do you have sitemap files created in vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder?

Wobbly Goblin 04-15-2008 03:57 PM

Hum...I see in the instructions this program uses ".htaccess", so will it run on a Windows 2003 server?

Thanks,
Nick

forumbust 04-15-2008 04:28 PM

Hi,

I have follow the instructions and it seems i encounter a problem. I have transferred the whole vbseo_sitemap folder to my forum folder. At the sitemap Report homepage, there is a link to my Google Sitemap Index URL: http:// my site.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.

The problem of it is that there is no page found. Did i do anything wrong?

Thanks in advance for helping.

btw, i am using 3.6.9. Does it work on 3.6.9?

Ya...that's what I thought you'd say. I was hoping the "isapi" had something to do with Apache.

Thanks for your help,
