I'm using this and the reCaptcha, and have had no spambots since. I'm running 3.8, and it seems to work fine.

I'm gonna keep looking for one that works. Just re-installed this one and it's borked!

bummer

If your on 3.8 then you should at least be using the 3.7 version of NoSpam!.

For some reason I've tested both and it won't allow anyone to finish the registration process. I'm now using the built in version and so far no spam.

Digital Jedi 01-23-2009 08:17 AM

When you had NoSpam! installed, did you have the built in questions disabled?

csoroner 01-23-2009 04:18 PM

Yes I did? Could it be case sensitive?

I don't think it's case sensitive, but you did have to include variations of words if you wanted those variations accepted. Plus you had to format them correctly in order for them to work.

chompboard 02-02-2009 06:35 PM

This worked perfectly for months and as of a couple days ago they are getting through in waves. I think they're on to us... Time for an update.

stemmy 02-03-2009 02:25 PM

Same happened to me - been great for months then last couple of days waves of spam accounts.

i assumed that the robots had got more clever and were able to understand simple questions like

2 + 2 =
and
Type XXXXX here

I initially just replaced the questions with ones very similar just different figures. Seemed to work for a couple of hours then they came again.

So I then replaced the questions with ones that didn't have the answer in them - like

how many fingers on one hand ....

what is the opposite of North ......

What is the talest mountain in the world .........

Since changing these all spam accounts have stopped. Dunno if its coincidence but I'm happy either way

NexDog 02-03-2009 10:03 PM

Cheers, good to know.

Ev!L ErN!E 02-08-2009 08:46 PM

Yes I seem to be getting waves os spam accounts alot the past couple of weeks, it would seem they have found a way around Nospam and Captcha

Expat 02-08-2009 10:17 PM

They've defeated NoSpam! and now, unfortunately, it's worthless in its present form. Captcha works fine and is effetive, but you must have true type fonts enabled.

thats not true... I have true type fonts enabled, and I have still been getting tons of bots registering our forum. They have gotten around NoSpam! and Captcha....

I get several spammers per day and this feature does nothing to slow them down. Any suggestions on a really good question and answer?

I've used simple math questions. e.g. What is 5+7?:12 or Please type "Boss302" into the following field.:Boss302

This is not working. Any suggestions? Also, most of my spammers register with the birthday of January 1, 1980

snipeyhead 03-16-2009 02:41 PM

Hey USA - I wrote an article on managing registration spam in vbulletin that you might find interesting, including some benchmarking:

keress 03-20-2009 11:39 PM

I really need a mod like this. Even with the Captcha I get an obnoxious among of spam and I was really hoping this would do the trick, but I've upgraded to 3.8, had a template written for it, and this doesn't appear to work with it. I installed it, did the set up, but it doesn't appear anywhere.

Thanks!

That's probably part of your problem. Math questions, or putting you answer into the question itself are easily bypassed by bots. You're giving the bot the answer. Questions need to be simple questions that a bot can't guess. Like "What color is the sky?" or (since you can use HTML in the questions) "What color is this picture?" Don't put the answer anywhere in your question or in your HTML and don't use math questions. Just use simple, first grade questions that don't have a lot of variable answers.

Awesome, works like a charm- Good work !

ETDC 07-17-2009 10:38 PM

Is this working in 3.8.3 ?

Kayvin 07-18-2009 09:19 PM

3.8.3 has these abilities in the basic package.

ETDC 07-18-2009 10:28 PM

It still doesn't defeat bots though like this hack used to.

Kayvin 07-19-2009 08:31 AM

I installed this mod when I was using 3.6. I went from 8 bots a day to 0 bots.

I removed this mod when I upgraded to 3.8 and could do this with 3.8's built-in features. I stayed at 0 bots. Works great. :)

There's a verification question in 3.8.3?

Kayvin 07-19-2009 05:54 PM

On the Human Verification Manager, it asks me if I wanted to use Image Verification, Question & Answer Verification, or reCAPTCHA Verification because I have that installed (though I no longer use it)

Human Verification Options is one of the first options on the sidebar of the admin panel, or it can be found in the vBulletin Options panel relatively close to the top of the list.

ETDC 07-19-2009 06:40 PM

^ Thanks for that. Phew, now I can avoid wasting hours checking if they're bots or not....

Cheers.

ellicit 09-29-2009 06:19 PM

I just installed it... I hope it helps.

midirtrider 10-09-2009 03:00 AM

Hey,

I've added the registrar nospam code but the question won't show on the registration page. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You'd need the most recent version.

Neither. There isn't one for 4.0.

Robman 04-12-2010 03:07 PM

the hack works with vbulletin 4.0.1, but the design is deformed and a error appears in the header

Hi,
We are having problems of Spams in Publishing suite.

I saw the downloads for 3.5 and 3.7 versions but not for our versions.

Is it possible to get it for our Publishing Suite - 4.0.5 and
VBulleting - 3.8.4 ???

How effective and reliable is this application ?
Your Help on this would be great.

Thank you for your support
Bish
