I just verified they do on MGC's server running it.

An observation... 3.3.0

When a page loads with Chat enabled, there is a significant wait between the page header and the rest of the page displaying.
I'm guessing some Javascript is waiting for page load when it should use an event.

Maybe its related to PHP5.3. Sites that run PHP5.3 needed to remove various code from vbulletin to make it work with php5.3. This includes the deprecated 'new by reference' and causes various addons/functions to stop working if those addons use deprecated code or rely on deprecated code in vbulletin.

How do I ban a user trough by editing the database?
The function to ban users is still gone since the upgrade and I need to ban someone.

EDIT: I have added a number (days) to the database field mcg_cb_evo_bantime. Hopefully this does the trick.

Ban doesn't work for you at all?

I see it on our site. But we are 5.2 php. Obviously this needs addressed if it's a php issue.

I have a problem with the chatbox

I installed it like it says in readme.
Uploaded files, imported the xml.
Set user permissions and set display settings.
But the chat box does not show up on the pages. What am I doing wrong?

It's got to be a missing file or setting. Use error console/debugger to show issues. ;)

When turning on the commands, the chatbox gets very serious css issues.
And on windows with firefox or Opera the drop down next to a members name is not usable at all. Because it doesnt work and is misplaced far from where it should be.

That's my guess. Otherwise I don't know why some sites have these issues and others do not. PHP5.3 deprecates certain functions. The way to make vbulletin compatible is to change a few lines of code in vbulletin, according to the instructions of PaulM on vbulletin.com
It is possible that the chat box relies upon deprecated php code.

Are you running PHP 5.3? That seems to be causing issues.

Is this compatible with VB 4.2?

After I installed it, I went to Usergroups and tried to modify the permissions. Unfortunately, everytime I clicked on Update, it just gave me an error page.
I then removed MGC CB, and tried to update the usergroup and it was fine, but the whole point of updating the usergroup was to allow permission to use the MGC CB.

Yes, it's compatible. Use the error console or logs and provide that info.

Hi guys, I'm getting a bit of an issue on this.

We open the Chatbox for people to use every Saturday afternoon and occasionally Tuesday evening during a Watford FC match, when we close it it sends the forum into melt down and makes it shut as a safety measure.

Our hosts say this is due to too many connections, but it only ever happens as soon as we click to disable the Chatbox again.

Any ideas?

Either make a Chat usergroup (don't make it their default) and enable/disable it.

Or enable/disable it in usergroups when you don't want to use it.

So have the Chatbox permanently up, and make it accessible by a usergroup only.

Add all members to that usergroup, but disable the usergroup's access when I don't want them using it.

anyway, i need this one solved, so please; any hints would be appriciated.
i'm running this mod for some time now and everything ran well untill updated to latest 3.3.0 version. now my sidebar notifications doesn't work anymore.

what it does is that (when notifications are enabled) the chatbox keep reloading itself and there is no notifications sidebar (forum block) present.

while i was debugging this issue i found out that i can temporarly set this running if i do the following (in these very steps):
- enable sidebar notifications
- clear system cache
- reload the forums

now the sidebar notifications are present
- if i reload the forums again, the stuck reloading issue repeats
and so on...

i'm lost.

That issue was resolved in 3.3.0. Also make sure mod security isn't enabled.


Yes. Basically you add them to a secondary group (You can use sql and mass do this) or you can just have VIP/paying etc etc.

I want to inquire about the running of one of the scripts that comes with MGC Chatbox Evo,

mgc_cb_evo/cron/mgc_cb_evo_ban.php

We're currently on version 3.2.3 (so we have applied the fix for checking ban expiration on permanent bans ourselves), but my question is unrelated. Where is this script called from, and how often? A few minute bans tend to take a lot longer than a few minutes because of the frequency of this script's running.

I ordered the paid version plus professiona install on the mgcproducts site. Yesterday evening someone attempted to install the chat plugin on my site and from appearances they uploaded over my admincp so that the only file that shows in there is mgc_cb_evo.php . Needless to say my site has crashed. Yesterday evening I patiently posted in mgc priority support, PM'd "MGC" and PM'd VBdev on this site without one reply. At the very least I would expect someone to have the courtesy to send me a message to say that the site wa down and they were working to resolve it or inform me if they could not fix it. I chose MGC because of the volume of traffic on this thread and the number of installs, but my forum has been down for 14 hours without a peep from anyone. I am forced to restore it my self and still be without the product or service I paid for. Very BAD experience.

Plus pro version cannot be installed because of stupid errors in their files. I'm waiting for answer of their support but I think they will tell me that's my problem :P

With latest version, you can choose are you want to display PM messages on general tab. And If you want to chat with someone on private tab, just click on his/her username. New tab will open, and you can chat private.

That doesn't seem to work, as when I try and PM it just shows in the shoutbox, doesnt open a new tab. I guess I must have missed something. Could you tell me where I can edit the settings to display messages on the general tab, sorry I'm a novice haha :D

FIXED THE LOADING ISSUE, at least the one I was having. I was using html in my title input field through the admincp for the chat box. I just changed it to plain text with no html, and it loads beautifully!

With that said, I have no knowledge of this install and I messaged VBDev to see if he did.

I do however see a post on the forum stating an error was encountered and you removed access, thus prohibiting anyone from fixing it.

As I stated in the PM I sent you, I recognize I indeed did a mistake (error is human...) when installing the chatbox but I sent you an email as soon as I discovered the issue.

So don't tell me I didn't warn you I made a mistake.

Btw, I offered you to refund the install fees, help you fix my mistake and install the chatbox for free once it's fixed but got no answer.

So please, at least tell the thruth... And don't use this thread regarding paying mods, this is not the place.

Do you see the notifications in sidebar block when you go in the forum blocks manager ?

Look in the chatbox help, if you have enabled the ban command.

No. When I select the notifications to be in side block (vb4) my chat flashes on and off the screen.

If I just have the side block enabled, nothing shows up. I included a screenshot of the evo_chat side block settings. I may just be missing some code. I have tried with text/html/php all selected. Still nothing. Thanks for the help

Clement: could you please address the issue of not having any commands and the drop down not working? Its a major issue as I cant even ban people from my chat.

I suspect this is caused by the PHP5.3 new by reference deprecation and the vb3.8 fixes that PaulM posted for this.
