D'oh! If it were any easier, I would have tripped on it. Thanks so much! All fixed!

XXP 06-13-2008 07:23 PM

I modified the NoSpam! code to work with vB 3.7. I'll attach it here as a .zip. Treat it exactly the same as before except that this one will only work with 3.7+ vB.

As before, NoSpam! 3.7 will still let you have both the captcha image and the NoSpam question.

NB: if Antialias would like to take it and publish it for 3.7 that would be fine.

NB: The mod is simple. In the script for the NoSpam! plugin component called "Generate and insert NoSpam! question", every instance of old vB variable "$imagereg" is replaced with the new term "$human_verify".

NB: I've labeled this modified version as 3.7 simply to align it with the vB version with which it works. Call it 3.1 or "Bob" if you prefer.

NOTE: this modified version of NoSpam! will only work with 3.7+ vBulletin templates. It will not work with earlier versions. Do not use with vB 3.6.x or earlier.

Hope you all find this helpful. Still love this mod, Antialias.

thank you for your answer!!!

 Yes; if you use the modified version attached to my previous post today.

mmm3 06-15-2008 04:52 PM

Just want to THANK YOU again for this mod!

I tried turning it off and got 3 porn spams in a few minutes. With it turned on, I'm lucky if I get 1 spam a month!

It allows me to keep guest posting enabled, (which is why I went with Vbulletin in the first place).

eJM 06-15-2008 06:16 PM

Wow, XXP, your dedication and support of this mod is really appreciated. Thanks for the work you put into it. You know, the author hasn't responded to this discussion since June 10 of last year. Maybe you should just post a new mod for 3.7.x with your code edits and give antialiasis credit for the original code and let's be done with him. I don't know why he said this hack was supported, when he doesn't support it.

R'gards,

Jim

I'm running 3.6.8 and have a few problems. I've went through and installed both quickregister and nospam based on the instructions. All appears fine. My issue has to do with the nospam questions. If I have both quick register and nospam on at the same time, quickregister displays a question, but it always reports the answer is incorrect. And this is with using 2+2equals:4 for testing.

If I have quickregister off and only using nospam, when registering the question(s) are not displayed. When you complete user registration it reports the questions were answered improperly. I went back through the edits documented as well, double checking and all show as they should.

Ideas or thoughts?

ArnyVee 06-17-2008 06:16 PM

Thanks XXP! You are THE man! Unless you're a woman....in that case, you are THE woman! :D

Here's the post with the 3.7+ version that XXP posted a page or two ago....

kyhorse 06-17-2008 09:10 PM

Disregard my post about needing help. I uninstalled both nospam and quickregister. Went back and installed NoSpam by itself and was able to get the NoSpam question(s) to appear in the registration form.

Thanks.

Does not work on 3.7.1 - it actually screws everything up. I upgraded from 3.6.8 to 3.7.1 awhile back, and just had an email yesterday actually saying that the user couldn't register because it said he answered the NoSpam! question wrong, but there WAS no Nospam questions asked!

So I checked, and yep, I haven't had a new user in MONTHS! (used to get a few a day)

True. You need to use the modified one called 3.7. Find it in this post: www.vbulletin.org/forum/....1548655

ArnyVee 06-18-2008 09:19 PM

I upgraded from 3.6.8 P2 to 3.7.1 P1 a week ago. I lost out on quite a few new members because of the 'error' of the previous version of NoSpam!

Well, since adjusting it to XXP's version, it's been working great. :D

Thanks again XXP!

edward hamilton 06-19-2008 02:27 PM

I'm running 3.6.8 PL2 and haven't been able to get any questions to appear on the registration form.

I've read the installation instructions. edited the register template to include $nospamfield
I'm not using Quick Register but tried the edits suggested in the integration instructions and still wasn't able to seem to get any verification questions to appear.

I've uninstalled this mod, but will check back to see if there are any good ideas here.

I see some other people are having similar problems.

antialiasis 06-23-2008 05:25 PM

Hello, and sorry about my absence. I have just released a new version of NoSpam! for vBulletin 3.7; it is linked to at the top of the first post of this thread. I have also attached to that first post an experimental NoSpam! 4.0 file which could theoretically fix edward hamilton's problem (and that of others who run into the same issue). It is untested on 3.6, however; it will not delete your database or anything, but it might simply not work. Anybody who has a 3.6 board and would be willing to try it and report on whether it works would be greatly appreciated.

JJ the Fox 06-23-2008 05:55 PM

Perfect add on.

Zero spambots since installation.

That's OK. No need to say 'thanks'. And thank you for responding to emails and attempts to contact at your site. No problemo, as they say.

ablaye 07-21-2008 10:25 PM

Cool mod. I installed it on my Webmaster Forum.

slinky66 09-03-2008 05:48 PM

How would you use an image as was described above and paraphrased here:

"Or you can go with inserting a simple image with HTML and ask what is shown on the image"

rwoscott 10-08-2008 07:54 PM

Nice Mod. Easy to install and use.
AND works a treat.

Thanks.

Trixi.com 10-08-2008 11:39 PM

Installed on 3.6.2. It was so easy. Much better then Captcha...often users can not well read the letters (lower case, upper case)...It is much easier now!

Tx for sharing this nice piece of software.

NexDog 10-08-2008 11:41 PM

This suddenly stopped working for me. I mean it works, but I have this one bot that always gets past it and signs up and spams 2 to 3 times a day. :(

inciarco 10-14-2008 12:41 AM

Great Mod, Works Ok in vB 3.6.8. PL2.

Thank You Very Much For Sharing it.

My Best Regards.

:)

legionofangels 10-14-2008 01:20 AM

Great mod.

Thanks for sharing it.

I recommend you put this in your opening post, or a link to it:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....&postcount=343

It is required for it to work with the Quick Register Mod. I was thinking that it had to be that to, since the QR field is it's own field, but I didn't know where to put the code until I found that.

Linking to it would save you future questions, that will arise as your text instructions at this moment, are not fully correct. The answer box appears in Quick Register but the question does not unless you do the change that the member suggested.

I used this question mixing a number with a word 10 and third, to try and confuse a bot almost like a problem solving question.

If 10 is a third of the total, what is the total?

I am wondering something though, you say it only shows one question and it randomizes them, is that correct?

If so, how many questions do you think we should come up with?

SoftDux 10-22-2008 02:31 PM

great mod, thanx :)

crazymilk 10-30-2008 08:17 AM

crazymilk 10-30-2008 08:27 AM

I know I read that but sorry I am still unsure:o

edit no worries..sorted

manning 11-14-2008 03:54 PM

How well does this work? E.G what percentage of reg spam does it stop?

AuroraStorm 11-15-2008 11:28 AM

I installed this on a friend's board because she's getting slammed with spammers. I added four questions but it only shows just the one. I didn't space the questions apart. Should I have done that, because I followed the example in the original attachment.

I read earlier where soemone said it would have been better as a profile field and I think he was right...

Edited: Uninstalled...it didn't work...bots were still able to get through the question and it wasn't an easy question either...

asandhanam 11-16-2008 01:34 AM

I'm running VB 3.6.11. I just installed this plugin intending to use it with my custom form (using form hack) and contact us. I followed the instructions from install.txt & integration.txt. But it doesn't seem to be working. I also edited the contact us template manually and added $nospamfield above $imagereg as per troubleshooting.txt. Still wouldn't work. Can't understand why. Help please.

Admiral Cuddles 11-18-2008 05:42 PM

I am running VB 3.6.8 and had it installed and a bot got past it in under 5 minutes, followed instructions and enabled, looked like it was working (I tested it as soon as I registered by creating a new user, it stopped me from registering). But we've had such a major problem with bots that we had to turn registration right off.

Shaven_LTS 11-18-2008 07:57 PM

Installed... and works! Thanks

Gerald_D 11-20-2008 05:18 AM

This mod is great, but I need an "inverse" version of it . . . . . :)

My registration already contains a couple of questions. For example, one of the questions is "Do you already have a CNC machine?", and that's where my regular spammers answer "1". In fact, they answer all questions as 1.

So, instead of having a system that recognises the right answer to random questions, how about a mod that recognises the (repeated) wrong answer to standard questions?

Gleedo 11-22-2008 08:27 AM

Just installed this and enabled it on v3.7.4 PL1 but the CAPTCHA thingy is still appearing instead. I did check to see if it was just a custom template problem, but its not appearing on the default template either.

Any help appreciated as im inundated with friggin spammers :(

EDIT : Ignore me, i just spotted the other thread for 3.7x - im an idiot lol.....DOH!

manning 12-03-2008 10:31 PM

Just installed this - will report back results in a few days ... sick and tired of all the bot registrations. I hope it works!

manning 12-17-2008 07:47 PM

Its been a couple weeks now and thus far (knock on wood) the spam has stopped!

THANKS!

TheLastSuperman 12-17-2008 09:20 PM

Thanks! 3.6.8

csoroner 01-12-2009 06:45 PM

The upgrade performed today from 3.7.4 (mod worked) to 3.8 broke it. No matter what the answer was entered your always wrong and can't register.

So I ran the uninstall and guess what? The random question box is still there?

Please tell me how to remove it so new members can register!

Ncturnal 01-12-2009 09:38 PM

If I'm not mistaken the random question that remains is part of vBulletin's built in version, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
