I've done this like 10 times step by step and still can't get it to work :/

Does not work by me !!!

It works fine but covers up the CONTACT US and other buttons at the bottom, which is bad if someone needs help registering.

I had to remove it. But liked the idea and incorporated the same type of thing with RBS (rotating banner system), just for unregistered users to see the same type of thing in an area that doesnt cover anything.

You can easily place it elsewhere. like i've done with mine, I placed it more towards the centre so that the links you mentioned are not covered.

Best thing to do is just search google for "dog png" and you'll find loads of images you might be able to use. Such as this sort of image: http://www.iconspedia.com/icon/dog.html
