Too lazy to search through all 13 pages but is it possible to move the shoutbox in a different location?

I'd like to place it on a custom page rather than have it below the navbar.

Of course you can. Find the hook you need to insert from the settings page where you select the position of the shout and put it where you need it.
Obviously disable automatic template embedding.
Thanks dragon, waiting for the update. Congrats on a very good mod.

Just a suggestion (not important). When you scroll and read previous shouts if the refresh occurs your list scroll back to last shout even if no new shouts are. If you read slowly and set up a longer visible list (and need to scroll) this can be annoying.

I believe it's only supposed to scroll up if you're already scrolled up.
If this doesn't work, then it's a browser issue cause it's been working fine in Firefox and IE in my tests.

Having a real issue need some help. When I go to log into my admin control panel now I get this and cant get in to work on the issue.

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/content/d/a/b/XXXXXXXXX/html/XXXXXXXXXXX/dbtech/vbshout/includes/class_bootstrap.php on line 38

You might be running PHP4. vBShout is only compatible with PHP5, because PHP4 has been "End-Of-Life" (not supported) for over 2 years now.

If that is the case, please attempt to change PHP version in your hosting's control panel, or contact your host to have them upgrade PHP to PHP5 :)

It's to bad someone couldn't have just started working on inferno sb, it's still the best but it has flaws that need to be fixed and things that could be added.

I was thinking about using this but the layout is so ugly.

DragonByte Tech 07-19-2010 11:55 AM

I'm sorry you feel that way.

In the Pro version, the shout area can be moved above/below the shout area, just like the old ITech shoutbox.

After a couple days simmering in Beta sauce over a low flame, vBShout v5.3.0 has now been released.
This is purely a performance update, and brings changes in the way BBCode is handled and also how the AOP system functions.

BBCode will now parse when -saving- shouts instead of when -fetching- them, greatly reducing the strain on your server from having to parse 20 (or however many shouts you display) every load.

The AOP system will now be up to 80% faster* in checking whether new shouts have been posted and will also use a greatly diminished amount of resources in this check.

Furthermore, caching on Chat Rooms have been improved, eliminating 1-3 queries (depending on context) from each request.

* Based on a comparison of AOP fetch times on 5.2.3 and 5.3.0 on DBTech's server and my development computer.
Lowest AOP fetch time recorded: 26ms (5.3.0) vs 1.0s (5.2.3)
Highest AOP fetch time recorded: 224ms (5.3.0) vs 1.45s (5.2.3)
Your mileage may vary. This is in no way, shape or form a guarantee that your server load will go down by 80%.
