kindly let me know..i have been on the hold for this reason..

I would say that they are creating and testing the hacks on a test board. Once they are happy there are no bugs in the new mods they will then upgrade this board and add the hacks and upload the style files.

Onimua 10-06-2005 02:25 AM

I don't mind how long it takes for vborg to upgrade to 3.5, as long as it's before 3.6. :p

That's it. Essentially we are all ready go go, but there are 2 major hacks that still need completing. :) The main one is the much anticipated hack database interface, with code by Marco, templates by Brad and assistance by Colin, Stefan and some others. :) It's not a small job, so please be patient.

Its not like you all are getting paid for this..... Who cares really... Its a message board and serves its purpose. Must we have everything right now all the time.

Take your time.

Take your time.

It is one of the curses of the net.

Shops and help desks use to have opening hours. Didn't matter how large or small the company people were use to hours of operation. Now sites are online 24/7 and if people can't get what they want when they want it they get a little irritable.

I don't condone this mentality, but the more instant satisfaction that is provided the more will be demanded.

Well, that one isn't adding a query at all, but it's not a really well written hack. It's just a playing around with global variables in phpinclude, so all in all it's jsut a template change and the stylenames are all hardcoded..

monstergamer 10-06-2005 05:28 PM

WOW a littl off topic, but i reach my 400th post...

any way, i hope the upgrade goes smooth and take your time

How true. :)

Tradjick 10-12-2005 04:09 AM

Which styles will we have in 3.5? I Just ask because i am one of the few that still prefer the dark blue style. :nervous:

Brad 10-12-2005 04:22 AM

The dark blue style has already been ported, along with all the others.

badblu 10-12-2005 07:33 AM

i want a new style :)

Chris M 10-12-2005 08:08 AM

Then create one ;)

Chris

Tony G 10-12-2005 08:35 AM

I hope you haven't been changing my purple one. I'll be buggered if I have to change skin!

Paul M 10-20-2005 10:22 PM

Come on chaps, what's the hold up. :)

Chris M 10-20-2005 10:27 PM

Everytime the administration gets pestered, they add another day to the upgrade date ;)

Chris

Brad 10-20-2005 10:32 PM

Just a little more work to be done Paul, we want to make sure everything works like it should before we go public with it. :)

We're making the hamsters work over-time to get the site ready asap :D

Chris

peterska2 10-20-2005 11:03 PM

Come on Paul, be patient. It'll be done when it's done. :)

Lea Verou 10-21-2005 09:30 AM

For how long do you estimate the site to be offline during the upgrade?

Chris M 10-21-2005 09:55 AM

That is difficult to say - How long does a normal upgrade to 3.5 take on average? How long will the modifications take to implement on average?

A couple of hours, but maybe longer :ermm:

Best people to ask are Erwin, Brad and Stefan but I'm not even sure if they can give an accurate timeframe :)

Chris

Lea Verou 10-21-2005 09:59 AM

It took me 2 days!!! lol! :p
I just hope it will be only some hours for vbulletin.org, I'm addicted to it :p

Snake 10-21-2005 10:06 AM

Oh hell yeah. Man there is no Aftermath without vB.org... :D

jesus likes pie 10-21-2005 11:01 AM

eeew page load

:P

Razasharp 10-21-2005 01:40 PM

Can I just quickly suggest that the vb.org Team get a handful of (non-team) members to give the directory a bash before it is implemented as they might highlight something that needs looking at/tweaking? (which might be better to do before it goes live).

I don't mind volunteering for this :p

Tradjick 10-21-2005 03:13 PM

It would also be nice to see a new smiley set with the new version. ;)

PS: Will the new categorisation system be released as a hack?

Chris

Should take about 30 mins at most to get it online, you can prepare all the files beforehand, then just swap to them, and run the upgrade script. It should be possible to do everything else while it's online with the 3.5 files.

Xenon 10-21-2005 03:28 PM

the upgrade scripts took much more time here....

With a database the size of this, I would image 30 minutes is something more like 3 - 4 hours ;)

Chris

LJR 10-22-2005 11:36 AM

I was just going to post in the feedback forums about having something more categorised and so I am pleased to see that it's already in hand.

Is there a time frame for when the db is expected. Not in any particular rush, just nosey really.

:)

Xenon 10-23-2005 03:21 PM

we hope to get it until mid of november, but cannot say more.

the two main coders (/me and Marco) are currently very busy in RL things..

Darkwaltz4 10-23-2005 03:39 PM

heh, it does seem like a reaaaally nice addition which is making everyone anxious, but i totally understand how much RL takes precedence so I will just say you can do it when your good and ready since i wish lots of admins waiting on me would always remember this too :-p

LJR 10-28-2005 11:01 AM

Hey completely understand. The important thing is it's released when you are happy with it. Look forward to seeing it when it lands.

Nice work!

Jenta 10-28-2005 04:59 PM

Why upgrade now? Wait for the bugfixed release. There's probably 100 bugs found and fixed since 3.5 went gold. Then again, I would imagine you guys have access to the CVS.

nope, just the devs have

we don't upgrade to fast, but we do prepare the upgrade.
A lot of our hacks on vb3.0 can be done as plugins, so upgrading to the bugfixed version won't be a big deal ;)
