I did not enter any moods, but I'll do so now for testing purposes.
Edit: Done. Not many and kinda lame as they are standard Smilies ;) |
Now that the images are fixed, I can see the rating system and mood smilies.
Nice! |
Very Nice Kirby, I signed up as HAL-9000. I find this hack to be most excellent, it seems pretty functional right now even. Hopefully we see a release in the coming weeks. :D
The only thing I could think of wanting perhaps, would have the comments featured underneath the entry when you click on the individual entry. Not sure how possible this would be, but it'd be cool to see them underneath my entry. |
Why is the default journal display option set to
sort By: Journal Start Date sort order: Ascending How about changing the default display options to sort By: Last Entry's Date sord order: Descending that way when members visit the journals they see active journals on the first page and not a bunch of journals started long ago and not necessarily with any entries in them. |
Just checking :) lol
If I already have vbjournal for 3.0, I don't need to do anything to make them work for the 3.5 version?? |
Hey Kirby,
I was just starting building my own Blog system hack for vb, but something came up and I'll be busy with some other projects, and since you are porting an existing one and adding new features to it, which should be better having one official Journal's system for all of us to use. Here is a list of stuff I got in mind so far: Journal

Any recent updates Kirby? This is my most anticipated hack. :)
|
I would also like to know how it is going, any time frame of when it will be done? Hate to be a pest but members are requesting a blog.
|
Will this fix some of the basic privacy errors in the original ? (like comments on private entries not being private, or being able to download private entries via XML/Text). Also does it still have the comma seperated "who can view" system (I removed this, as it had big security holes in it, and no one used it).

@kylek
Well, I opened this Thread as I needed Users to test it and report Bugs. But there are (almost) no tests taking place ... and without Tests there won't be a Release. @Paul M As stated some Posts before, those issues should be fixed - although WCV is still there as it was. You can/should test that. If there are still issues that I am not aware of, please let me know :) |
Some ideas:
When you click the show entry button on the showjournal page. http://kirbydemos.ath.cx/forum/journ...owjournal&j=12 (A link to my journal) Where it says the name of the entry, and you click on it, it brings up a single view of that entry. It would be cool if when you click that you could see the comments displayed underneath it. Maybe place the make a comment box underneath the recent comments. That way someone is forced to read the comments before they post in case someone has already posted that. Perhaps you could have an option for users to show comments on the main journal page underneat their entries. Like this: Entry - Blagh Blagh Comment 1,2,3 .... Entry - Blagh 2 Comment 2, 4, 5, Need some more moods of course, and perhaps instead of a userid for who can view a private entry you could just have where you enter the username. Private seems to work fine. I logged out and was unable to see the post I just made that was private. However I did notice when I was logged out and viewing my profile, I could see in the Journal block of the profile my latest entry, Busy, Busy, even though it was supposed to be private. You could only see the name, you could not access it. Also I noticed when I was logged out and viewing my journal, it did not say any guests were viewing the journal it said, 0 registered users, 0 guests. |
Hey cool hack couple of suggestions;
I didn't see the WYSIWYG editor, instead a normal textarea is used, could you change that? Also, when viewing comments, it would be best if you showed the original blog post as well. Then when clicking on the link view comments, you use a #anchor to display the first comment. Have the add comment below all comments. Thanks! |

If you have Permission to view the Journal but not the last Entry it will show Private. Quote:
Currently, I am not going to add any new Features - just bugfixing to get this stable ASAP. |
Had a quick look.
If I try and view the comments on my own private entry, I get a no permission error. The WCV box still accepts any text (more than one bright spark on our forum put usernames in it, one person put 'anyone'). |
Hmm, I can view Comments on my Private entries.
Yes, the WCV Box still accepts anything - but that should not cause Problems except that it does not work. |

*eek*
I guess I could just see my private Entry cause I am Admin :D Should work now. Should not cause mySQL Errors - but feel trying to create mySQL errors. |
One of the first features after gold if possible should be full editor support + attachments. Lots of users want to share pictures and what not so it's sort of a standard blog feature :)
You could look at how an-net is handling it so that it isn't causing problems when people try to upgrade to an-net's official version. thans much :) |

Btw, at what stage are you now;
Alpha 1: Initial public Test Alpha 2: Fully phrased, compatibility Code removed Alpha 3-Beta 1: Bugfixes, Code optimization, fully XHTML 1.0 compliant Beta 1: By now all Code should be "3.5 native" and following vBulletin Code Standards Beta 2: Datamanager Classes for Journal, Entries, Comments Beta 3: Adding Currently Listening/Watching Beta X-RC X: Bugfixes, Code Optimization 1.0.2 Gold |
Pre-Alpha 1
|
Oh and one more question; I noticed that you intend to change the name to kirblog in the future, does that mean that this will not be a 'straight' port but that you will add enhancements/features not available in an-nets 1.0 or 1.5 journal system?

I tested if I could see others entries, but not my own.
|
I'm hoping to switch to 3.5 soon, but one of the things holding me back is the journal. Several users at my forum use it daily, so while I could perhaps figure out some workaround eventually, having it ported over by a more skilled coder would help immensely :)
|
is it possible to convert a forum category where members are assigned one thread they can post in (and no one else can reply) to this journal system after release?
|
A question for Kirby:
An admin at my site was somewhat able to convert the journal to 3.5, but the thing we both noticed was that while the journal index looked fine, browsing entries wouldn't show the right ones, nor did it show all entries. Perhaps it's something easy which is being overlooked, so if you know what I'm talking about, it'd be appreciated if you know a fix for this (if need be, I can send you the altered journal.php via PM). Thanks in advance :) |
So how do I get to be a tester? I have a thing for finding bugs. Actually registered here: http://kirbydemos.ath.cx/forum/journal.php but I don't have permissions to see the journal page.
|
How is this going? For some reason I'm now getting a no permission error when I try to view the journals after I've registered.
|
I'm really hoping to test this soon, as the other admin at my site decided to wait for Kirby's port and some of my members are getting a bit restless with having no journal. As it stands, I don't mind testing an alpha if it means members can access their journals again. Hopefully, Kirby will be offering this soon (new features or not) ;)
|
Well ... it's lying around here completely packaged since days.
Hmm. |
