Alright, looks like I got the bugged niiped in the butt, I had copied code and not replaced it with the proper varibles when releasing.

Should be all good to go now (uploading in a moment and sending an email)

Other notes for version 0.2
- Fixed small lack of phrase (hard coded english)
- Removed the table from the navbar (the breadcrumb)
- Updated for (not really, just downloaded from) RC1

Wey Hey!!

Im never going to be offline on Teen Forums now!!!

Thanks Zachery, this is the most useful style ever for me!!! :)

Keep up the amazing work! ;)

Zachery 07-30-2005 06:20 PM

My next steps is to start redoing the most common error pages. (like when you don't have enough charaters and submit)

I really wish I had a pda / cellphone to do etsting with though :/

SHANE-D-PAIN 07-30-2005 09:23 PM

I will be happy to test them for you as you progress with this thing.

I have that style set as a redirect from the subdomain: wap.teenageforums.com and it works like a charm for my phone! :)

Good to hear, I haven't had any chance to test it out at all, no way to :(

sniper0 08-01-2005 01:22 AM

Perfect for my PSP website for a style for them

Zachery 08-02-2005 04:40 PM

If anyone wants to buy me one that i can use generally for everyday things then i will thankyou! Thats all! :P

Anyway, back to the style!

I have unlimited free wap access via my phone so i can always test it out! Works fine from what i have tested right now but the redirect page after login could be more basic, maybe just text!

Its coming in the future, my plan is to rewrite everything, just since this is a hobby project ;) donations of PSPs/ PDAs etc would speed me up :)

sub_ubi 08-17-2005 08:20 PM

Someone get this man a PDA!
Nintendo DS's are getting pretty cheap, $100 for a used one on ebay.

FD929 08-18-2005 04:20 PM

Great skin Zach. I'd used others for my treo but this blows them all out of the water. My only complaint is that it is not wide enough for me, but that's an issue I can deal with. Unless of course you have some free time. ;)

Its not set to any preset height - width it should expand normally..

I'll see what I can do.

Zachery, this is great. And to Wayne, you have a point about the long-term - something like this won't matter in 2 years or so when everyone in the world has some sort of EDGE or 3G enabled phone or PDA or BlackBerry-like device. However, in two years, I also see a vast and rapid change in the vB product, as well. The modern mentality is one of instant gratification, so long-term viability or not, this project is good for use now.

And lets not mention the forums such as BlackBerryForums.com, HowardForums.com, or any of the umpteen others that are directed towards mobile users and mobile technologies. Just because a forum for My Little Pony won't have mobile visitors doesn't mean that some other forum wouldn't...

Someone else mentioned that mobile phones are now capable of whatever parsing, but the simple fact of it is - there's still a global bandwidth issue in the mobile market. GPRS's claims of 50kb/s and more is f'n ridiculous... 15-25kb/s is tops, so you try and navigate HAPPILY using that crap. EDGE and EVDO should be rolled out in N. America in the next few weeks/months, so maybe things will change at that point, but I doubt it. There will be atleast 2-3 years for a demand in slim-line, fast-browsing products.

jibious 08-21-2005 04:16 PM

Zachery, you can download a BlackBerry simulator program (I believe they also make these for Palm, etc), if thats all you want to be able to further development.

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...359F4AE7BD7BA1

Get the JDE 4.0.2 version for the latest handheld OS code. You have your choice of running the handheld from ANY BlackBerry handheld available - both the 72xx and 7100 handheld models and screen resolutions. You will need to start up the MDS simulator first, but after that, you can start up one of the handhelds and be surfing on your computer via simulation.

Its a cheap fix to your problem, but probably not the one you wanted... hehe. :-)

Borgs8472 08-23-2005 09:14 PM

Is this compatible with 3.0? :/

albn 08-24-2005 06:10 AM

WOW, this is one of the better ideas I have seen, and from the code so far, it looks to be the makings of XHTML a lot of folks have been asking for.

I will definately be watching this one. Great job!

Looks difficult too... I wish you the best of luck on this one.

This was designed for 3.5 in mind.. not sure how it will work with 3.0

Borgs8472 08-30-2005 11:16 PM

^ ^
should I try install it? I'm scared... :/

Zachery 08-31-2005 02:36 PM

Honestly I wouldn't try :p I'd just upgrade to 3.5

SnitchSeeker 09-01-2005 08:01 AM

Excellent!

Can anybody tell me how to make the site recognise PDA's or mobiles and automatically assign them this style?

kwopper 09-04-2005 12:51 AM

Nice job Zachery. In a future release is there a chance you can add a function so the member can change the skin. I installed on a test board and did not see any way for a member to change their style back to a regular one if they were back on their computer.

Just add /?styleid=1 after your board-url, and in most cases you should be fine. unless ofcourse if you disabled the 1st (default) skin

Very good work. I installed and have been testing with my PDA and mobile device.

Some mods i did to get working a little better:

- Spacer Size (pixels): Set to 0 pixels
(Spacing between the body border and the main content)

- Add 'go to main style' link (at bottom)

- Set users nicks in bold

- check quote font size (is different than message font size)

- pagination links at bottom

- remove <ul ..> "from forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost" template (space saving is a must for using with these devices)

- replace ( &rarr; ) character in forumhome_lastpostby by a simple > or similar (some devices doesn't recognise that $rarr ; thing :)

RCA 09-07-2005 01:04 AM

Some more:

- reduce Add Reply box size

- add forums navbar at bottom

I'll think about adding some sort of markup for usernames, but I'd prefer to avoid it. I'm thinking about a <hr> to seperate the post abit more

Ah.. I didn't think about the bbcodes.. Thats where the plugin side of this will eventually come in. But i will do my best to see what can be done with the templates.

I've changed this to 5, as I believe there should be some spacing

I won't be removing the lists, it helps the flow of the page. I will see about modifying the css to make them not space as far out however.

What would be a good size for the reply box.

I don't think we really need ANOTHER navbar. Thats what the one at the top is for.

Knoxvegan 09-07-2005 09:22 PM

This is also great for those blind and needing the computer to read the forum to them. Well done!

AboutBlackBerry 09-15-2005 05:33 AM

This is very nice, but I only want my WAP users to see this (or use this skin) so how do I do that? Anyone that access' my site via a PC I want them to see my current theme/skin, but for WAP I would like to use your "theme/skin".

Thanks for any help!!

Also will this work on 3.0.8 ??

as said up above you could always add a host wap.yourforum.com then redirect that to yourforum.com/?style=$stylenumber

bi11i 10-06-2005 10:33 PM

I'm trying to edit the footer of this template to include the theme chooser, and after clicking 'Save', I get the following error.
Code:

The following error occurred when attempting to evaluate this template:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or T_NUM_STRING in E:\wwwroot\opiophile.org\includes\adminfunctions_template.php(3519) : eval()'d code on line 2

This is likely caused by a malformed conditional statement. It is highly recommended that you fix this error before continuing, but you may continue as-is if you wish.

Probably needs to go to vBulletin.com, but how can I restore the theme chooser so those that accidentally pick this theme can escape?

FractalizeR 10-10-2005 07:33 AM

You should place a link to usercp at the top of the main forum page. Otherwise, users will not be able to switch back to normal style. Or I am wrong?

BTW, it seem to work ok on VB 3.5 Final.

...or just add the code back into the footer template, like I had. Works great, btw - great theme!

MrMister 10-11-2005 03:54 PM

Bi11i - when you added the code to the footer template, did it work or not? One post says it has a problem, the other post says it's ok.

I'm confused

Mickie D 10-29-2005 08:39 AM

you need to add the allow members to change styles drop down menu to the bottom, and maybe a new post feature when your in the top level of a forum ?

but as said this is an awsome release,

Also does anyone have the code that makes PDA, WAP, etc automaticly use that style i had it before but cant remember where this code was ?

Peter Walker 11-02-2005 07:56 AM

Hi,
I have been testing your Lite style and I like it. A couple of issues I noticed are the following:
1. It is only possible to reply to existing threads, I found no method for starting a new thread.
2. Once someone has started this mode, there is no easy method to return to the normal style. I solved this by adding a link in the footer "Switch off PDA mode"

I also set the Spacer Size (pixels) to 1. 0 is too small and even 5 is too large when displayed on a PDA.

Actaully I find that quite a negative opinion from a member of one of the most dynamic web applications around, things move forward, well generally. Most computers and software has done since they began, so PDA's are not, they are just going to stand still ?

I dont have a use for this style yet but If i could talk my ma round to paying a bit of $$ out for her entertainment and arts local club site instead of being comp ignorant and wanting to spend as little as possible this is likley the style she would want.
;)

Peter Walker 11-08-2005 03:30 AM

I have just upgraded my forum to 3.5.1 and I am now being asked to update a number of templates related to this style.

Is there anything which actually needs to be updated, or can I just save them in the new format and forget about it?

By the way, I think this style is great and works well with my PDA.

hugh_ 11-08-2005 08:14 AM

Can someone please post a demo link? My users have been waiting for a lite style since 3.5.0 was released... :)
